Actually you do NOT have to use sulfuric acid!...i have rebuilt many old batterie's using an (epsom salt) solution, it work's very well, and last's more than 2 year's easily...i like your charcoal idea, as long as it's a good quality carbon source it will conduct electricity very well!...

You would need 6 IBC to keep the cells separated. Good luck finding 6000lt of sulphuric
Before you seal the top of battery filled with the carbon. Also give 2 or less amps slow charge. Prevent smoke ( sulfuric gas ) is splosive with the spark of the terminals. Very good video thanks.

It is amazing how many pairs of common substances will indeed function as a battery. The charge density and run time may not be as much as a commercially available battery. But it may be perfectly good for what you need it for, such as charging a smart phone during a blackout.

What can be the capacity (AH) of this battery ? Guess will not be able to drive an starter motor for two or three consecutive starts.

Before you solder the plastic cover you need to put the carbon first then soldering the plastic cover and last the acid solution.

@@desiideascreativity : Also keep all lead connections in place of the plastic battery box, cut only 3/4 of the cell compartment leave 1/4 for the electrons to move from + Positive to - negative, then fill with charcoal the cells, the reseal cover of the Battery, then last sulfuric acid as energy catalyst. Acid solution you mean Acid+water...and by carbon?! Where do we get it.
@@Thato3700: Only sulfuric acid only to fill the cells, the acid shall be placed only one time. Then slow charge. Destil water if the level of acid go down.

This battery will have the ampere/ hour of 3 series connected small cell phone battery or maybe less . 50 times less than normal. What he should have done is to make sure no plates were shorting refurbish them and reattach them, check none are shortlisted then assemble. Battery will be close to normal.
What were you using for your soldering ? Lead and ? And are you using a welder or batteries

i used to see those who repair old car batteries is by removing all positive plates and negative plates, examine the bad plate then replace with a much better plate. If your own way works well and fine, though im sure it wont be a strong power like spinning the to start an engine.

It's not a battery anymore, it's a capacitor, just like any other capacitor, it stores energy buy half as much and 1/4 of the amp.
there are no plates in the divisions of the container? I think ints only one plate in every division= low current.

Some people think that it is fake .. But I guess they did not study physics in school or never hear about lemon or potato battery... This experiment is correct but this type of battery (calling supper capacitor would be appropriate) have very low energy density maybe just 1 to 5% as compared to normal lead acid battery... I suggest him try to use Activated carbon with carbon black to increase its energy density and Internal resistance.. Also increase the size of lead preferably in plate shape.
If this is not fake, then WHAT DETERMINES THE BATTERY POLARITY since the same metal is used?

it a great idea . from scrap can you said how long it last with the lead ligh bulb on or dc motor on. you shoud sale them all ready made with out the acid that way you can ship it an cheaper so poor people can have something efficiency an cheap .hope you understand my writing

It's probably illegal in the States because of Lead pollution. These guys are probably in Pakistan or India.
It's much safer for your health to just buy a new battery and take the old one to be recycled.
Or you could try connecting one of those small welders sets to the battery and boiling it to de-sulphate the plates, after topping up the sulphuric. Demonstration is on TH-cam

what about using bases like sodium or potassium hydroxide as electrolyte. Additionally what is the Ah Rating for a battery like this? I really want to do PEV's like my emoto/scooter using this concept that I can just re-roll my vehicles battery vs spending an arm and a leg to buy another 72v/ 20Ah lithium battery.
I don't always spill battery acid on my floor, but when I do, I prefer to rub lead on my skin.
I like mine with some salt, I find the Plain lead oxide a bit too sweet.

That was the old lead contacts just looks different due to being shiny due to not have gotten an oxide layer.

@@ananiasmelongo6687 Sulphuric acid. Get one that is pre diluted with distilled water and don't splash it in your eyes. Don't mess with concentrated sulphur acid because you can easily hurt yourself very badly.

these batteries work but not for high current application, or in other words these are not a high current batteries as others like lead acid, lithium-ion or lithium iron phosphate. for example first crank car engine needs around 400Amp to start which only can be provided by high current batteries. in term of batteries more current mean more time. let say 12v 10amp hour give you small time to use while 12v 100amp hour give you more time to use it.
