I Noah Thomas, the creator of this channel, have been diagnosed hypogonadism by a medical doctor and legally prescribed the medically indicated treatment of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.
    My Story
My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a medication called VIVITROL and consequently, spiraled into a suicidal depression with depersonalization and anxiety. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different doctor prescribed SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I had an explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started legally prescribed testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 6 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor.
I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

I believe these types of videos represent where I can offer the most value in general so I was happy with the response.

bignoknow ... Wow is all that I can say right now but these five tips I can totally relate to epically #2, I have ZERO comfort in bed, total insomnia for days.... It's horrible. Unfortunately a lot of my discomfort is due to a rare disease I have that is causing my deep depression for the second time in my 51 years! I will just keep on keeping on till somethings changes ...
Thank you for this video and words of compassion.

bignoknow Hey, my name is Matt... I can somewhat relate to you’re posts in the sense that most of what you say resonates with me, other than the part where you were able to get cut up and stay in that healthy “normal” routine while being truly chronically depressed ... I’ve been severely depressed going on 2 years now day In and day out. I would like to send you a video of my story in a kind of lengthy video. But I just want to send it directly to you specifically. “Private” more or less . Please hmu if you’re willing to accept.

Something that is helping me is what I call an "anticipation calendar". I plan out fun activities, places to travel to and explore, new restaurants to try out, etc. - writing them down on a calendar. It gives me something to look forward to. Having fun things to look forward to is so important!

The most helpful things I’ve found have been:
    1. Daily exercise. 4 times a week is clinically proven to work better than anti-depressants. I have fibromyalgia tho, and workouts generally make it worse. Fortunately, I discovered the Pavlov method. It uses daily, or almost daily strength training workouts w lower intensity reps & duration. The workout can be as short as 5-10 min & yield better faster results than traditional methods w much less effort. I’ve also learned working out first thing in the morning really helps me feel better.
    2. Taking a free online neurotransmitter survey, which will show which one or more ur low on. There’s at least 8 different kinds of depression & only 2 are related to serotonin...I believe all are related to low BDNF. Turmeric or curcumin w black pepper boosts this and reduces inflammation dementia risk joint pain etc. Many if not most who deal w deprived. Inexpensive supplements can be used to boost chemicals ur lacking. 5HTP is usually best for serotonin, tyrosine for dopamine, etc. Inisitol can be very helpful as well as GABA, and ashwagnda is pretty amazing.
    3. A ketogenic diet is best but any diet low or moderate in carbs will improve energy health & wellbeing, in almost all cases & seem to boost BDNF. With the ketogenic diet though, if you want to hello Lisa into it by lowering your carbs and raising your fats, or the first 1-2 weeks can be hard for some....others feel much better from day one.
    3. Herbal broad spectrum Candida cleanses/killers. Anyone who’s been on at least a few rounds of anabiotic‘s probably has an issue with this. For those of us who I’ve been on dozens of them throughout our lives, we usually have a very substantial issue, that main stream Medical Doctors usually don’t even believe exists. It often causes mild to moderate depression & anxiety wo any physical symptoms, but can cause all kinds of physical issues as well and comprises the bodies immune system. It constantly drips toxins that lower ur energy & mood, and can make u crave junk. If u kill it to quickly it dumps a lot of toxins & will make u sicker than you’ve ever been, so it’s important to go slow. It’s also what causes yeast infections in women but men usually don’t get external symptoms. It’s been estimated by experts to be responsible for the vast majority of mental health issues we have in the United States, including some pretty serious ones, and there’s been a lot of evidence on this since the 60s, the main stream has apparently continued to ignore.
    4. Undiagnosed thyroid issues. Experts in this area say currently over half the thyroid issues go on reported. I had chronic energy and pain issues for over 20 years that were almost completely caused by thyroid issues, but I was told my numbers were absolutely perfect by the mainstream medical establishment this entire time. A chiropractor figured out I had an issue, and over 20 issues of chronic fatigue went away in less than an hour after my first dose of natural desiccated thyroid, and chronic pain issues were down about 80% within weeks.
    Hope this helps!

