I’m so excited to see this! I’m in 11th grade and I want to become a children’s librarian at either a public or school library and it’s nice to see a girl w lashes and nails lol😂 I love makeup and glam and I’m always anxious to get dolled up when I volunteer at my library cuz I never rlly see anyone like that at my local libraries
I just came across your videos because I am going to be a library aide this upcoming school year and I’m not really sure what exactly to expect but your vlogs have been so insightful ! I will say they had you doing a LOT, besides being the school librarian. Your work ethic and dedication is inspiring !
I just found this video and I loved every second of it. Im currently in school to become an elementary school librarian and this was so helpful. All videos I find are very outdated but you were so refreshing and honest about the job!
I’m currently a nursing major wanting to go into Pediatrics but am also intrigued with literary studies. I’m so happy to have found your channel (: I’m considering this career for sure
I’m also a school librarian so i was doing research for inspiration for how to do my own vlogs and I fell in love with this video and your personality !!!! :)
I’m not sure if you use destiny or not, but I removed all library fines for the students when I started! I’m a new librarian in 2 elementary schools and I just… waived the fees! Not sure about your district, but i really think that’s up to you (at least in mine)! Which i love haha! 6 year olds shouldn’t have to pay 20 bucks in fines - they’re babies!! But no - I LOVED watching this video! Your library is adorable, and so cozy-looking. It’s so awesome to see how another librarian manages things. Definitely comin’ back for more videos :)
Thank you!! In the beginning of the year, I wasn’t fully certified and didn’t have the authority to waive the fees and allow check out. But now I do! And yes we use destiny as well
@@LilianShekinah Ahh awesome! I'm so glad you are fully certified now!! I've got over a year left, but i just... waived the fees haha! not sure if i wasn't supposed to uh oh haha!
I just found your channel and It's amazing to see another school librairian. I'm also a school librarian in Canada. It's interesting to see your tasks. It's very different from what I do as a school librarian in Canada. Also, your library looks so nice, i'm jealous!!!!
Thank you! I really try to make the library inviting and If you don't mind me asking: what do your tasks include? I feel that I have alot to do because it's just me and I am on a fixed schedule.
I am a grade 10 in high school right now and I am really considering this for my future occupation! Could you maybe do a video of pros and cons? This was really helpful :) Do you think you get paid well for the type of work?
I love to see it!! Kudos to you for looking into your career at an early age. I think I covered the different pros and cons and salary in depth in another video. I also go into the requirements for different types of librarians. I would say that I get paid pretty well in my state/city(TX), but other states might not have the same salary and cost of living. You have to research and choose to go where the jobs are.
I’ll be going from teaching 4th grade to the school library next year. I was the aid in the library for a few years, so I’m familiar with it. But I’m so nervous about the standards. HELP!!!!!
Hi I work at a public library right now as a full time clerk I’m thinking about moving up to library assistant and maybe going back to school to get my masters degree in library science I work for Carnegie library of Pittsburgh
No problem!! You need a standard MLIS & school librarian certificate (must have 2 years teaching and standard teaching license to qualify of school librarian certification in my state)
I start as the librarian at my current school at the end of July. Do you have any suggestions of things that I can do to prepare while I have some free time over summer break?
Get To know you Library Handbook!! It's a huge lifesaver. You need to look for records (weeded, and past purchases and inventories so that you can assess your library collection beforehand). Get a Beginning of the Year survey ready for patrons. You can get circulation forms prepped, just incase you have to sign materials out to teachers. You could also get decor ready for your library as well. If you are starting in July, I assume you won't have kids?
I am not going to lie. It is not a dream job per se here(USA) either, we do not have a substantial amount of graduates. Also those who have the job are usually the last to retire. But I totally understand why! I would highly recommend
@@LilianShekinah same here 😁 i mean compared with the mainstream majors (like economics, psychology, engineering, etc) LIS graduates and job opportunities are not as many as theirs. but if I can choose I'd rather be a librarian in college than in public school, and if I may choose I'd rather be a lecturer than a librarian 😆

DO YOU! Do not be intimidated. You can be cute and still be taken seriously. Trust.

The standards will be assigned based on you school's/district's plan for the year, or at least that's how it is where I am.

Thank you so much!! Go for it! Your experience will give you a leg up as well.
What program do you need to become a school librarian? Thank you for showing us around

What are your stations like?
Depends on what the learning outcome is for the week but includes: writing/puzzle, word search, coding/online learning platforms, makerspace/legos
Do the library aides also need a degree?
Not in my state.
Hi do you get in debt while getting your masters degree for school librarian??
You can choose to finance your degree, or yes, you can get loans. It is entirely up to you.
idk why the profession of school librarian especially in public school is not a dream job in my country, including me as MLIS graduate
