- There are a ton of listings on eBay with heavy discounted Ray Ban sunglasses, I purchased a pair from an authorized retailer (Sunglass Hut) and another pair from eBay. Let's look at the differences.

Because the lens quality is a huge difference and you know they really protect your eyes.
The fake ones are not as high quality but yes they look similar.
The real ones the frame is actually well built compared to other fake. I have original and fake. And the problem is you are probably over paying for a fake. If the fakes are cheap then yeah you don’t think much of it. But when fake cost only a fraction less like 35% cheaper, it makes it hard to differentiate from original and fake because sellers tend to use the same disclaimer stating they sort from authorised retailers which is false.

And I like to further add, the fake ones nowadays cost almost the same as the original, take a look at EBay and you can see heaps pointing that their brand new are fakes.
The original is about $30-50 more. The argument is no longer about why you should get original but more so that you don’t get cheated buying fakes at original price point.

5 dollar sunglasses have the necessary UV protection nowadays.
It is the quality frame that is expensive to build.
I just did the same thing with the Ray-Ban Justin. I bought a pair on eBay for $70, and a pair from Ray-Ban's online store for $168. To be honest, I couldn't tell them apart, not in fit or quality. The slight differences in the box were slightly noticeable, but some of those small things could also be attributed to manufacturer changes. I'm not saying the eBay ones are genuine, but that the difference is incredibly small. I'm keeping both pairs.
Go to the ray-bans store and have them authenticate them.

The case on fakes usually have a red lining , but those in the video, if counterfeit, look like genuine RBs, the case looks right and so do the glasses- i'm not convinced they're fakes, they're probably real Ray Bans!
Thanks for the video. It would have been helpful to know the difference in how well do the glasses actually perform. Like are the fakes stiffer or looser? Are they the same level of visual clarity? Do they weigh the same? All I got was a couple points about the etching. And a lot about the packaging and the marketing insert.
The point of the video was to spot a fake, you need a special machine to test the quality of the lenses and if they're UV coated, and you need a chemist to test the composition of the metal, it could be lead based. To be clear, even if they're cheaper it still doesn't justify that price, this cost $5 to make in China.
The silicone pads on a real sunglasses have "rb" tag inside of them.

So recently (July 2019) I go to Sunglass Hut (authorized Ray Bay dealer owned by Luxxotica) and I now notice on the new RB3025 aviator frames is the inscription on the top of the frame "Ray Ban - Made In Italy". This was not on their previously and I believe this was recently added to authenticate from counterfeits. However the "fakes" will eventually have this engraving as well on them. It's just a matter of time.

I bought a Clubmaster from ebay for $70 from a seller with 100% positive feedback. I own 5 other styles of ray bans from the official retailers: sunglass hut, nordstrom. I cannot see any sign of a knockoff in comparison to my other glasses & other youtube fake reviews, thought this video really made me worry if they are real after all, since the fake one is so close... Now I am in doubt whether to return them or keep.

The products that i am getting are 1 : 1 Quality which is original but made by another factory , the one you got from Ebay is AAA which is high copy . I have exactly the one just like original you got from sunglasses hut with same sticker yellow/white , even if you scan it , it will show you the original model , same original box with 100% original color , RB on the same place Guranteed . I Sold many to sunglasses hut people , trust me , there is lot of shit going on underground and that's why i am soon going to do something that nobody know just waiting for the right time .

I just got a weird brand of aviators. They're not "fake" but they're not a prestigious brand like Ray Ban... They're polarized, have a deep dark colour and are well made. Really really happy I didn't save up for months and waste my money on the "better" pair. Even took them out skateboarding today and they work perfectly. Really deep rich colours that block out the glare. So happy with them.

