I left the tutorial village of Skalitz only after I was level 3-5. I picked _all_ the herbs in the entire town, increasing many of my stats in the process. Picking a lot of Nettles, for example, gave me a vitality bonus, because Nettles are "poisonous". I also improved Strength and leg-strength by picking the herbs. I would sell off as much as I could, and then just drop all the excess, as you don't have a horse yet and potential buyer's are limited. I improved my unarmed combat (as well as stats) by punching all the cows ( knocking them out/killing them, but they will eventually return, although be careful you're not seen doing this by wandering villagers. It's not as easy doing this with sheep, as they run away too fast, so more time is spent herding than punching. I practiced stealth, knocking out wandering villagers (Deutch has good gear to sell later), picking up a bit of gear to wear and (mostly) sell, although as some was marked stolen I kept it to sell later. I did most of this _before_ collecting the beer for the trip home, as that part is timed, and will eventually lead to the cut scene of the village attack. The point is, do whatever you can, before leaving Skalitz. Oh, and as I played on console, "saving" by sleeping/using a Savior Schnapps wasn't possible/viable, I would often do so by "save and exit to menu"; a little tedious, but better than losing a lot of progress by doing a forced reset. In fact, while playing the game I have almost never used a Savior Schnapps, but just exit save...hundreds, and I mean hundreds of times. Anyway, that's what I can remember of my early gameplay, and maybe it will help new players get a jumpstart on the game.
I may be a little late but if you put the stuff you were stealing from the folks in skalitz in the chest in your home they will stay there until you return later on when you burry your parrents. Just take every item out of the chest BEFORE you dig the grave. After you wake up in rattay you can find all your items in the chest next to your bed and they are ready to be sold. (Just make sure that you save before taking everything out of your chest in skalitz because there is a bug where some stuff might vanish when you go to rattay)
I learned the hard way that "Save & Exit" is not a true save. If you reload after, say, a mistake, the game doesn't take you back to your last Exit Save. It takes you to your last Sleep or Schnapps Save. Save & Exit only serves for returning after an exit.

Late tip, at level 0 alchemy, number of bellow pulls does matter when considering boiling as you have mentioned in this video, but at high enough alchemy skill (not with perk) the bellow equates to one pull per one turn (boiling/not)

When I first started alchemy, I would prep my stuff before I did the whole boiling and base process. get things ground up and put it the bowl ready to go, then proceed through the steps. As I got the feel for it better I would try to consolidate my time and make things closer together.
I get that your way is the most efficient. I guess I'm trying to add that if you find these instructions to be a little complicated, just do this ya know?
@@Halcylion While lethal, it takes about minute or so to fully take effect. In such time, your opponent can and most likely will chop you into bits. Dollmaker is instant, will slow them down considerably, and even weaken them. Give you time to move away, and fire more arrows.
Just fire an arrow and back up a good distance. The target will run to where you had first fired, and if you're back far enough, and eventually your stealth improves (and your gear visual/conspicuousness/noise is low enough) they won't detect you, so "rinse and repeat". To kite targets, just fire an arrow near them, if your aim isn't quite great yet, to draw them out from groups. And avoid shooting into thick groups of enemies, to avoid drawing out too many.
Can you give a tutorial on combat oriented stealth? Like taking on groups of enemies found in camps. Or just group combat in general. Specifically that one mission from the main story where you storm a camp with a small army guarding it?
I'm still kinda new to the game but when i find a bandit camp I'll wait until night when most of them are asleep and their weapons and armor are in the camp chest. Stealth kill the sentries if i can. Pickpocket the sleeping guys. If they wake up, they'll probably run away. Let em run, hide, and they'll come back and go back to sleep. Repeat this process as long as you want until it's time to kill them
I personally dislike VR, but for those that enjoy it, it would no doubt be amazing. Even better if you book a trip to Rataje nad Sazavou afterwards and see the real life location that the game takes place in.
