Peter Green was the founder of the group on lead guitar and vocals. He brought Mick Fleetwood and John McVie with him from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Named Fleetwood Mac instead of Peter Green Group because he needed to make sure Mick and John joined up. McVie originally declined (he wanted a regular paycheck, LOL) but changed his mind a month later. Also in the band were Jeremy Spencer (slide guitar) and, later on, Danny Kirwan (third guitar!). The Stevie Nicks-Lindsay Buckingham-Christine McVie Fleetwood Mac emerged in the mid-70s with a whole different sound. Green left the group in 1970 after someone spiked his acid in Munich, Germany while on tour, probably triggering the mental illness he suffered for the rest of his life. He never recovered from this incident although he did resume his career later in life. He passed in 2020 at age 73. When he was alive and well, with Fleetwood Mac, he was considered by a lot of people better than Eric Clapton. B.B. King said he was the best white blues guitarist he'd ever heard. No cap. Thanks guys for starting this journey!
Don't forget about the lineup between with Bob Welch, Christine, Danny, John & Mick. Bob & Christine were the major writers & vocalists. Danny did write also. They were basically Blues, then Blues Rock, then Pop Rock. The last lineup is their most successful lineup but I liked the first two better.
Christine (Perfect) Mcvie was the first of 2 female singers along with Stevie Nicks to perform with Fleetwood Mac. Christine came from a UK blues band called Chicken Shack.
Singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks and singer/guitarist/songwriter Lindsay Buckingham joined the group in 1975. You must see their live performance of "Rhiannon" on The Midnight Special TV show.
The group begins in UK as a blues rock band with peter green lead guitar, singer..make a restart in usa later with Stevie nicks and linchey bunckinham..different music style ...Island make it big..enormous big..
I know this will be a topic of many posts about this reaction, but this is early Fleetwood Mac when they were a blues band. Later they became a pop/rock band with female(Christy McVie and Stevie Nicks) band members. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Peter Greene started the band after they left John Mayall's blues band. Greene wrote this song that Santana later made a huge hit out of!
A white Jewish guy in the UK playing and singing songs either written by or influenced by black blues artists from the U.S. and he names his band after the drummer and bass player. His voice and playing are top notch. It’s sad he went a little crazy. Such talent.❤️🎸
He got it back cos I saw him live in 81 I think. He was feet away from me, overweight, bearded but majestically himself. This is the Mac I fell in love with.
This song is from 1968, with Peter Green on vocals and lead guitar. They were, and remain, the best British Blues band ever, but the band changed after Peter Green left in 1970.
Fleetwood Mac and Santana were inducted into the RRHOF the same night. Peter Green was inducted with FM but did not perform with them, however he did perform this song with Santana that night.
The band has gone through 18 members in their career. This is the early blues days fronted by Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. The mid period was fronted by Bob Welch, Christine McVie and Danny Kirwan. What is considered the classic line up began in 1975 when the band was fronted by Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. Start with the self titled album from 1975 and then Rumours which was their biggest album. You will need to get into live versions also. The band rocks much harder live. The band is named after drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass player John McVie.
Hypnotized off of the 'Mystery to Me' album has a grove you'd like. It's from the Bob Welch years circa 1973 and fits right in with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, etc.
THIS line up was my first introduction to FLEETWOOD MAC!! This was even before Christine joined the band. So totally different-even different from Santana's version, the sound changed through the years -BUT I loved each grouping of artist!! Check out "OH Well", one of my favs. Thanks for reaction to OLDER line up. 👌🏼👍🏻🎸 Someone just confirmed it was Peter Green who came up with the group's name Fleetwood Mac.👍🏻
The "second" band of Fleetwood Mac indeed had Christine MacVie who passed away just a few months ago and Stevie Nicks. Christine was the former wife of the bass player of the band while Stevie was involved with the guitarist. Each relationship ended but they kept recording and touring as a band. Santana does a great job as a cover with the organ/piano player, Greg Rolie, and he did the vocals.