How about the actual quality? I mean if they’re both made from the same quality materials then what’s the difference? A lot of these so called “super fakes” are made on site by the same factory workers who moonlight and make these “fakes” without authorization using the same materials and equipment. Only thing that would be different is a non registered serial number and maybe the placement of the logo. But who cares? In this case they would be basically the same ray bans, only cheaper.
Qnicles If it was just the frame I’d say go for it (even though the wrong metal alloy could cause allergies on some people) but the lens being counterfeit don’t protect the eyes and have no UV coating. I know of factories selling products under the table but this is not the case, the metal is a slight different color and the lens angle is different. So they’re being manufactured with different molds.
Qnicles, yeah I agree with you and I was told something similar about these so called "fakes" as well. They are made from the same materials and process of the "real" ones. So really the only difference between the "real" and "fake" are the overall quality and craftsmanship of each pair of sunglasses. The most important thing to really test them for is the UV protection which can be done by either taking them to an optical shop that has a scanner that can test for UV protection or you can get a handheld UV detector online and test them yourself in direct sunlight. My personal favorite Ray Ban's Aviators are the vintage made ones when the company was still Bausch & Lomb. Current Ray Ban's are owned and made by Luxottica although based in Italy, however makes a lot of their glasses in China. I was also told that the parts of the sunglasses are "made in China" then shipped back to Italy to be assembled and therefore can have the "Made in Italy" logo on them for that reason.
The Luxottica monopoly had a dispute with Oakley, refused to sell their product, and bought this crushed company for cheap. Luxottica sets eye wear as a luxury product and decides how expensive they are.

Really no point to spot the differences of a genuine and a counterfeit side by side, there are more than one factory which produce so called "fake" Ray Ban, moreover, there are different grades in the world of counterfeits.

GiuseppeM I would, I have bought a few pairs some second hand but original and one from sunglasses hut like you did.
The original text on the arms are actually quite distinct and has specific font for words like polarized. The fake ones are good but print is not as sharp and thicker.
The case also is properly made and proper printed and should not have fudge on the logo on case.
The leaflet mainly from sunglasses hut comes mostly with Rayban.com and the one you have is not as common.

Since most people loose or break there sunglasses I would go with the fake pair you spend less then half the price and if you get a season out of them you made out like a thief....

They may actually not be fake. Just made to lower standards probably for a different market regin. That's why you got them cheaper on ebay. The seller may actually be selling legitimate ray bans as an on seller. But never intended for your market. Sometimes the stuff made in China is made under license in a different factory and may to a lower standard for a particular market. Were people just can't afford to pay the same as they do say in the US. For example Ryiobi tools in Japan and south Africa are high end. But in the US The UK and Australia there amed at the home owner and not the professional like Makita is for example.
Buying shades I think is in general iffy. Why? If you're from Canada...order from Oakley Canada...a Custom pair of shades and they make a mistake and you want to return it. They will email you a Canada Post Return PDF...the return address it similar to the listed Oakley Canada location...but the place it's sent to is "XYZ Optics". Why isn't it called "Oakley Canada"? Wh wouldn't the product be sent there? And there's a disclaimer on the website...said Custom sunglasses are not returnable.
Ray-Ban Canada's website--I know they make "Asian Fit" versions of the New Wayferer in non-polarized and polarized 58mm size...Yet, if you do a search on the CDN RB website you can't find it. WHY?

Still I ordered a pair of RB New Wayferer, 58mm, non-polarized, Asian Fit from www.amazon.ca...at least www.amazon.ca is reputable. Safe place to buy from. Should be here by Friday.
They both might be fake. When you hold a real pair next to a fake one, you can tell differences in quality, finishing, weight, lens clarity. If you just see differences in logo placements and shades of colors or font size, that doesn't say much, that doesn't show any better quality on the "real" ones :/
And BTW, "authorized resellers" (listed on RayBan site) also sell fake RayBans, just got a pair, that is why I am on these videos :(

In other words, with chinese ones you get glasses worth a few dollars and you pay a few dollars, with real ones, you get glasses worth a few dollars, but pay hundreds. They 2 pairs are identicle in every way build wise and manufacture cost wise also about the same, and the fake ones have better lenses, the real ones are too light imo. Luxotica own ray bans, originally dollar store sunglasses which they bought out and upped the price without adding much to the value or build. Sure, they have glass lenses in some models now, but that glass is a few dollars to produce not hundreds. ALL sunglasses from ALL brands (most of which are owned by luxotica) are worth a few dollars and sold to gullible people who pay hundreds for label. Plastic is plastic, metal is metal, nothing pushes the price up to what they charge other than a label, simple as that. Unless they start using real gold or silver, stick with cheap or no brand glasses or fakes, who cares if the print on the instructions which will go in the bin is a slightly diff shade lol.

marko julije I doubt fake ones offer any protection and this is the real issue, these are sunglasses and could damage your eyes. Only a machine could verify the lenses.
Get yaself a pair of Maui Jim's, Persol's or Serengeti's. Then not only will you have a pair of more unique and superior sunglasses, but you won't need to worry about them being fake :-))
