    I just started my subscription to ME Time Perfectly Pieced which came with two clear blue tiles. I had nooooo idea what they were for, so I searched TH-cam and watched the entire series by Kimberbell and I got it, but then I found your video and honestly, in one video you made it all wayyyy more understandable, plus I really like how you showed the USB and how to pull up the design files. I am new to machine embroidery and actually bought my machine because I wanted to be able to do my own quilting but wasn't sure how to do it. This system is genius. Thank you so much.I'm saving your video for continued watching.

    Yes Becky thank you for such good clear step-by-step video instructions. I’ve been debating whether I needed to spend more money or not and get these clear blue tiles. I watched another gal (I won’t say her name) and I was still clueless on exactly how they benefited me until I watched your video. You always do such a great job with your tutorial videos then most others!!

    Thanks Becky. I actually saw this in my quilt shop after doing an embrilliance course so happy with that. So i bought home this tile set only to find i couldnt open and copy the files to a usb or open in my embroidery machine. After so much mucking around i opened it up in embrillance. Orignally the 8x8 tile was too big for my hoop but with embrilliance and my new found knowledge i was able to decease the size of the design just that little bit. I have since completed 1 block perfectly.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if a design is too large for the largest hoop of the machine, the machine won't be able to "see" the design. I wouldn't decrease the design any more than about .5" overall or you run the risk of distortion. You should be able to use the smaller designs with no problems.

    Thanks for the info on how to get the USB files showing on my machine. Couldn't figure it out until I saw your video. I assumed the USB included in the kit worked on all machines, but obviously depends on memory and age of machine. Wish Kimberbell explained this in their User Guide as it would have saved me time, but I guess I wouldn't have found your channel, which I like!

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if the USB drive that comes with the Tiles is too advanced (has too large of a memory) for your older embroidery machine, you can always transfer the files to the computer, and then copy them to an older USB the machine can use. I love work-arounds!

    • @PowerToolsWithThread

    This is fantastic and it’s always great to have another tool in our embroidery sheds! Only if this could integrate with DBJJ (I know, I know) end-to-end designs! I love those by the way, but it is frustrating to try to fit it all on a project because each of their design sizes is a different scale. Also love your technique of holding the project and fitting into the hoop! Would this work with a magnetic hoop?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, you could use a magnetic hoop. As you know, the DBJJ method is an end-2-end quilting which is designed to mimic a pantograph as if the project was on a longarm. Scale isn't an issue there because you don't have to "fit" the e2e design within the boundaries of any given spot - it's supposed to start a little off the edge and finish a little off the edge. But you're right, it's always great to have options!

  • @renemcfarland6197
    @renemcfarland6197 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Becky, I hope you will see my post. I am confused how you finished putting the pillow together. Once you have completed the quilting, how did you insert the pillow form? Did you just use basic fabric for the back of the pillow, since the quilting won't show once you add the pillow form and another sandwich plus the zipper. Is that right?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pillow is fully lined so essentially it's two quilt sandwiches sewn together on 3 sides with a zipper. I serged the edges of the case for a clean inside finish. This video wasn't really about putting the pillow together, but instead to show how to use the CBTs. :) Sorry about that!

  • @pattyw7952
    @pattyw7952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you use another designer's edge to edge designs with these tiles?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so but you wouldn't get that blended look from the designs in the CBTs. These designs are digitized so that where they meet, one loop goes very close to the edge of the hoop and on the join it's a bit farther away in the same spot to resemble an allover pattern.

  • @NightingaleNews

  • @liztaylor7065
    @liztaylor7065 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks so much, Becky - that is really one of the easiest to follow step by step on the CBT. I do have one question- do you advise drawing up the thread on first stitch and burying it in the quilt in order to stabilize the quilting?? If not, how do we ensure it doesn't loosen during laundering it? Thanks again - Really!! Im now one a Subscriber of Power Tools with Thread

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When an embroidery stitch begins and ends, it takes 3 tiny slow stitches that are a lock stitch before it begins to create the pattern and before the tail trim at the end. If you pull the bobbin thread up at the beginning to trim it off, there is still a knot buried already at the beginning. At the end, I just leave the tiny knot on the back and trim the tails. Or, if your machine has the ability to cancel the trim "scissor" stitch at the end, you can pull the hoop out of the machine at the end of each stitch sequence to create long tail threads, and then pull them up to the top with a hand needle to bury them. Hope that helps! Thanks for subbing!

