It's beautiful, as always. I like the lid very much. The simple hole for a finger is a nice departure from the elaborate finials these things usually get equipped with. It's simple, elegant and utilitarian.
Watching this is calming me evertime down when you think about al the bad things in the world it’s just frustrating Wish you all luck and hope for your whole life you to Andy Phillip
You and me both King. It sure as heck beats the socks of the misery media. I've given up on them. It's such a pleasure to watch a master at work and marvel at the finished result. This is so beautiful and what I would consider to be an heirloom piece.
This turned into magic before my eyes. The whole time I was trying to guess what it was. But most, I think I fell in love with all the different wood grains and colors. thank you so much for sharing. :-)
Beautiful workmanship on this bowl creation! The skill and patience with all the little wood pieces astounds me. I also appreciate what little is wasted.
You have so much talent, patience, and skill, to create so many amazing pieces of ART! I truly envy your craftsmanship and your woodshop. WOW!!! ...Just WOW!!!
Nowadays, 99% of men's acts, words, thoughts, deeds, are ugly, full of hate, full of greed, full selfishness, out of touch. You, Andy, are one of the 1% that make all people below, including myself, happy and full of hope, that, out there, there are still people that loves beauty, simplicity. Thank you for sharing. Your videos are relaxing. Really a pleasure to watch. Always.
I like all the differant woods put together. The shape is cool. I like that you didn't put a finial on top. They are nice, but sometimes they are to much. All together it's really beautiful.
I have never really been a fan of segmented work as very few turners can pull it off without it looking like bits of wood just glued together, then lose the plot when they turn something. Here not only was the workmanship supremely well executed, the final form looks stunning.
I'm just popping in to say that I'm a brand new woodturner (aka fancy firewood creator) because of this channel. I've watched all of the others and without a doubt, Andy is the best all-around turner on TH-cam. Period. Full stop.
There he is! I sure enjoy ur beautiful and unique projects. I too collect exotic woods like Purple Heart walnut, holly, ebony, zebra, and many more. Thank you for ur demonstration...be safe and stay healthy...
john taylor There's usually no guards on a table saw, a few are made to just minimize kickback, but there's never gonna be something that'll stop your hand or finger from touching the blade. That's the job of a saw stop, a small mechanism that is added and if ever used, will be replaced. You'll get as far as a scratch before the saw stop detects it and catches the blade. There are splitters attachments for table saws as well, it's mainly for longer stocks of wood to prevent kickback, and would not be used here. Number one rule is to never have your hand on the wood directly in line with the blade. The hand thing is called a push stick. When using long stocks of wood you want to hold down the centre of the board, and push in from left side of the board, once your hand gets too close to the "Danger zone" you would use a push stick to push it the rest of the way. There's waaaay more to it than that, but explaining everything would take too long. I would know, I took a year long course in Millwork and Carpentry. As well as 3 years of shop classes in high school. Though it's been 2 years since and I've moved on to doing art. P.S. I'm not attacking you for your comment, I'm just dropping some info so you don't worry about people losing fingers or hands...well..unless people aren't following safety protocols and are deliberately trying to lose a finger or hand. :T
NoxWyvern table saw injuries are still *extremely* common in North America. Most are from people who would tell you they never ignore safety protocols.
Jasper Janssen yea true, when I was taking Millwork and carpentry classes. Most injuries though that I have heard and seen were from kickbacks. A thin excess/scrap that was cut off from a piece I was working on shot back at me, I got a tiny stab from that. A teacher got nailed in the head because the blade was changed incorrectly and he was busy teaching and talking to the students that he wasn't paying attention. The worst injury I've heard from was a friend of a friend got his thumb cut on a band saw, those bandsaws are wicked dangerous, I was cutting once, and I barely turned the piece I was cutting, I heard a click sound, and BAM! The blade snaps! I ducked and rolled, avoiding the blade whipping out at me. Another rule of thumb we learned was just because there's safety rules and procedures, doesn't mean accidents don't happen..
Stunning is the least you can call this artwork🙌🏼 you are just feeding my obsession to everything wood related constantly. Thank you for sharing your art with us😊
Let just take moment to say Thank you to Andy because not only is he a great artist but he takes the time to go through and love everyone's comment. Truly amazing, I've always liked wood working.
My channel is primarily a metal channel, so forgive this question if its well known. I know a wood lathe uses that T bar for the tool support, but does anyone actually offer attachments that cut internal and external round features? For bowls, cups, candlesticks etc?
@@mcmoosen4877 Basically Joe asked weather or not there are things he could attach to the spinning machine that would help him carve bowl/cup sorts of shapes more easily. Andy said yes but he doesn't use those things. He makes the bowls and cups without the help of any extra machine parts.

It’s a beautiful piece, I thought you were going to do a wooden globe drinks thingy and then I looked again at the size, the colours do look amazing on it, well done. Take cars and stay safe.
Beautiful box/ bowl/ sphere! it can make a wonderful trinket gift for anyone! Loved that you used purple heart...my favourite kind of wood! Challenge: can you create something (for your special someone) out of purple heart and the red heart one? I would love to see the result! Be creative!
This is absolutely incredible work! I don’t own a lathe or any wood working tools but I’ve started to save up to build a workshop and buy power tools and a lathe. Anyway love your videos this was such a creative Idea and I look forward to seeing what other tricks you have up your sleeve!
I thought you had made a mistake there Andy and missed a thin black veneer in between blocks. Then when finished it was joint between lid and bowl I should have known better than that. I expected a ball , lovely piece of work that is
My oh my you have really out done yourself, this is a magnificent and spectacular and stunningly beautiful piece. Every time I watch a person make something awesome I am in total awe of all the different kinds of wood and the colors of the wood, that there is. This piece is a fantastic proof of that. Thank you Andy it is awesome.
Andy, What was the veneer that was placed between each ring segment? What adhesive are you using? I am asking because many tropical woods contain oil and require wiping with acetone.Truly a beautiful piece. Thanks, Joe
Wow, so beautiful - all those wonderful colours. The purple heart is definitely my favorite wood in there. It almost looks like a basket for snakes and they can come out of the hole in the lid when you play your flute, hehe. Great piece of art.
Andy Philip has precision cut, I was watching other wood turning videos, and I was missing Andy so much, I had to come back!

Is no one going to talk about his little hand thing? Brilliant. The bowl is awesome too
I wonder if this clever man could make a real finger if/when he cuts his own off?? Why no guard???