For newer players: put removable marker ( or a tiny piece of wet paper if you want ) on your screen where the dot From the game HUD is. Will make archery super easy.
something I've learned personally is, you've only need to follow the potion script for the first time. then after that most of the potion doesn't need more than 3 bellows, also no need to wait for cool down. just wait till boiling action is done and drop your ingredients. btw the marigold potion doesn't even need boiling just put water and dump the herbs and collect it in vial.
I put a little dot with a whiteboard marker on my screen, where the yellow UI dot is, which makes aiming the bow MUCH easier. Over time I find I don't need it, but it's still very useful until you get a feel for shooting arrows.
another tip if you want a little cheat. Press the ` key and type wh_pl_showfirecursor 1 and enter. make sure you typed it in before you take out your bow. I read that the dev got it in but did not turned it on maybe for some 'realism'.
Alchemy is a lot simpler than you described it. Cook, simmer, boil etc are all the same. Just pull once on the bellows to heat for one turn. When cool pull once again for second turn etc as required. No need to use the pointless hour glass.
Are you sure alchemy is as easy as you described it BEFORE obtaining that perk which allows you to make mistakes when brewing potions? (it's called "Trial and Error" I believe) Because without that perk, if I brew potions without following the exact steps, I either fail the brewing process entirely or I make fewer potions than I would if I followed the instructions outlined in the recipe. But of course, this all becomes irrelevant once you obtain the Routine perk which allows you to autobrew 3 potions at once.
@@Halcylion Yes, because I chose not to have that perk as it seemed pointless. If you follow the recipe you get the potion and after that you can autobrew.
I don't know if I explained it in this video, but the 5th one was supposed to be about trading and making money... which I accidentally talked about in the thief guide, because I got carried away. But perhaps I will find enough subjects to fill a 5th video, so I may get around to making it in the near future.
Archery skill only increases by shooting animate objects--animals & people. Shooting targets doesn't help, though still useful for helping you get the hang of it.
I am curious, can you bulk make potions, for example, you want to make the savour potion twice, could you not double the recipe to the letter and get double the results?
There's the "Routine" perk in the alchemy skill, which allows you to instantly make a potion you've already brewed before. Routine II allows you to instantly brew 3 potions at once from the same ingredients.
Hey Hal. Esti roman? abia acum am vazut acest ghid. apreciez foarte mult toate proiectele tale, mai ales in M&B. merci mult pentru tot efortul si tine-o tot asa :)
Pro-tip place tiny tape or dry erase marker on to where the aiming dot before you pull the bow and at 4:40 aim right in-between V on the shooting mat to get center hits.
Both. The higher Henry's skill level, the easier it is to aim the bow, but it's possible shoot stuff down with your skill alone even if Henry is a total dummy.
if you can pull off perfect shots, you could turn a 1v5 bandit fight into a 1v4 even 1v3 before the fight even begin, i took on three heavily armored foes and headshot one of them and fought off the other two, made fuck ton of money selling their stuff
i literally fail every try i do. i dont know what im doing wrong?! i think its the cooking timings... but i followed the guide.distill when still fire?
just tell me where to find these sneaky rabbits, i can find them only in the forest from the quest with Hans. I can't find rabbits anywhere else when I'm hunting.
To get the wine prize for Lady Stephanie, I bought a bow and high-quality arrows and practiced a lot. In the competition I concentrated on being consistent from shot to shot and ignored what the other archers were doing. I was surprised when I won.
i find it easyer to hit things as they move i cant hit shit when i'm moving tho and its 50/50 if me and what ever i'm aiming at is not moving first thing i did on hardcore was my alchemy saves and poison helps alot haha
aha, "musetel". am mai vazut niste video-uri de-ale tale dar nu aveam idee ca esti de-al nostru. felicitari pentru canal, tin-o tot asa, ia si un subscribe de la mine.
Alchemy is the best skill. It’s profitable, boosts other skills, and can be applied at the very beginning of any play through. The Lazarus potion is the most expensive so I’m always filling my pockets with comfrey. Neuhof is a great place to find it but you can also find woodland gardens or walk along rivers. Even the river outside Rattay will give up comfrey if you follow it west. Valerian is found almost anywhere so I’m not worried about looking for it.
