I think Boling will take the crown this time. Joseph will be right on him, but I think his slow start will cause too much space to open up if Boling starts out with his hair on fire. Boling's form is much improved and as such he can hold his speed closer to top end a bit longer than before and so he should have just enough of a lead to stay in front despite Fanbulleh running him down in the closing meters. Or maybe Fanbulleh starts better and keeps the hammer down and just decimates the entire field. But I'd think Boling for this race.

More importantly though he's undefeated against Boling in the 200m having beat him 3 times already including recently at Florida Relays. Times are nice, but there's a reason why races are still run. Some sprinters are true competitors and rise to the occasion of big events/elite competition, others fade away. Trayvon Bromell/Noah Lyles may have had the world leads in the 100m/200m last year but both still lost come the Olympics. There's a difference between running an elite time when stakes are low and going and executing when everything's on the line.

Both these guys were coasting to the line in their heats. I think a big difference in this year's finals is that Boling will not be competing in the long jump. In the indoor championships, he tried to do too much and wasn't excellent in any event. This time around, the heats are spread out over multiple days and Boling should be fresh for the final. That, along with his noticeably more relaxed style, should produce a win for Matt....but he tightens up at all, Fahnbulleh will beat him. With no headwind, the winner should run 19.90 or better.

20.23 seconds is mediocre time and shouldn't even be covered on this channel. But we all know why even Boling's mediocre times are making it to this site. I am okay with Boling's 19.92 seconds being covered on this site but not this mediocre 20.23 seconds heat.

It was a heat, not the finals, and he was first in that semi, so . . . You're going to throw the "white boy" card on the table now? Why? He's fast, he wins and he keeps improving. What more could we hope for? Get over his complexion!

I say Matthew Boling wins. He turned it on and off twice in that race. Finally looks relaxed. He's a little uneven coming off the turn, but if he's running with that power today I see him edging it out. It's almost as if he's using a strategy specifically to beat Fanbulleh. Saving some serious kick for the end.

What I have noticed is that Mathew Boling is not the problem, it s the people that he attracts to the sport that’s the problem. I like to call it the Tim Tebow affect. Because he is whyte he attracts many alt right, Fox News non track fans to the sport. Who quickly turns the narrative into he is the greatest sprinter of all time etc…

Boling not only looks more relaxed, but he appears to have better endurance to stay on-form/at-speed for those last 50M-80M where a lot of 200m runners start to tie up and slow down. Fahnbullah needs to work on his start; if he gets that smoothed out he'll be one of the top-ranked runners on the world stage. Both gus slowed down the last 10-15m, so the slower (relative) times in these heats races were understandable. No predictions from me but it should be a great race.

Glad to see Boling running with a relaxed face (open mouth, bouncy cheeks)again....makes all the difference in the world. Not sure why in high school his form was great, first 2 years of college he's Stiff as a board, now back to relaxing in his 3rd year. A lot of people think it was because a new coach came in....but I think it was the stupid indoor tracks that ruined his form. Hope he never runs an indoor meet ever again. I like Bolings slow, steady progression he's making....I think he'll definitely make the US 2024 olympic team in the 200m and 4x1

JF is a freight train and amazing closer, but MB is faster than last year and Caryl Smith Gilbert has him ready. I've never seen a bigger impact on a runner by a coach.
    Caryl Smith Gilbert is 😎

Great analysis this time, spot-on for both runners. Matt really has made progress and I'm thrilled, wasn't sure he would ever learn the ever-advancing science of the 200 meter race, but Caryl Gilbert-Smith is an outstanding coach. I haven't seen as much of Joe so far this season. Dunno who will win but no doubt Boling and Fahnbulleh will be top 2 . . Therefore, I'm looking also at the underdogs Lance Lang and would've been Jacory Patterson but I guess he will focus on the 400.

Fanbullehs running style reminds me of Norman's in a way. It looks like Boling has a lot of rotation motion in his running form. If Boling tightens his form to a brommell level and fanbulleh focuses on his drive phase both are 19.7-19.8 athletes.
