Leashing the God of Death and dragging his ass through the time vortex might the most baller thing the Doctor has ever done
This episode sucked monkey nuts.
I know right? I don't know why people find this defeat unsatisfying, to be able to say the Doctor did this is 100x more badass than "The Oncoming Storm" which was already pretty badass
@Sidus666 Because it makes Sutekh, someone who has psychokinetic abilities and the power to mind control people on a whim, look like a moron for just letting it happen lol.
It's a very god-like story, which is the theme of the series
For example in Norse mythology Fenrir the wolf was bound by the other gods by iron rope

He's dead, Sutekh is dead! (AND WE MEAN IT THIS TIME!)
Until they need him back again
YEEEEES!
I wouldn't be so sure if I were you
@@piercelindenberg6842 It wouldn't be logical to bring him back again. He achieved his goal, he killed the universe. Also, because he tends to be stuck in place or unable to physically act himself anytime he appears, a big part of his popularity is his voice actor Gabriel Woolfe, who is 91 years old. Let's say they let him rest for three or five years, I doubt they'd ask Gabriel back then.
they'll probably bring him back with a new VA, and say that the vortex permanently altered him, and that he's stuck at the beginning of the universe
If there's one thing in this world that the Doctor always vows to protect from Evil Monsters, it's the TARDIS.

Also, the episode The Doctor's Wife is about the TARDIS
Not River, who is (was? what does "'til death do us part" mean for a time traveller?) literally and legally his wife (though the fact Rory didn't know what he was consenting too means he didn't actually consent but whatever)

So are we all gonna ignore the fact that Sutekh ripped the time vortex open?
I was just going to bring that up. I mean, what's the point of saving the universe when you've torn holes in time and space to do it?
Tbh I think that was just to visualise what Sutekh was doing bringing death to death destroying this time line idk bc the dust of death is still there so.
It's fiiiiiiiiine
@@dreaorealAh but the timeline wasn't "destroyed" the damage of Sutekh's dust of death was undone in the same timeline.
Are we going to ignore that the vortex looks just like in Matt Smith's era?
I do like that the Time Vortex is back to looking like the Matt Smith vortex from S5
Yeah i love how russel is bringing the time vortexes because the new one kinda has his old one vibes with a bit of matt smiths one, and now its showing how the tine vortex varies sometimes
Especially since we didn't get too many in-story clips of the time vortex during 11 and 12. When the tardis transitioned out of the vortex in one shot from Space Babies, I jumped out of my seat so excited
"Into the Vortex"
God, i love this line so much!!!
Almost as much as “Bring death to death, everywhere!” 😅
@@agoodboy2150 It reminded me of the line of the Bad wolf "I bring life"
@@dmitryandyk2731 That’s an Olympic level stretch imo… in that scene, rose absorbed the essence of the tardis matrix and says “How can I let go? I bring life.”
The doctor is trying to tell her that the whole of the vortex is running through her head and it’s killing her. She is misunderstanding what she’s doing because of her tiny human mind and creating a fixed point through Jack. The emotional beats and tone are completely different which is why one is taken seriously and one is a complete joke.
@@agoodboy2150 yeah, I think I made a bad comparison.
I've seen so many clips of all the times something has happened to the tardis now edited with sutekh lol
Its so funny frr
the threatening presence of Sutekh was absent in this episode, it should feel like the characters are completely powerless when they are in the room with him and he is in a position of absolute control. the impression he left on the audience in pyramids of mars was enough to last decades.
I disagree. The protagonists felt pretty damn powerless right up to the point when the Doctor LITERALLY took Sutekh for walkies.
@@TheBermudaMan yeah I was trying not to laugh when the doctor put a lead/leash on him and took him for walkies in the time vortex
Really? I was pretty underwhelmed with Pyramids. The most we saw from his power was him hurting Four with a green light.... As soon as Sutekh got free, Four trapped him in the tunnel. He barely did anything. All we heard was a lot of this and that about what he COULD do, but he barely did anything besides mind control some people and talk menacingly.
In Empire of Death he killed the universe in minutes. Idk how someone can claim that this version is weaker.
I don't think Sutekh really worked without his humanoid form.
@@Thief555WWJD I agree
One major issue, how the hell did Sutekh survive the TARDIS blowing up/being erased from time during Matt's run, Amy literally had to remember both the Doctor and TARDIS back into existence she had no knowledge of Sutekh. Also, why weren't the TARDIS' Cloisters ringing nonstop with something as evil as Sutekh attached to it?
By remembering the doctor and restoring his history, so was he.
Imagine if the Season 13 villain that latched itself onto the TARDIS was Mr Chase instead of Sutekh... "I bring the Krynoid's gift of plants!"
Dude. Chase ain't comin' back. Move on.
Nah. Imagine if it was Evil Dan instead…
All that dust is what results from him stealing everyone’s soup… Because no one needs soup more than him.

