    I remember when I was little my Grandmother kept a container to shave soap bars into in the laundry room to use in her wash. When we traveled she collected all the hotel soap in our room to use for this too! This reminded me of that! She had an old ring washer and I used to stand behind to catch the clothes from the wringer and put in the basket to take outside and hang on the line.

    Can you add fragrance oil?

    • @GrandmasHouseFun
      @GrandmasHouseFun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you could. I don’t know the amount. The fragrance booster I used in the video was Downy UN Stopables but you can use anything you like. Thank you for watching. 💕

    QUESTION: Do you find that the borax weakens the elasticity of your socks or other stretchy type clothes? I was using it and it ruined my socks after a little while. Even new socks lost their elasticity after a few weeks.

      Oh wow. No I've never noticed that. I have never had any issues. The only thing I do different than what I did in the video is I don't mix the scent in the powder. I add it separately, but I may have said that in the video. I can't remember that I did the video years ago.

    I just make a liquid recipe, but I think next time I’m going to do this, I couldn’t find any essential oils that I liked either.

    If You use soap bars You can put them un squares and place in the microwave for about a minute ley cool and is easier to obtain flanes using a food processor and cheaper than the box of flakes. and did You know that Zote is a Mexican brand andvits Made out of coconut oil so it's good to your skin and good to your hair it prevents from falling down and it grows faster.

    You made about 260 oz or 16.5 lbs of product, excluding the optional scent booster. Two tbsp weigh a total of about 2.3 oz, so the batch should wash 113 loads using your recommended dose.
    Your mixture contains 24 oz of soap. 24/113 = 0.2 oz of soap/load. A paper clip weighs 0.049 oz. Therefore, each load is being washed with about 4 paper clip’s weight of soap.

      It lasts a looong time! Thanks for doing the math! 😁

      Grandma's House
      Correct. The cleaning solution it produces is extremely dilute, which explains why it lasts a long time, similar to what’s described in the link.

      @@GrandmasHouseFun Makes you wonder what was his point. If only 4 paper clips weight of soap cleans your laundry, that's pretty terrific & for a fraction of the price of store bought. Also makes me wonder if he works for Tide, Cheer,Gain. LOL He has a lot to say under a lot of DIY videos about making laundry detergent.

    Washing soda is caustic.

    • @GrandmasHouseFun
      @GrandmasHouseFun  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it is, this is why we don't cook with washing soda. It is not used alone. The Baking soda helps to neutralize it. With out the washing soda you would not be able to lift any time of grease or grime out of the clothing. If you look at the ratio of the mixer you will see that it is not harmful. If you however have allergies to anything in this detergent, please don't use it.