This is Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac back when they were a Blues band. They went alternative for awhile after he left and then full Rock when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined - their best known period. They had two female vocalists at the same time Chrissie McVie recently passed away. She had been with the band since the 60s.
The Original Band line up!Peter Green possibly the Greatest ever Jewish East end of London Blues Guitarist!!! Well actually Definitely!!.. Loving your reactions!! You make me realise yes I did have great musical taste back in my teenage years in the 70s!!!...
This is from their second album, "English Rose" which you should check out along with their "Then Play On" album, two essentials from the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac.
Guys, there are two incarnations of this band (actually three). The later one (late 70's on) with Buckingham and Stevie Nicks is probably the most popular. Christine McVie (keyboards/vocals) performed with both. With this reaction, you are getting into the original, the real Fleetwood Mac (late 60's to about 72; the best, imo). Mostly blues based with amazing instrumentals by guitarist Peter Green, who wrote this song; also Jeremy Spencer who could emulate Elmore James and Buddy Holly, Danny Kirwan, young guitar prodigy and one of my favorites, bassist John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood. I grew up listening to the original Fleetwood Mac, absolutely love them. You might want to check out: "Rattlesnake Shake" (there is also a killer live version of this from their Boston show in 1970, 24 min. long), "Heart Beat Like A Hammer", "Albatross", "Oh Well" and "Underway" among others. Speaking of blues, you need to also hear Johnny Winter.
Oh, I forgot to mention a killer 3 piece, The James Gang. Their first 3 LP's feature guitarist / singer Joe Walsh all are great but the 2nd LP , " Rides Again", is a killer no filler with heavy songs like Funk #49, Woman, The Bomber and Tend My Garden plus softer acoustic sweetness like Thanks and Ashes the Rain & I. Dale Peters on bass and drummer, James Fox, it's his "Gang", is a snappy and tasty player, too. Beware of the band after Joe leaves to go solo. He also played with the Eagles on Hotel California. The song The Bomber has 2 versions, the original is 7:04 and the edited is 5:39 because of copyright issues over using Ravel's "Bolero".
Try Need your love so bad with Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac 1968 home and Bob Welch were there before Stevie Nicks , Lindsay Buchingham and Christine McVie
Christie Mcvie and Stevie Nicks were vocals and keyboards (Mcvie) on a few of their albums. There were a few different amazing musicians in and out of the band over the years. Fleetwood Mac and Rumors are the albums I am most familiar with. Christie Mcvie died in 2023.
When you mix the blues with golden tunes, you get Green. Peter Green. This iteration with Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwin, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood are the best of all the variations. Your mileage may vary.
BB King one stated Peter Green had the best tone on a guitar he had ever heard....and don't forget Danny Kerwin on guitar & Jeremy Spencer... You want to try Oh Well...BANGER !!!!
Fleetwood Mac started out as a pure Blues band. Peter Green had a great blues voice as well as soulful guitar playing, check out Rattlesnake shake or Love that Burns. ☮️
Outstanding! I don't know how you gentlemen come up with your selections but you're somewhat unique. This is the early line up of Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green was the founder of the band. Peter had replaced Eric Clapton in Jon Mayalls Bluesbreakers and then started this band. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie were the rhythm section in the Bluesbreakers. Lore has it that Peter promised to name the band after them if they'd join him. Jeremy Spencer joined as a guitarist and vocalist. Danny Kirwan joined on guitar and vocals and this was the lineup for the early years. They were awesome! Other great songs from this era are Oh Well, Albatross, I Need Your Love So Bad, Rattlesnake Shake and whole lot 0f great blues covers. Too many think Black Magic Woman is a Santana song, but Green wrote it and sings it. Even more people believe that Fleetwood Mac is just the lineup with Mick, John, Christine Perfect/McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks......with two female vocalists and one male vocalist. Thanks!
I was stationed overseas in 1968 when Fleetwood Mac released this song. I retuned to the States in 1970 and caught the Santana version. It wasn't until years later that I discovered the original version by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. I like both version and I don't have a favorite of the two..