    Where are you going to place this box in your sewing room? Do you have a certain shelf to put them on? Along with the orange rulers?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The CBT box is on my shelf with my other pattern books (same size and just below my other Kimberbell CDs) and the pillow is in the motorhome on the couch! The Orange Rulers are kept in a nylon zipper bag under my cutting table right now since I'm using them so frequently. But normally they will be stored near my other ruler racks.

  • @CherryBlossomHill
    @CherryBlossomHill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is a really nice system, thank you for the great demo. Do you happen to know what the largest size tile that can be used within the stitching field for a 5x7 hoop ( my largest hoop has a stitching field of 5.5”x8”). Also, have you thought of quilting the entire background first and apply the appliqué after? (Not sure if you could see your appliqué placement sheet from a light box through the batting.] Will you stitch your appliqué pieces down as the last step or was that done before you began the quilting? It looks like fusible/raw edge appliqué but I couldn’t be sure from the video.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't use any applique on this project. It's a panel from Lori Holt that looks like applique. The manual has a full list of the tiles that will fit in standard hoops (I think). It depends on whether you're using the Clear Blue Tiles method or the other set that includes additional space for placing batting down first and then has a fabric placement/tack down lines like the background quilting in Candy Corn Quilt Shoppe. Both sets of tiles come in the box.

    I'm a newbie to Kimberbell products. Would you explain the difference between their 'sewing' version vs the embroidery versions?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the beginning of their business, KB offered Sewing Versions that didn't require an embroidery machine to complete the project. Then they started the machine embroidery projects and they would offer both pattern books but the embroidery version talks about when to change threads and describes what type of stabilizer to use in addition to any other info needed to complete the embroidery designs. That info isn't included in the Sewing version of the pattern books. This KB Cuties Table Toppers has everything for sewing and notes in it when to do the embroidery portions.

    Do you use the tiles the same way if you are using DBJJ E2E? They usually have a "tail" that you need to line up to. How would you line them up? My brain is a little thick today. :) Thanks!

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! They two are not interchangeable. DBJJ is e2e quilting to match the tails like you said. CBTs are complete full designs that are nested so close together, they look like one continuous design.

      That's a completely personal choice. If you decide to, then I'd select a thread color that won't take away from the applique.

    I got CBT +expansion set for Christmas. I have 6 quilts I hope to use them on. My niece’s grandma hand embroidered squares for 6 quilts but passed b4 she put together so my niece asked if I could finish & she knows I can’t do by hand. My concern isn’t the plain white squares but the embroidered squares - not sure how quilting those squares will effect those squares. Any suggestions?

    hello I'm Cécile from France and I can find how to order or pre order those tiles.I've tried with and without your link it doesn't work. I don't find the price neither. Would you please tell me how to do. It seem so easy to "play" with those tiles and I really want it.😂😂😂😂😂Thank you.

    Can I useJuJu's edge to edge patterns with these tiles?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so. These tiles are designed so the stitches are all inclusive to one design - like a large loop or a loop that has a finish on the inside that kind of hides itself. Juju's designs have a definite beginning and end point that must exactly match start to finish to give that single design appearance.

      @@PowerToolsWithThread Thanks, Becky. I think I will wait for a bit to buy them. I think I'll be fine with individual blocks for QAYG but it is the all over quilting that I have trouble with. I might try what someone else suggested which was embroider onto some stabiliser and place them on your fabric as guides.

