I wasn't aware of the Pertinax bio. It was a concern because, as you noted, I am doing a Roman Emperors Reading Challenge, covering the first two centuries of The Principate. I didn't know what to do for some of the 'lesser knowns'. This is a revelation., and something of a relief. Thanks!
I'll probably do a vid at some to "officially" join in and participating with the event, once I find some more potential reads. Some of them still may not such as Didius Julianus after Pertinax, though there is probably a book on the year of the 5 emperors as a whole I'd guess. Strangely enough as well I haven't found a monography of Titus. It's a great idea for a reading challenge for sure
Yeah I wouldn't buy it new either, I'd probably never actually pay 50 for a single book lol. There may be some more book reviews online that deal specifically with history and stuff too as well to balance it out.
I’ve not read anything on the Roman emperors. I recently got books on Augustus, caligulila, and a book called ten Caesars. There are so many it’s hard to keep them all straight. I’m currently reading about Alexander the Great by Philip freeman. I have another by Paul cartledge. I’ve not reading about Roman history or its rulers.

Great video, Justin. I’m especially interested in the book about women in the ancient world.
Missing Thread is great and would be easy to follow along with even if you are new to reading about some of the cultures described.
I love your vids and I should probably start reading Polis!
Haha nice, let me know if you do!
Great vid, again!
Polis got some bad reviews on Amazon, so I'm hesitant, plus it costs about $50 right now. Maybe In a year or 2 I'll give it a shot.

I'd love more recommendations for other books discussing the 2nd century.
I'll have to see what I can come up with for that

Cartledge and Freeman are both good for new readers to the topic. So is Strauss if that's the 10 Caesars book. Which Caligula book did you pick up?
@ Caligula, the corruption of power by Anthony a Barrett. Yes the ten Caesar’s is the one by Barry Strauss.
@user-iz6cc6lz3j-Vickie ill check out that Caligula title, thanks for the rec!
@@user-iz6cc6lz3j-Vickie Ten Caesars by Barry Strauss! Very good pick up!
Despite the future being uncertain and perhaps anxiety inducing, I am glad your fondness for Polis has endured 😂😅
Lol more ancient Greek concepts and ideals need that kind of treatment
If you’re gonna wave the book around at least please hold it up to camera at the beginning or post a thumbnail of the cover in the corner.
