The State of Super Mario 3D Land Coinless.

- In December 2018, Nintendo Content Creator, and personal idol, Ceave Gaming, made a video detailing his struggles to complete a coinless challenge in Super Mario 3D Land. In February 2019, NicoBBQ detailed his dive into the Special World Levels. And in 2019, I discovered a glitch that slashed this coin record into pieces.
In this video, I compile and showcase every problem and solution of everyone's findings, including my own. This is the current state of Super Mario 3D Land Coinless.

Ok, I got this comment way too often, so I'll just post it here.
No. You can't use panning the camera to get rid of the cosmic clones. It doesn't work like that.
This channel feels like it's stuck in 2012. I love it. The animation style and the fact that the gameplay is recorded from a camera and not the actual DS is weirdly nice

To be fair, recording a 3DS is still insanely hard. The easiest option would have been emulation... except the devs of Citra also happened to make Yuzu, and they got a bit greedy and ended up taking all their stuff down because of legal trouble...
I would have paid for a native capture card, but... come on, look at my channel. I'm barely making money on this thing. $200 is a lot of money for a venture that has very little to return on investment
Didn’t even know you could smuggle P-wings to different levels
I remember sucking at the special world castles back in the day, so one day what I did was start fresh while making sure to not beat any of the optional levels from the normal worlds 1 to 8. then after i got to the castle in S5 i would go back to the unbeaten levels, grab a pwing from there and use it to beat that castle. allowed me to get to S8 while being absolutely terrible at the game. of course i never did beat S8 because of the afformentioned skill issues but it was fun nonetheless. i should go back and right my wrongs and beat them all legit
I want to see someone do a pacifist route with P-Wings. It must be possible.
I think it's very possible, but it would be a quite boring challenge. Since you could just P-Wing smuggle over every problematic level.

Just one thing: I really like the idea of showing the name of the song and the picture of the game next to it, however, some people might want to look after the song, but won't know the name of the game.
Would be cool if you could somehow cram the name of the track's game somewhere there ^-^

@@GoldenTGB I thought the idea was to use small mario to roll beside the coin as it was rotating. If the coins hitbox matches the visual than you can maybe squeeze next to it as it turns parallel to the hall.

Unless there's an unlit brazier after the circular room you need to go to from the circular room, can't you collect the star coin, P-wing out of the level, then get the other two star coins?
It's been forever since I played the game, so forgive me if it I'm incorrect in some way
I'm not quite sure what you mean...
But my thinking for the Torch Room, is that you need to have a fire flower to light the torches, you can get the second Star Coin. If you have a P-Wing, you must be Fire Mario, since that's how the game works. The Strub trick has only been performed and documented once, and I don't think it would be possible to do it the other way
Its quite surprising there arent any speed building glitches or warping
I'm pretty sure you can kill Cosmic Clone with a fire flower, maybe if you do that at the end of the level then it won't give you coins
You know, if your 3DS is hacked there is a program called Snickerstream that lets you stream your 3DS footage directly to a computer, so there isn’t that awkward artifact caused by recording an LED screen

Hello, is the Super Mario 3D Land TAS discord at 13:46 public? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet.
I don't think so. I think it's an "offshoot" of the 3D Land Speedrunning Discord. At the time I joined, someone from the Discord posted the link, so I just joined it from there
Forgive me if this has been thought of before, but... could one theoretically outpace/camera tilt in such a way as to disable the Cosmic Clone coins? There's definitely _some_ distance requirement, or else you'd have to kill every enemy in the "one-screen" levels.
The Cosmic Clone needs to be off-screen, and a fair amount too. As far as I know, there's no way to do that.
Maybe there's some unknown glitch that would allow you to move fast enough for it. I know long jumps have a glitch where your sideways speed is uncapped, allowing you to to move absurdly fast if there's enough space to fall long enough. And even though this game is a decade old I've only ever seen like one or two videos on TH-cam showing it off.
Will cosmic clones give you coins if there offscreen? If so can't you do the same camera trick you did before for the dandelions?

That was intentional for one scene
you should get an emulator (i would reccomend lemonade since citra has been shut down) and screen record that. otherwise, great video!

I wouldn't call it beef, but there are some youtubers who would do a challenge like this, do over every level, and spend like 40 seconds describing how they beat the level, to what would normally be boiled down to "Just dodge good lol"