I would be worried, if the Tardis duplicated, then so did Sutekh.
HOL UP
Luckily it didn't. This episode proves that it's been the same TARDIS.
The 15th doctor's prize was duplicating the TARDIS, Sutekh is not a part of the TARDIS, he must've seen that 15 was carrying on with adventures so jumped onto the duplicated TARDIS.
@@BlakeGamer-qy6veIts not explicitly explained but considering the reason sutekh latched onto the tardis was to create his apostle of death across time and space he would go onto the 15th tardis as he was the only one who was travelling whilst 14th's tardus stayed on earth in the present.
@@ericleon7541Russell T. Davies said it would be shown to be the same TARDIS which is clearly why it has Sutekh and he talks like it's the same one.
Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that Sutekh, a supposed God, who flew on the outside of the Tardis through the time vortices all this time died to being attached to a rope and doing the exact same? I know Tardis shields at a certain range and all that stuff and him having a real body I think but still.
It’s absolutely ridiculous :)
Well, he only survived it the first time because he sort of merged with the Tardis and therefore had it as some sort of stabilizer.
This time he was clearly cut of (the snapping rope even visualises that). So here he didn't have anything to support him.
Edit: how tf did my autocorreckt turn "merged" into "Mercedes"?! 🤣
And the times the Tardis exploded, torn apart etc. Makes no sense for RTDs fan fiction 😂
@@tardis_treasures When has the TARDIS exploded and time not been reset?

@@Dolthraan exploding tardis literally causes a total event collapse of course it would
Sutekh was the big bad, the one that scared even the toy maker and all it took was a rope and and a drop off in the time vortex. I think we now have a solution for anything else that comes along in the future.
On rewatch I think it's pretty silly that his acolytes didn't blow the dust at Doctor and Ruby after they leashed him. They just walked very slowly lol

How is it possible for that little rope to hold such a large creature?
It’s an intelligent rope. Like the gloves.
Goblin technology, the Doctor learned it from the first episode
Okay but why did he just sit there and take it
Becouse of his ego and being too much sure of his victory?

Odd series. first we have RTD saying kids think the sonic screwdriver is a gun, and then he gives a 13 year old gun powered Segway?
And the sonic screwdriver looked nothing like a gun... It looked ike a wand or ... you know... like a screwdriver!
RTD has a weird compulsion to give theatrically embellished explanations for boring choices. Like Davros in the Children In Need special last year - he looks different cause it's the youngest we've ever seen him and they didn't wanna waste time on makeup for a comedy short... but then RTD has to give this wild, tortured rationale that it's offensive to have a bad guy in a wheelchair nowadays.
@@alastormedial Yet most people in wheelchairs were offended by taking Davros out of the chair, and the idea that all super villains are in wheelchairs was a myth because we can only think of three, But then he casts a Transvestite as super villain (God of music) yet he wants to be pro-trans ?? I don't really don't mind a pre-accident Davros it would be an interesting story to tell but he doesn't create the Dalaks till after the accident. The 15th Doctors theme absolutely crushes in this scene!
Fun Fact: They recycled music from the scene in Time of the Doctor where 11 receives a new regeneration cycle. Not sure if anyone else caught that lol

Did they? cool.
Another version of that theme was also used when the 10th Doctor runs to save River in the library, right after he says „One last run“.
Actually, that's just a part of The Doctor's Theme which is a theme that has been used since the previous reboot (2005) in many different episodes, mainly during Eccleston's and Tennant's (first) era, although the music has been used in a couple 11, 12, and 13 episodes aswell! :)
@@DanteMinecraftthat section of the Doctor's Theme was only added in Series 4, so not for Ecclestone. ;p

Is it just me or does Sutekh resemble one of those Spooky Island monsters from Scooby Doo when he's in the Time Vortex
A brilliant way to incorporate fifteen's theme and a great way to defeat Sutekh. He made a god into a dog. 😆
Despite the flaws of the episode, I still really enjoyed it.
Sutekh got Dutch ridden ( The thing where the Cowboys drag their opponents across the floor by horse.)across the time vortex. What a way to go

Ncuti is everything I've hoped for out of a Doctor. He's happy, fun, positive, acknowledges and embraces his emotions.
The god of death being flung around on that rope in the vortex will always be iconic. 😂
As per usual Murray Gold crushed it! He’s not allowed to leave ever again!