I started off as an alcoholic at the age of 20 in the military. I wasn't depressed but alcohol drove me to depression and anxiety. I quit drinking alone but still drink with friends every other weekend or so. The nostalgia of music and kayaking where I grew up, and lifting a few days a week have helped a lot. Also getting back in communication with my parents and a high school friend has made a big improvement. I almost feel normal again. Don't give up.

It's ironic you mention nostalgia through music. One of the final catalysts for my descent into full blown anxiety was my relationship with music. Following a stressful year where my depressive anxiety was increasing, I had a very messy falling out with a former friend and lover who I had shared a great love of music with. Our relationship and friendship died in the flames of jealousy and recrimination. Once she met her soul mate, a man who shared a love of many of my most treasured albums and artists, I fell into a chasm of anger and anxiety. The music I had once loved became something to be fearful of because I didn't "own" it any more. It was "his" now. I even went so far as to sell off some of my favourite LPs, and to stop listening to, and delete, other music that had a great meaning to me. In the past, going back to my childhood, music was always my comfort blanket the thing that never let me down. So for this to happen was devastating.
I still have this major loss in my life, however I recently discovered that accessing "selective" nostalgia for certain music has been helpful. I started to say to myself "I haven't lost that music forever, one day I'll return to it", and I began to concentrate on that music that I associate with good times with other people who are still important to me. For example, I find I listen to a song like "Under the Pressure" by the War on Drugs, simply because it takes me to a place where I saw the band play on a balmy summer evening, and I was flanked by some really good friends. The therapeutic effects are tangible. Music has been a great help to me all my life, so I am convinced it will never hurt me in the long run :)

Go'n the Kid! Hope things continue the way they do for you and whilst I know that is a bit ambitious, so long as you remember we are all a community, it will. I think also the thing about music and old hobbies are good. Another thing I would say related to community is to get in contact with old friends - chances are that they can relate and the genuine ones always will bring back what it felt to be with friends who care for the real, deep down but presently absent persona.

Nostalgia walks kind of a fine line for me. I used to get too isolated binge-watching tv shows so the feeling of loneliness and self-loathing usually gets worse. Music works a little better but I find that asking people for their recommendations (or what's their favorite movie, show, music) is a great conversation starter and helps create connection. It seems like too much at times but it's worth a try.

Community. It is one of the most overlooked, and hardest, things to deal with. No amount of TRT or other medicine will work unless you can make connections with people outside of your own mind. When we're depressed a lot of us tend to isolate. I can't tell you how detrimental this is to our mental health. The farther we get away from in-person communication the more depressed we become.

Thanks for making this video. I live with depression and anxiety, and also have a rare condition that results in progressive vision loss. Have lost a chunk of it this year, and the transition is challenging. I don't expect life to be easy, but the past couple of months have really sucked.

Binge watching to still keep out of bed today. I'm gonna jog in front of the computer while I binge-watch your channel because I sure as hell ain't going outside. But that's what I got and that's what I'm doing.

One of my favorite motivational channels, I have major depression, bipolar, had psychotic episodes in the past, and have social anxiety and low self esteem, and was bullied as a kid. Your vibe is really positive and you make good and fresh content. I always share your videos on Facebook.

I have been in bed for two days with awful Prozac side effects. Your video popped up this morning.
I jumped out of bed, did a quick workout and then watched TV in the bath.
You help me so much man. I’ve watched so many of your videos I feel like I know you. Knowing that you experienced exactly what I am going through and got through it is exactly the reassurance that I need right now. HERO.

I took up something very soothing to me, crocheting. It makes you think about the project instead of ruminating thoughts. You grow hopeful as you witness the project take shape into something other then just the string of yarn that is was. Lastly, it gives me joy to gift the finished project to someone that I know who will really like it.

hearing "you're not alone" almost isn't enough for me anymore. I almost wish everyone didn't have similar problems so someone else could help or I could get better? When I realize I've made friends because we share depression/anxiety it bothers me because I start to notice patterns where we perpetually make each other depressed.