This is my favourite variant of Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. More bluesy than the later version. Check out The Green Manalishi With A Two Pronged Crown, Man of the World, Oh Well (parts 1 & 2). All classic tracks!
Hey Guys. This was the best Group out of all the versions of Fleetwwod Mac. Here is a treat for you. (Something inside of Me and If you be my Baby 1969.) Please play this one. This is a real Back in the Alley blues. It will knock your socks off.
This first incarnation of the famous band is a totally different music style to the later second version of Fleetwood Mac (with the women you mention). For more 'Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac' check out......... "I need your love so bad" (the full/extended version - 9 minutes); Oh Well (pts 1 & 2); 'Man of the World'; plus 'DO NOT' miss out the absolutely beautiful instrumental - 'Albatross'. [Btw - the one and only 'B. B. King' loved Peter Green's playing and famously said, 'he was the only guitarist he ever listened to that could give him cold sweats']. The Later Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie are MEGA famous/Excellent band with a ton of great hits. Start with 'The Chain' then you're off down a top quality rabbit hole.......
Brilliant that you start with FM Mark I/Peter Green's bluesy 60s period with Christine McVie/RIP; you can of course compare this original version with Santana's cover hit. Don't forget OH WELL/pt1+2 (as a kid I was positively confused and impressed at the same time, so a banger), then maybe compare it to the live version from the 1977 Tusk Tour with Lindsey and Stevie/FM Mark II. Other good tracks: Man Of The World and The Great Manalishi. These were all top ten hits in the UK. The biggest hit in Central Europe was the commercial instrumental Albatross/UK no.1 - comparable to Sanatana's Samba Pa Ti. I would be very happy if you proceed a bit chronologically, then you get a good impression of the development of a band. Many youngsters don't do that and start with the most commercial one. ✌👍Have fun dialing and especially listening to good songs!!!
😂 Bowie, Freddie, Labelle & The Brides of Funkenstein made it ok for me to want to be Stevie Nicks for Halloween! Lyndsey Buckingham was so cute! He sang lead on 'Second Hand News'. 😍 Blessed to see Stevie inducted in to the RnRHoF same year as Janet Jackson. They held the ceremony at Barclays in BK. 🥰🐰
This is early Fleetwood Mac. Not the band most people think of. That's Peter Green on guitar and vocals. He wrote this song which was later covered by Santana and they had a big hit with it. Try 'Oh Well' The short version, or 'I Need You Love So Bad'.
I highly recommend their cover of B.B. King's I've Got A Mind To Give Up Living. King said Green had "the sweetest tone. It gives me the cold sweats." The best recoding is from the Feb. 1, 1970 concert at the Warehouse in New Orleans (use those terms in the TH-cam search). Pure passion. Also check The Supernatural, which Green wrote and recorded with the John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Once you hear that loooooooooooong sustained guitar note you immediately hear where Carlos Santana got his sound.
saw this comment from @mrmiscast 'I almost feel sorry for you guys... I'm betting the LIST of what everyone has sent is LONG by now'. I was pondering the same thing and want to add Joe Walsh, 'Rocky Mountain Way' (studio version) to that 'LONG' list. Thanks for doing some Fleetwood Mac
Three completely different bands with the same bass player and drummer, Mic Fleetwood (drums)John McVie(bass)this song is Peter Green on vocals and guitar, Jeremy Spencer on guitar and Danny Kerwin on guitar. The second incarnation was Bob Welch on guitar and vocals with John's wife on keys and vocals. Lastly Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals, his ex-wife Stevie Nicks on acoustic guitar and vocals with Christine McVoe on vocals and keys.
Green was unbelievably on guitar for the time. Even his guitar became famous. Gary More used it and became another guitar god as well. The guitarist from Metallica bought it a few years ago and paid $2,000,000.00 for it.