The Doctor gimmicked the leash with Goblin technology (like the Goblin ship's ropes from 1st episode)..how that works I don't know; reversed the polarity of the fibers maybe ?
They killed him in the lamest way. Such a waste. His design and demeanour was great. One episode wasn't enough to make sutekh a good villain.
Is this the god of death that can turn into smoke?
Why'd they make Sutekh a - "dog"? I knew he and his race had an long snout resembling a K-9 like look but he's just a big dog there.
Personal Sutekh theory: He latched on to the TARDIS when Sarah Jane saw his image in Pyramids of Mars. The TARDIS was traveling backwards in time, so when The 4th Doctor sent Sutekh forward he actually crossed his own time stream. OAN: I hope some classic worlds come back..Logopolis, Traken, Gallifrey, and others.
Ah yes,the Godoy death defeated by a whistle and some rope.
1:31 ~ THAT'S WHAT I CALL WALKING THE DOG! 🐕 🤣
I literally thought that as well
So how is it that the TARDIS was able to enter the Time vortex with the doors open? In the husbands of River Song there was a point where the TARDIS was unable to take off when Hydroflax's head was in the TARDIS and robot body outside the TARDIS registered him as a lifeform both inside and outside the TARDIS which prevented the door from properly engaging and couldn't "seal the real time envelope" and thus couldn't take off. Here the TARDIS is able to take off into the Vortex with the doors wide open.
Boy I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder
I don't think it matters that the doors are open? This isn't like hydroflax where his body is split in and out of the TARDIS.
@@mastersalamander3048 Youre right about this not being a Hydroflax situation, but I'm pretty sure the Tardis has to remain 'sealed' to travel through time.
That aside, theres no way that rope shouldve been able to hold Sutehk, or the Doctor been able to drag said rope into the Tardis.
I was genuinely hoping for a more clever approach to his defeat. The 'Death killing Death' was neat but they shouldve done that instead of saying it. Having his own power turned on him wouldve been a great way to weaken him, then send him into the Time Vortex.
@mastersalamander3048 The highlight here is the effects of the door not engaging properly. Not being able to "seal the real time envelope" which resulted in the engines of the TARDIS interfering with themselves.
If the doors are purposely left open, then they couldn't be considered engaged now, could they? Therefore, the same result should happen.
3:51 bring death to death everywhere….. yeaaahhh that definitely doesn’t sound like if the writer just couldn’t get creative enough to make an actual good speech or a very decent writing.

Theory: when the Doctor said: “We bring life to the whole flipping universe”, did Sutekh somehow restore life and the planets that were affected by the Flux and not just Sutekh’s Empire of Death? Or was it just the ones that were just affected by Sutekh?
Wait, she didn't stab him or anything...his collar just had a latch? He's the God of Death, evolved after centuries hitching through the time stream, and he's just wearing a dog collar?
I have a theory, and I'm probably wrong. All the instances where "how could sutek survived when the tardis did this or that?..."
What if when the 4th doctor banished sutek to the end of time... then when 12 met "me" at the end of time THAT'S when sutek latched onto the tardis and was only on the tardis since then.
Also the moments when the doctor was on top of the tardis it was in space, so sutek could have been under it

Another instance of Dr Who plot armor. What do I mean by that? Pay attention to how long Sutek just SITS THERE doing nothing but roaring while Ruby attaches a leash to him and runs to the other end of the room while the Doctor is whistling repeatedly. Cosmic powers aside, he could have bit Ruby’s head clean off the moment she went to attach the leash to him!
This is like Daleks sitting around talking and yelling “EXTERMINATE” while they let the Doctor and his companions do and say whatever they want when they could have zapped them to death countless times throughout the series!
The Doctor is only able to beat bad guys because they sit around letting him talk and do things without interference while they look menacing. Like paper tigers.

Could this potentially mean that Gallifrey is alive again?
if they retcon the master destroying gallifrey then yeah they could
@zenderman4913 I didn't say that. I meant they could resurrect everyone the Master killed. Sure some of them became cybermasters but not all. He only had a few.
@@thegeekyskunkgamer yeah I was only saying that as an example but I do agree with what you mean
@@zenderman4913 it'd be kind of nice to have Gallifrey back again. I've missed seeing the Citadel

At this point i said what Burt Gummer said in Tremors 3 before his house went boom
I honestly want to know from everyone in the comments who is unsatisfied with sutekh being defeated in this way:
What would be a better way of doing it? What is a more realistic and satisfying ending for Sutekh? How SHOULD the Doctor have killed him?
Everyone I see complaining about the solution doesn't give a better one...
They don't have a better one, but they want to screech and wail and cry and pretend like DW has never ever ever had weird ways of dealing with villains, or ridiculous solutions to problems, or so on and so forth. That, or they want to jerk it to Moffat-senpai and cry that the show isn't in that ridiculous phase anymore. They're frankly pathetic.
It's not the audiences job to write the episodes, "well let's see you do better" is just a pathetic excuse for people being shit not a defense
They should have taken a sponsor for that bungee rope.
