I have the Hults Bruk Almike (same as the Hultan) and the GB wildlife hatchet. We have mostly hardwood here and the Hults Bruk is a much better all around performer. I do like the feel of the GB wildlife hatchet but it really is a step behind in tough hardwood.
I doubt that these are intended to split hard wood. With these smaller axes I feel like they have a lot of overlap with the function of a large knife but require less energy to complete the same task. Where you would need to do hard chopping or baton with a knife these offer a more comfortable alternative. They're bushcraft tools, not log splitters. But good to know the Hultafors is better at splitting, I believe it's due to the extra weight and the head geometry. The GB is almost like a tomahawk clearly meant to be choked up on for carving and all sorts of specialized tasks, the Hults is shaped more like a splitter.
I was given the Hultafor hatchet in this video for teaching a fly casting class for an Orvis shop. I have come to really appreciate this hatchet. It came really sharp. I like the longer handle then most hatchets come with. I do a lot of hiking and I find it is great for getting fire wood. I also carry a folding saw if I am going to make a small fire. The longer handle give you more power to cut small limbs. I also use it when I mark larger logs to cut with a chainsaw to heat my home. The quality leather blade guard is really good to protect yourself when not in use. I usually put it in my pack and occasionally reach in by feel to find what I want. The leather guard earns its keep.
Possiedo la Granfors da più di 30 anni! Costava già allora tantissimo. Ma quando la usi tutte le volte senti che sei su un altro pianeta! Piccola, leggera e precisa. L'ho affiancata da qualche anno alla Roselli. Bel duo!
Thank you so much for sharing this video Alli. The GB Wildlife Hatchet is an excellent tool. I’ve been using it for 5yrs it has not failed me. And it is interesting that we have the same axe maker AS on your GB Wildlife Hatchet. Blessings, from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Actually the slightly longe size of the Hultafors is a safety advantage plus the heavier the better too when using. I believe that if you already decided to carry an axe than the 100 Gramms more or not that much of an issue but it is safer an easier to use :) cheers and thanks for the nice comparison
What a good comparison review of these 2 premium hatchets. I wish I would've seen this before I bought the Hults Bruk Almike, although I am happy with it. Thanks for your opinion 😊
So great to hear that you like my little test video! I think the best way to say what’s good or not is to use an item and I used these two hatchets so many times! What is your favorite?
Good choice! Both are very great hatchets! It depends what you need and what you are doing in the woods! And the Wildmarksbeil is an awesome thing 👊🏻☝🏻😎👍🏻
Hello Alli, that’s an awesome review and it’s plain to see you know exactly what you’re talking about. It’s videos like this we can learn before making the decision on what to purchase. Thank you so much for sharing.... could you you sometime show us how to sharpen the hatchet? Thank you 🙏
Thank you very much for your positive feedback, Pete! I used these two hatchets so many times and it’s practice that shows you what’s the best for you! Good idea to make a ‚how to sharpen‘ video! Hope you are fine?! And all the best Alli and Ben 🙋🏼♀️🙏🏻🙏🏻🐾
while it was a beautiful video and well done, you need to take some lessons on how to chop a log. you were getting a lot of rebound, diminishing the axes effectiveness. no offense
Schöner Vergleich 😄... trotzdem könnte ich mich nicht entscheiden wenn ich jetzt eine neue Axt bräuchte 😂😉. Also müsste ich wohl beide haben 😜... LG Kevin 👋🏼🤠
🤣😂 Wie witzig, Kevin! Was sagt Ela dazu?! Aber ich weiß was Du meinst! Ist echt schwer und meine Entscheidung habe ich auch erst nach etlichem Gehacke machen können 🤣😂 Schöne Grüße Alli
Greetings from the UK! Nice video, thank you. I've literally just ordered a Hultafors Åby & an H 009 SV trekking axe, did your Hultån come with a sheath? I'm also thinking of getting a Casström overstrike guard for the Åby, any thoughts? In advance, many thanks for your time. Best regards, Manny

Nice review Ali. I've got a couple of Hultafors axes and like them alot. I live 40km from where they are made 😊🇸🇪👍

@@BushcraftAlli I like my Hultafors mini Ågelsjön hatchet and a big one that I use for chopping wood at home
Thanks for this video, it has helped me a lot in picking the right hatchet. 🙂 Greetings from Canada
Thank you for the positive feedback! What did you choose?

Sehr gerne! Toll dass es Dir gefallen hat. Mit beiden machst du nichts falsch!
Great video Ali ! Judging from this video, I would go for the Wildmarksbeil.
Good choice! Both are very great hatchets! It depends what you need and what you are doing in the woods! And the Wildmarksbeil is an awesome thing 👊🏻☝🏻😎👍🏻

I like the hultafors axe. Hultafors axe the best in world ❤️. I come from Thailand. I have a Hultafors 4 axe.
Hello Thailand! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Wow...i like Germany. I love it
Thanks great rew
You’re welcome ☺️
My favorite is the gransfors bruks. 👍🏻
Yeah! It’s a perfect axe
I like the Hultafors more because it has a thinner profile than Granfors as I see it, Danke.
Great! It’s an awesome hatchet and how great that we have the possibility to choose, isn’t it?
@@BushcraftAlli Yes it is nice to have a choice than to have no choice at all, Thanks to you.
This is a really great review. I like especially the great amount of details. Thanks a lot for all the information
Thank you very much for your feedback! Yes, I like to show you as many details as I can so you have a good impression of the items!
🔥🔥 Great vidéo
Thank you and cool that you like it
Axellent workmanship
😁👍🏻😎🙏🏻
🪓👍🪓👍Difficult to choose one of them.Maybe that's why you have one of each 😄
🤣😂 Yes, that could be a reason! 🤣😂 Thanks for watching!
Really good review, im looking for a new axe. Will probably buy gränsfors 👍 thumbs up from sweden
Thank you for your positive feedback! You will love this hatchet 🪓
Maybe the best small axe in the Word!?🤙🏽I‘m looking forward to get one, but they get more and more expensive! 🤷🏻♂️
Well, there are a lot of axes out there that are brilliant! I have an eye on the axes of @roselli

The Husquarna Campingaxe for 40€ is the same like this Hultafors Hultan.
Can I know how long it is from butt to cutting edge and toe to beard length?
And butt length please

I see you wear your thoughts on your hat.
😎😄
ชอบมาก💖