Starting with Peter Green's late 60s Fleetwood Mac is DOPE! Bullseye! Fleetwood Mac Version 2, with a few early 70s radio hits, is Bob Welch's and Christine McVie's. Then, in its most successful iteration, Lindsey and Stevie literally steal the show to finish out the 70s. But! Fleetwood Mac actually is the rhythm section: Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. They're the engine, always there since the beginning, the only two originals. 😎 "Oh Well" for another v.1 recommendation "Hypnotized" for an intro to v.2 Fleetwood Mac and "The Chain" would be my first call for v.3
You're starting at a good point for this band. This is the early iteration with the founder Peter Green on vocals and guitar. Christine McVie, Lindsay Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks came a couple of years after Peter left the band. Peter wrote this song, but Carlos Santana covered it a few years later and made it his own. When you get to Santana's arrangement make sure you play it thru with Gypsy Queen into Oye Como Va.
Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac, Green the guitarist Mick Fleetwood drums, John Mcvie bass. In those days they had another 2 guitarists. Green got spiked with LSD an lost it, other members had drink issues, cults and LSD . A real cursed band, the two sane/functioning members left Flleetwood and Mcvie (with his wife Chris she died a month back ) left for the US and met Nicks and Buckingham , they really just wanted Buckingham but they come as a couple. Their early music is very bluesy
every time I saw Fleetwood Mac in the early 70’s it was mick John Christine and a new guitarist.. in 1975 in a hall that was half empty the new members were Stevie nicks and Lyndsey buckingham and then history was made ..
They have 5 singers, (after Peter Greens departure)..🤣 2 girls and 3 guys, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie (RIP sister) Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham...😊👍 they all sing, I'm glad you have decided to do Fleetwood Mac though, they're a band close to my heart, PLUS....here's a bonus. YA WOMEN will LOVE them...🤣 set the scene, dinner, candles, Fleetwood Mac playinginthebackground...JOB DONE...🤣🤣🤣
You started at the beginning :) late 60s they recorded a double album at Chess Studios Chicago.. Blues Jam at Chess.. you need to check it out. Peter Green is their lead guitar.. the old blues guys thought he had it. Great UK band x
There has been many iterations of this band. The only constant has been Mick “Fleetwood” and John “Mac”Vey. The original driving force was Peter Green. Dawdle for awhile in early Fleetwood Mac before you move on, blues genius.
Thanks for playing this version instead of the Santana cover. Next tune for Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac needs to be, "Oh Well - part 1" (th-cam.com/video/0yq-Fw7C26Y/w-d-xo.html), please. Jumping at Shadows and Rattlesnake Shake are some other great tunes. None other than BB King is reported to have said, "He (Peter Green) had the sweetest tone I've ever heard. He's the only 1 that gave me the cold sweats". Check out live tracks from the Boston Tea Party sessions. Some background info: Peter Green replaced Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreaker, where he met Mick Fleetwood and John McVie and eventually starting this (blues) band. 3 guitar players in this early incarnation of the band; Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer (primarily slide). The women joined later, in different band incarnations. The band enjoyed it's biggest commercial success (Rumours lp) in the 70's with a more pop, contemporary sound when Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined. Another recommendation would be Irish blues guitarist, Rory Gallagher. All his stuff is great, though anything off the Deuce album is really good; especially "Used To Be" - here's a link to a great live performance from German tv in the '70s: th-cam.com/video/Ty4_W7IAbf4/w-d-xo.html
Peter Green started to rise when he replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. His sound is unique that his 59' Gibson Les Paul's neck pickup was reversed legend says many different stories on that. It was either by accident or done intentionally, who really knows lol. I call it a happy accident because no one had Peter Green's sound. When he left The Bluesbreakers he formed Fleetwood Mac. The Bluesbreakers then got guitarist Mick Taylor to replace him. If you love Peter Green sound like many do, it would be great to take listen to Peter Green with John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers playing "The Supernatural" His "Greeny" Les Paul is the most popular Les Paul in history. You can really hear it in that tune, the sustain is for days. An incredible instrumental.
I hear strains of Robert Cray and Stevie Ray ... Though they were way after Peter...they obviously knew who he was. BB said, he was the Best. He lead the British Blues Revolution... It was the recording of this by Santana that saved Peter as he hated money and had been living on the mean streets after giving away all his money. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Santana and he and Santana played BMW at the induction.