On Hardcore, alchemy is indispensable... not so much for selling potions, because you get paid pennies on the dollar for everything you sell, but the potions you make can save your butt countless times, as well as speed up your character development.
Because the marginal profits they would make (from those who don't understand the available languages) can barely cover the cost of hiring translators and voice actors for every quest in the game. In Romania for example, only the poor and uneducated need things dubbed to them in romanian, because the rest of us speak at least one other language: english, french, german or russian. A romanian dub would only benefit that small percentage of people who aren't capable of paying for the game anyway, so why spend time, money and effort to translate your game for them? The only way I see this game translated is with a mod that lets you change the subtitles, and a community that volunteers to translate the game in their language, for free. The voice would still be english, but the subtitles can be in whichever language the community bothered to translate to. Even this would be a massive endeavor, since this game has thousands of lines of dialogue. It would take about the same effort as translating 10 seasons of some TV show... In a nutshell: it's not worth it.
@@Halcylion subbed in Romanian would be a good idea. I think the Gov should have grants for that kinda think. I don't get why warhorse didnt have a Czech version internally that they could have released.
No need to ever use a Savior Schnapps, if you don't want to. I assume you're playing on console, where we've no access to mods like they have on pc, so just "save and exit to menu". A little tedious, but you can do this kind of save forever and it costs nothing but a little bit of time to "continue". If something doesn't go your way then you'll need to reset the game, but "save and exit to menu", followed by "continue" has been my method from day one. Eventually you don't need to do this as often, when your skills improve.
So 2 turns is just getting to boiling.? 3 pulls would be 1 turn, 4=2 turns wouldn’t 5 pulls = 3 turns? how do you get 6 pulls for 3 turns? I haven’t tried alchemy yet it’s so confusing..
first pull begins the warm up, second confirms it. Third should begin boiling, 4th confirms boiling. After that, pull 5 adds another full turn of boiling, and the 6th adds another, for a total of 3 turns.
@@Halcylion maybe it has been changed, but for me, it works by one pull = 1 turn off either boiling or cooking, and I get all bonus brews based on my level
@@damienw4958 there are quite a few things that have changed since I published my tutorials for this game. I wouldn't be surprised if alchemy changed a bit too.
Halcylion no, hes correct and it didnt change, ever. Has been like this since release and i remember it well from my 1st playthrough, because of that surprise in merhojed, that had my henry turn into an absolute fucking hardcore nerd for 3 straight days to get things right. Smoked some herbs and got my medical degree😏 Generally cook for 1 hourglass=1pull. Cooling starts as soon the fire is out, the simmering sound has ceased and only glowing ember remains. Both methods work in the end, so it doesnt matter
Kill the sheep behind the area where sir Bernard is. Nobody can see you , they respawn every often, and you improve your skill (level 5 is when you no longer flay your arm and can hold the bow properly allowing for far more accuracy.)
wow, I did not know you can que up boiling turns. go figure. 150 hours and I never knew. I want to return the favor: you can brew without beeing able to read. you can even autobrew without going to read. I just did a no reading playthrough. Although you can read recipies without beeing able to read, the book will be gibberish. but remembering the recipie (or googling it) will allow you to brew it and you can even let the game write it into your book as well.
I'm trying the Trial-and-Error achievement, so no reading for me for a good while, but still went to the Alchemist, looked at the book, first easy recipe for schnapps, and I could actually read the recipe, the letters are just jumbled, but you can figure it out xD I found it fun. I'm not sure about the harder recipes.
the 5th one was supposed to be a money guide, but I kinda explained all about money in the 2nd episode. 5th one is gonna have some random tips and tricks... when I actually have time for a bit of KCD again.
wrong you do NOT need to read the rezept to brew the potion. if you know what you need and to do (or just experiment) you can brew the potion and will unlock the rezept that way. or you can just look on the internet if you lazy. also the sandclock is usless. if it says cook for 2 turns u just need to heat 2x and you done. if you get a higher alchemie skill or pick the perk thats allows you to get more fails you can exploit this to skip some steps in the brewing process like heating.
