    I’d love to see a video of it being set up and taken down as it sounds like it’s easier than the prototype was.

      Me too! I saw Tim from OK4WD closing up the prototype. At that time, he had to carry a ladder with him. So, for him to say they got everything worked out means they listened to OK4WD feed back. If I had to take a guess I would think it's less or equal time to a square pop tent. With the wedge, of course, still the fastest and easiest with one person. That's just a guess I can't truly speak from any person experience. I know our friends went with the ModCAP wedge for speed and easy.
      The Family is definitely amazing, innovative, and a first of its kind in the industry.

      We have been using an iKamper and the ladder attached to it is really the biggest pain when closing it up. Well that and the lack of space for bedding. We are hoping this is easier than an iKamper but recognize it’s going to be more a bit more involved than the clam.

      @FindingWilderness We started out with a CVT RTT and loved the space. Then switched to the GFC Go Fast Camper (got a good deal 2nd hand and I was tired of our gear being in the elements. Lots of other options to consider then a GFC unless you find a deal on a used one), which really didn't have much room for bedding. Now I have a HEST bedding, and there is definitely no room now. Honestly, a good night sleep is worth more to me than keeping all my sleeping stuff up top. Once you switch to a canopy camper, really, it's so easy to grab everything from the lower bed and just toss it up.
      What type of truck do you have? The Alu-Cab is definitely great for full-size trucks based on its weight. 550 lbs -600+ lbs before any options. Lots of choices on the market. I've been really grooving on the Tune M1 400 lbs. But I do prefer the speed of a wedge camper set up and also that I can point it into the wind. Plus, get the most out of my solar on the roof. Bottom line, there is no perfect camper. 🤣

      @@OutOfOfficeCamping yes, true no perfect camper. We bought a Tundra with a Crewmax and a 6.5 ft bed. We’ve already put a down payment for the preorder for the family Modcap. We’ve got 4 people most of the time and so even though I know some people do a sleeping platform underneath it wasn’t something we were willing to deal with to get the clam. We’ve been adventuring in a 4Runner, great machine but we’ve maxed it out. Just not meant for 4 people and all the gear even being pretty minimalist. I’ll be curious to see how the stock mats are. We did the Exped in the iKamper and they were super comfortable but didn’t like the set up time. I hear HEST is going to have options for the Family Modcap so would definitely go that route if the stock mats aren’t great.

      @FindingWilderness That's the perfect setup for the Tundra! Will OK4WD be doing your installation? If so, please be sure to let Tim know you checked out our video he'sbeen so great to work with and film. Jim, the owner, and the full team are extremely passionate about what they do day in and day out.
      We do have a discount code in our description for HEST and many other products we truly believe in. Just be careful because their stuff is so amazing it's hard to stop with just one thing. I have a seat cushion, synthetic comforter, pillow large, the GFC Dually Plateform 50 matress system, and Jade infused pillow case. My wife has a medium pillow and the Foamy for her Nissan Xterra. Fun stuff and the best night sleep hands down!
      Congratulations on your purchase of the Family. That's going to be a great adventure rig to make some incredible memories! Thank you for making the time to respond and share.
      Can I ask what other campers you consider?
      What made you choose to go with the Family?
      Thank you for your time. 😊

    I see this being a wonderful solution for a full size pickup, but at 5-600 lbs it’s going to quickly eat into most mid size and half ton pickup payloads.

      @OutOfOfficeCamping  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would agree with you on both points! It doesn't leave much room for a buildout on a mid-size. I've seen a few mid-size with the new Goose Gear, which is beautiful, but it's a lot of metal pieces that just add up to even more weight before you even start building out your systems. Cooler, water, powerstation/battery, awnings. Before you know it, you're complete over weight now, having to do suspension mods and air bags. This is something I've really spent a great deal of time on with my build out on my Ford Ranger. My buddy calls me a weight weenie. 🤣
      Thank you for commenting and watching.
      Happy Camping!

    Great to see this! Is there an option for an Alu-Cab table mount? Also, it'd be great to see how this production version opens and closes

    • @OutOfOfficeCamping
      @OutOfOfficeCamping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe just the traditional models, the table is stored under the front overhang outside. This is also an optional add-on.
      Totally.is amazing. What I don't think people understand is that this is a truck cap, which you can add a wedge or family tent option using a fit kit. Not 3 different products. One product that can be made into any of the above. This is going to be great for the used market. Say you own a cap you can then just buy the tent later plus the fitment kit. Brilliant! Yes, I would have liked to see how this model closes. Our friends have the new ModCAP wedge, which we will film on a Gladiator + 40's super sexy rig.

    Awesome video thanks for the info. You mentioned a bracket for the shower cube being possible on this set up ? Can you give me more information on that and where exactly the placement for the shower cube would be ?

      Thank you! I'm afraid I can't answer that since I don't know. You'd be best to drop OK4WD a quick email. I'm sure they'll get you the answers you're looking for. Good folks there!

    What does it weigh?

    • @OutOfOfficeCamping
      @OutOfOfficeCamping  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe Tim mentioned that in the earlier video, we did link in the video. According to Alu-Cabs website, based on the ModCAP, Family weight ranges from 560-620lbs based on the configuration of your truck. Before any options. The wedge is actually less weight, and the original Alu-Cab is even lighter at around 500 lbs.
      What kind of truck do you have?
      I believe the Alu-Cab is a perfect fit for a full-size pickup. With as many options as they offer hard not to get carried away. 🙂
      Super nice campers and very well built!

      @OutOfOfficeCamping I have a 2ng gen tundra. Great truck, but Achilles' heel is payload. I want to have a light camper and still be able to tow a boat with a tongue weight of 500ish pounds. Sticker on the truck door says 1183.

    • @OutOfOfficeCamping
      @OutOfOfficeCamping  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @charliefoster5862 Hey Charlie, Sounds like a Jeep Gladiator payload, which is 1200 lbs. Most current wedge camper models on the market come in around 375 lbs average. The GFC Go Fast Camper by far hands down is the lightest at 273 lbs with all window options. That's what I have on my Ford Ranger. I actually put in on my pallet scale, so I know exactly what the weight is. Not what someone is telling me. I always see Tacoma GFC pop up For Sale on GFC's forum. Prices for a used V2 running around $6000‐$8000 with options.
      Definitely lots of great choices and best to go with something that fits your needs based on use case. Every model has pros and cons.
      Thanks for checking out our channel! Please feel free to email (on our website) me directly if you would like any additional feedback or suggestions. I pride myself on keeping up with the market.
      Also note that I have many other models which I've done tours here on our channel. Check them out if you like.

      What is ball park price as shown

    • @OutOfOfficeCamping
      @OutOfOfficeCamping  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Oldandontheroad I have no idea. I'd suggest you take a look at their website. I believe they start at $12,500 for a mid-size no options or labor to install. Seems like post folks I've talked to with options are in the $20,000 Ranger. Most wedge campers range as little as $8,000 but on average are typically in the $14,000 price for most.
      Happy Camping!