Peter Green was the founder of the group on lead guitar and vocals. He brought Mick Fleetwood and John McVie with him from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Named Fleetwood Mac instead of Peter Green Group because he needed to make sure Mick and John joined up. Fleetwood Mac changed personnel like most people change underwear.
@@larryg7126 Some of the Bob Welch stuff was great, love the track Hypnotized
Clapton is considered to be the better guitarist by many. So there's that.
The Original Fleetwood Mac was a Blues Rock band with Peter Green on lead vocals and guitar!
Peter Green's era was fabolous. .Man of the world. ALbatross Oh well. I need your love so bad. Very original sound of Blues
the only Fleetwood Mac IMO
Christine (Perfect) Mcvie was the first of 2 female singers along with Stevie Nicks to perform with Fleetwood Mac. Christine came from a UK blues band called Chicken Shack.
Singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks and singer/guitarist/songwriter Lindsay Buckingham joined the group in 1975. You must see their live performance of "Rhiannon" on The Midnight Special TV show.
Santana didn't write this song, it's Peter Green( Fleetwood Mac's singer and guitarist), I love this version!!!! Thank you!
It amazes me how many people don't know about that.
@@gerhardbraatz6305 It's really crazy !!!!
@@lepetitoiseau Santana gives credit to Peter Green on every album that has this tune. It's unfortunate that many don't do their research first.
@@Biggolfdog I completely agree with you, it's not Santana's fault that people have assimilated this song to his name...
@@lepetitoiseau everyone has their opinion. Personally I think Santana did it better.
Another good song by this version of Fleetwood Mac is "Oh Well".
The group begins in UK as a blues rock band with peter green lead guitar, singer..make a restart in usa later with Stevie nicks and linchey bunckinham..different music style

Late 60's one of the best. Their best years.😊
This is very early FM. Check out "Oh Well" from the same time as this. You've got decades of FM music if you're gonna dive in.
I know this will be a topic of many posts about this reaction, but this is early Fleetwood Mac when they were a blues band. The first of three versions of Fleetwood Mac. Black Magic Woman was written by Peter Green, and as you see, recorded before Santana.
Guys you have to see Fleetwood Mac live in Norway they are playing outstanding blues Peter green is a magician
There is just something about Peter Green’s playing .. always very haunting .. he was a master
Rest In Peace Mr. Green

Right on, this is the perfect place to start, such an influential and nearly forgotten era of Fleetwood Mac.
Love that you started with early Fleetwood Mac....and looking forward to you listening to the later version of the band as well!
This song is from 1968, with Peter Green on vocals and lead guitar. They were, and remain, the best British Blues band ever, but the band changed after Peter Green left in 1970.
Debatable with Mayall's early bands including Clapton, then Green then Taylor.
Fleetwood Mac and Santana were inducted into the RRHOF the same night. Peter Green was inducted with FM but did not perform with them, however he did perform this song with Santana that night.

Hypnotized off of the 'Mystery to Me' album has a grove you'd like. It's from the Bob Welch years circa 1973 and fits right in with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, etc.
"Revelation" on "Penguin" is another Welch song with an infectious groove. I think my favorite song on "Mystery to Me" is the album closer "Why"
Absolutely 'Hypnotized' is fantastic
The sound quality on ‘Mystery to Me’ was “killer”. One of my favorite albums. I’m 69 now.
My favourite version of Fleetwood Mac
Done really great bluesy tunes with this set of the band! The originals.

Everyone thinks Santana wrote the song. It’s bloody irritating.

I'm not sure I'd consider the Buckingham-Nicks era as the "second" band of Fleetwood Mac.
Nope. Stevie, & her guitarist relationship, came MUCH later.

This tune was from the band's beginning. Another great early one is "Needle and Spoon."
Good job reacting to old Fleetwood Mac. Lots of blues there for you.
Peter Green's guitar tone and playing hits you right in the feels.