Um... everything you say is true. It's also what I say at various points throughout this very same video. I have rewatched it and I'll give you the exact timestamps where I say the things you mentioned. First things first: Do not misinterpret what I'm about to say as anger or anything like that. I'm trying to make things absolutely clear. With that said, I do not disagree with anything you've said, I'm merely stating that I've said the exact same things throughout this video. English may not be your first language, and if you have some trouble understanding some of the things I've said, you might have missed some of the points I've made. Hell, english is not my first language either, and because I mispronounce some things, it may be even more difficult to understand me at times. All right, your first point: you do NOT need the recipe for the potion. But a new player has a choice: either he can do the immersive thing and obtain a recipe, read it and apply the instructions to brew his potion; OR alt-tab from the game and read a lousy wiki. Another option would be to remember how to brew a potion, but how can he remember if he never read the instruction or the wiki? Now, initially I did say you NEED the recipe, and I was partially wrong. You still need it to automatically place all the ingredients for that particular potion; And then, I had to explain the instructions, in case people want to read those instead of the wiki. Where do I say that? 16:33 I mistakenly say that you need to read the recipe and without it you fail. As I say that, I overlay the text INCORRECT over it, and immediately after, at 16:40 I correct myself and say that recipe is not an absolute requirement. It's still preferred you have it though. 16:59 - I confirm that you DO NOT need the recipe and can brew any potion even on a new character, as long as you follow the precise instructions. 17:10 - I say it again, loud and clear. I like repeating stuff I say, to make things crystal clear for people who might not understand it the first 2 times I've said it. Second point of yours: Hourglass being useless. That's what I said while explaining the brewing process 13:13 , pay attention to the words: "Instructions tell you to boil it for 3 turns. 1: you CAN measure it with the hourglass (CAN means it's entirely optional, and it can help you) OR you can follow my guidance, but for that I will explain the 3 stages of cooking" Then I go at length telling you how many times you have to pull the lever to reach the turns you need. Then, at 14:15 , I say you CAN verify with the hourglass (again, "can" means it's optional). As for the third thing you've said, I don't think I've mentioned that one. I believe, around the 24:00 minute mark, I said: " I can talk about the perks in game but you can read them by yourself, because I don't want to make the video longer than necessary" . With this essay written, I'd like to thank you for the feedback though.
@@jaxmorris6865 Logically, ''trying'' implies an inability to succeed, because when something is achieved, you no longer categorize that as ''trying'', but as ''doing''. Following the same logic, if you could, you'd have phrased your sentence as ''During the archery contest, I was aiming at Sir Hans and put an arrow in his arrogant face.'', or something like that. But it's a good you couldn't, (or didn't) since Hans becomes Henry's best bro.

first vid. i watch and ....."musetel" :))))....noh salut domnule halcylion....buna treaba...tine-o tot asa :)
Multumesc pt. comment!
the garden by the executioners house in Rattay also has mint, herb paris, wormwood
ma bucur sa vad un tutorial facut de un roman la un joc de calitate
For newer players: put removable marker ( or a tiny piece of wet paper if you want ) on your screen where the dot From the game HUD is. Will make archery super easy.
I used black thread, to create a large crosshair on my tv. A little annoying when watching regular programming, but much easier with in-game archery.
or you just type wh_pl_showfirecursor 1 in the console on PC
something I've learned personally is, you've only need to follow the potion script for the first time. then after that most of the potion doesn't need more than 3 bellows, also no need to wait for cool down. just wait till boiling action is done and drop your ingredients. btw the marigold potion doesn't even need boiling just put water and dump the herbs and collect it in vial.
i think you need the perk that allows you to mess up one step during the cooking
I put a little dot with a whiteboard marker on my screen, where the yellow UI dot is, which makes aiming the bow MUCH easier. Over time I find I don't need it, but it's still very useful until you get a feel for shooting arrows.