    Would the tiles work for any in the hoop quilting design? Just wondering

    In ease of use, how would you compare this technique with what JuJu has in its end-to-end quilting? I’m not proficient on the end-to-end by any means but I have used it to make a Christmas wall hanging. I have purchased several patterns from JuJu but one problem I have discovered is my project does not fit exactly within the parameters of the hoopings. I have a little bit left once I get to the end of a line of hoopings. UGH. How do I get that 3” that remains? HELP! Does this new method from Kimber Bell work better with this problem. I can’t tell by looking at the picture of the JuJu design if the design is scaled the same on an 8x8” hooping as it will stitch out on a smaller version (like a 4-6 hooping) to fill in that 3-4” that is still needing to be quilted. That’s a great idea to add the no-show stabilizer to give you a little more fabric to hold it all in the hoop so you don’t have a space in the hoop with no fabric in it. I did that too. But I just used a small strip. Should have just used a big piece. I hate wasting that stuff. I have a drawer full of left over pieces that I use for smaller projects and I found some strips that I could put together to fit behind so I could use the 8x8 hoop all the way out, but I still have several inches left that are not quilted. I struggled with this because another full-sized 8x8 hooping it was way bigger than I needed and I couldn’t figure out how to get just a partial run of the full design to fit in that smaller space. Any suggestions?

      DBJJ's designs are not supposed to fit exactly within the confines of your quilt top. You're doing it right!

      @@PowerToolsWithThread so then how do I get those edges quilted without changing the size of the quilting pattern as it is quilted next to those patterns already quilted?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kathyclayton4318 DBJJ's e2e designs are designed to mimic a pantograph. A longarmer will start about 1" - 1/2" off one edge of the quilt top and then finish off the other edge. The don't even attempt to constrain the pantograph to the exact size of the quilt top. Your supposed to quilt off the edges. Start the pattern again where the last one ended, and when the pattern will no longer stitch on the top, stop the machine and move on to the next row.

    • @kathyclayton4318
      @kathyclayton4318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PowerToolsWithThread ok, so I should have started the quilting pattern a couple of inches left of the left edge (out in the margin, so to speak ) then the amount of space I would have left over on the right side of my quilt would be less than what I have. Would have been nice to know that up front. Or maybe I just missed it not realizing the need to start farther left of the left side. Ok. I’ll keep that in mind. Glad this is only just a small wall hanging, only three or four hoopings across. I’m anxious to try a picnic-sized quilt. Or large lap-sized. I guess using the JuJu method is not the same as doing quilting using the Statler computer quilting patterns because they always just start at the left edge of the quilt and move across to the other side. But in that case you put the dimension of the quilt into the computer so the computer knows how far it has to go from left to right and adjusts the pattern accordingly. Ok. Got it. I was comparing the JuJu method to that rather than using a pantograph. I have used a pantograph on a long arm but I started on the right edge and went to the left edge and didn’t really go off the edge, nor did I start off of the edge. That’s how I was shown how to do it. I have very little experience though. Only did it a few times times just practicing. It did not turn out that good. Even with a laser light to follow it looked like scribble! LOL! Thanks for your help, Becky. You are so great to share your experience and your fearless experimenting with us. I always learn something new from your videos! And I love that you promote Brother products!

      @@kathyclayton4318 Yay! I love it when viewers "get it"! The longarmer who did pantos at my quilt store always started about 1/4-1/2" off the edges and then finished off the edge - sides and top/bottom so she had complete coverage. I tried and had scribble results too. lol That's why I love my Quilt Butler computer on my longarm. But you and I aren't computers so we have to fake it till we make it. ha ha I normally place my pattern template in the center of my row, then end-to-end flop the pattern over toward the outside edge until I get a guestimate of where I should start the pattern on the side. If it's too far off, you can always hoop it like that and then advance the pattern using the Needle +- button so it starts where you want. I will do that method with directional animal patterns like the flamingos. Or, if the pattern is like the paisley that flops around everywhere, I'll just start it on the edge wherever and have at it. Once you allow yourself to have the freedom not to be constrained inside of the boundary of your quilt top, it gets incredibly easier. :) Enjoy!