Likely the guitar he later sold/passed on to Gary Moore who played it for years with its unique tone.
PETER GREEN is one of the GOATs for sure! More please!

Their early work is great blues. Their sound has changed several times over the years.
Why the short version? The instrumental section is brilliant
Early Fleetwood Mac...the best.
The blues era Fleetwood Mac - Peter Green, one of the greatest white bluesmen of all time and certainly a guitarist beyond compare.
If you want to hear that full on guitar blues playing, you should really listen to 'a mind to give up living', it's one of the best and solo's ever.
Check their "Oh Well" Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 (mono, studio version). There's a 2018 remaster that's pretty good, but the original is perfectly fine.
I prefer the Fleetwood Mac before Stevie, not because I don't like her. But because Peter Green is one of the best. So original.
saw this comment from @mrmiscast 'I almost feel sorry for you guys... I'm betting the LIST of what everyone has sent is LONG by now'. I was pondering the same thing and want to add Joe Walsh, 'Rocky Mountain Way' (studio version) to that 'LONG' list. Thanks for doing some Fleetwood Mac
Hypnotized is another early fleet wood Mac track that is a must hear, the title doesn’t mislead
Great song, but not from this early era.
@@marymargaretmoore9034 ya, it's on 2nd line up of The MAC.
Lastly Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals, his ex-wife Stevie Nicks on acoustic guitar and vocals with Christine McVoe on vocals and keys.
gotta do Got me Hypnotized it’s one of the big early hits and the vibez are vibin
Green was unbelievably on guitar for the time. Even his guitar became famous. Gary More used it and became another guitar god as well. The guitarist from Metallica bought it a few years ago and paid $2,000,000.00 for it.
Love the Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac style better. Hits you to your Soul ❤
Bare Trees. Kiln House. My favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. ☮️❤️
And "Then Play On."
Peter Green was a marvellous guitar player and vocalist. Other tracks to try need your love so bad ,man of the world , oh well .
All stellar!
@@bobmarley8270 Jammin!!!
It's SANTANA you need to pursue. Thats the band that make Black Magic Woman HUGE. SANTANA!!!
"Oh Well" for another v.1 recommendation
"Hypnotized" for an intro to v.2 Fleetwood Mac
and "The Chain" would be my first call for v.3
Fleetwood Mac was one bad band ! Loved them .
This was great. Still love Santana's cover (the rhythm especially).
Fleetwood Mac changed personnel like most people change underwear. In the early days, they were more blues rock.
'Rumors' is one of THE best albums ever made. Try ANYTHING from that album.
The Song GREEN MANALISHI/1969 Then Play On Album/Fleetwood Mac
BB said Peter Green was the best blues guitar player he had ever heard
The original by the great Peter Green
You started at the beginning :) late 60s they recorded a double album at Chess Studios Chicago.. Blues Jam at Chess.. you need to check it out. Peter Green is their lead guitar.. the old blues guys thought he had it. Great UK band x
Peter Green was one bad cat.
There has been many iterations of this band. The only constant has been Mick “Fleetwood” and John “Mac”Vey. The original driving force was Peter Green. Dawdle for awhile in early Fleetwood Mac before you move on, blues genius.
Hypnotized is a good tune too
Then play on. Cracking blues album.
The guy in question is the founder of the original Fleetwood Mac, the legendary Peter Green.
Peter Green started to rise when he replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. His sound is
unique that his 59' Gibson Les Paul's neck pickup was reversed legend says many different stories on that.
It was either by accident or done intentionally, who really knows lol. I call it a happy accident because no one
had Peter Green's sound. When he left The Bluesbreakers he formed Fleetwood Mac. The Bluesbreakers then
got guitarist Mick Taylor to replace him.
Oh well part 1&2 ❤
I think y'all would get into Hypnotized, it's from the Bob Welch version of FM.
' English Rose ' is an early must hear LP.
Hypnotized next boyz...
Hey guys have a couple of suggestions for you Albatross Man of the World& Need your love so bad