I made a crosshair with black thread, going from edge to edge of my tv.
another tip if you want a little cheat. Press the ` key and type wh_pl_showfirecursor 1 and enter. make sure you typed it in before you take out your bow. I read that the dev got it in but did not turned it on maybe for some 'realism'.
Theres mint in front of pesheks house, rattay mill. Just by the bench where theresa often sits on during the day.
(it's called "Trial and Error" I believe)
Because without that perk, if I brew potions without following the exact steps, I either fail the brewing process entirely or I make fewer potions than I would if I followed the instructions outlined in the recipe.
But of course, this all becomes irrelevant once you obtain the Routine perk which allows you to autobrew 3 potions at once.
@@Halcylion Yes, because I chose not to have that perk as it seemed pointless. If you follow the recipe you get the potion and after that you can autobrew.
Are you still planning to make that 5th video? I'd really love to watch it!
I don't know if I explained it in this video, but the 5th one was supposed to be about trading and making money... which I accidentally talked about in the thief guide, because I got carried away. But perhaps I will find enough subjects to fill a 5th video, so I may get around to making it in the near future.
@@Halcylion You did indeed mention it. But you also said that you would make a new video about character classes and more tips and tricks!
Archery skill only increases by shooting animate objects--animals & people. Shooting targets doesn't help, though still useful for helping you get the hang of it.
Shooting targets does increase your skill, but only in archery contests and it's considerably slower than shooting animals or people.
It does increase outside of contests. But only 1XP per shoot or even a bit less, while in contest you again more. The most XP are still Cumans.
Musetel? are you from Romania?
I am curious, can you bulk make potions, for example, you want to make the savour potion twice, could you not double the recipe to the letter and get double the results?
There's the "Routine" perk in the alchemy skill, which allows you to instantly make a potion you've already brewed before. Routine II allows you to instantly brew 3 potions at once from the same ingredients.
Really useful guide! Thanks!
Hey Hal. Esti roman? abia acum am vazut acest ghid. apreciez foarte mult toate proiectele tale, mai ales in M&B. merci mult pentru tot efortul si tine-o tot asa :)
Multumesc pentru comentariu! :)
Such a good video!! Thank you!
I am not even playing the game, but still enjoyed the playlist. I might start playingsince i is on my pile of shame
Pro-tip place tiny tape or dry erase marker on to where the aiming dot before you pull the bow and at 4:40 aim right in-between V on the shooting mat to get center hits.
Omg "mușețel"! Are you romanian? Wooo me too! Just found out that the best KCD guides are made by a romanian!
Nice transition bro.
I believe ten pulls of the bellows equates to three turns.
20:00 Pulls 5 times: "4 pulls in total!"
Nice. Oh btw I didn t know u were Romanian. Niceeeee accent!!!
You also dont NEED to be able to read to use alchemy. If you google the recipe, remember it or can decypher the gibberish which isnt that hard.
is the archery skill number based or skill based?
Both. The higher Henry's skill level, the easier it is to aim the bow, but it's possible shoot stuff down with your skill alone even if Henry is a total dummy.
Do you have a turorial for the best perks for hardcore mode?
Not at the moment.
@@Halcylion ok i really enjoy your hardcore coverage of KC:D. Thanks for your time and tips. Love to see more.
Cheers
just the guide i need now
Great job. Truly.
if you can pull off perfect shots, you could turn a 1v5 bandit fight into a 1v4 even 1v3 before the fight even begin, i took on three heavily armored foes and headshot one of them and fought off the other two, made fuck ton of money selling their stuff
So is that 4 pulls for 1 turn of boiling? I saw you do 3 pulls for the last bit of boiling before, so just look for bubbles maybe??
4 pulls for the first turn, 5 for the second, 6 for the third.
@@Halcylion yeah that does work thank you
Good content, good work
Took me hours of practice to really learn how to use the bow in a decent manner
i literally fail every try i do. i dont know what im doing wrong?! i think its the cooking timings... but i followed the guide.distill when still fire?
20:09 I think it was 5 pulls
I know you can better kill guards or something on the paths between Rattray and neuhof
Halcylion Are you Romanian?
Da.
just tell me where to find these sneaky rabbits, i can find them only in the forest from the quest with Hans. I can't find rabbits anywhere else when I'm hunting.
Without realizing, you answered your own question when you called them ''sneaky''. They're found in every forest, but they are very difficult to see.
If the archery range competition don't fully aim the bow.. Let the bow curve parabolicly
"Muşețel". I understood that world.
What language is that?
Not sure if shooting targets increases skill but I know winning archery competitions does increase your skill.
Nice transition 9:29
So this guide is more or less a "How to be a Ranger/Forester"
Yep, that's pretty much it.
eii Romania ! salut! musetel ❤ best tea / ceai 😂
Chiar acum beau o cana de ceai de mușețel. :)
Why don't they make it in more languages?
Just learning about alchemy, then a wild muşețel appears, apoi si cana cu centenarul :)) bravos, ai subscribe si de la mine!
Just spent 2 hours grinding alchemy and then died in fast travel..... I had 100 savior schnapps 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Eventually you don't need to do this as often, when your skills improve.
yeah, the guide ends for me, when you said "shoot those rabbits", cause its fck impossible XD
Sneak super close, then shoot them worked for me.
I like this guy
Or even better: Drink a bowman's brew to instantly gain those 5 levels in archery. :)
@@Halcylion the video was great, along with the whole series!
@@fancypants9558 Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Arrow useless against heavy armor? Damn that is good realism. But minus point for armor piercing arrows.
I remember getting the ability to salt the meat I believe I turned it into jerky
You are awesome!!!!!!!!
Merci, monsieur!
wow, I did not know you can que up boiling turns.
Thank you for returning the favor. However, I already knew all that. :)
I've stated that at 16:40
I'm trying the Trial-and-Error achievement, so no reading for me for a good while, but still went to the Alchemist, looked at the book, first easy recipe for schnapps, and I could actually read the recipe, the letters are just jumbled, but you can figure it out xD I found it fun. I'm not sure about the harder recipes.
i still cant believe the 5th one hasn't come out yet =(
the 5th one was supposed to be a money guide, but I kinda explained all about money in the 2nd episode.
5th one is gonna have some random tips and tricks... when I actually have time for a bit of KCD again.
One more thing apparently bundle alchemy and brewing gave more potions and xp than autobrewing ( 4 potions and 40 xp).
Jokes on The Devs. I s*ck at Combat so I use my Hungarian blood to best even 6-7 people at the same fight with the power of Horse Archery.
Foaie verde musetel
Mushetzel of doom
11:48 Romania
at the end was 5 pulls
I don’t think it takes this long anymore
wrong you do NOT need to read the rezept to brew the potion. if you know what you need and to do (or just experiment) you can brew the potion and will unlock the rezept that way. or you can just look on the internet if you lazy. also the sandclock is usless. if it says cook for 2 turns u just need to heat 2x and you done. if you get a higher alchemie skill or pick the perk thats allows you to get more fails you can exploit this to skip some steps in the brewing process like heating.
Um... everything you say is true.
With this essay written, I'd like to thank you for the feedback though.
musetel? esti roman? 😂
Da. :)
11:48 nu ma asteptam la asta, tovarase
Recipes are easy. If you want a brain tickler you can do it without learning how to read.
Herb collection is great for making money. Nice video but you're wrong on this.
Ok.. I kept watching and you contradicted yourself by saying it was worthwhile.
During the archery lesson i was trying to shoot hans
Good thing you couldn't.
Halcylion who says i couldn’t
@@jaxmorris6865 Logically, ''trying'' implies an inability to succeed, because when something is achieved, you no longer categorize that as ''trying'', but as ''doing''.
Following the same logic, if you could, you'd have phrased your sentence as ''During the archery contest, I was aiming at Sir Hans and put an arrow in his arrogant face.'', or something like that.
But it's a good you couldn't, (or didn't) since Hans becomes Henry's best bro.
Halcylion why are you an ass hole
Musetel :)))
