    Pro tip: use CCI mini mag and the higher grain the better. Never had an issue while using this ammo and with regular cleaning of the gun

    I’ve had my Walther ppk/s .22 for 6500 rounds. I’ve found that it likes CCI mini mags target copper coated because they have a more consistent and accurate fill of propellant. It will jam 1% of these cartridges, and after 200 rounds will jam sometimes 2-3%. It needs to be well cleaned and lubricated at 400 rounds which is fairly easy to do. I had to replace the main recoil spring at 4500 rounds, bought from Walther Arms. I highly recommend this firearm if you think my observations are reasonable. Bought it for $400 in 2022.

    22 bullets can tumble and fragment. Hitting soft tissue,it can cause severe tissue damage. A 40 grain 22 LR's muzzle velocity runs between 1080 fps, and 1280. A CCO Stinger 32 gr. 22 lR 1,640 fps.
    In the 80's I observed the 'bigger' is better. However, it doesn't take much to nick an artery. Ballistic Gel is not the same as a human encumbered with the variables of panic, fear. The mentality of facing a person who may just kill you requires steely nerves. A Pro who faces a gun, may stay cool, but I have seen what happens to regular people who bought a gun for self-defense, then unexpectedly the possibility of imminent death is facing them. So I wonder if those who decry the 22 as weak and ineffective, who are smug into the 'bigger is better notion; what do they think when facing a gunman with a 22:
    "Oh, it is only a 22, I'm a badass, and can handle it." I say that is a candidate for a dead man walking; club T-shirt. I've heard that talk several times here.
    A 40-grain bullet brings a muzzle velocity between 1,080 and 1,280. 22 bullets can tumble and fragment. Hitting soft tissue,it can cause severe tissue damage. A 40 grain 22 LR's muzzle velocity runs between 1080 fps, and 1280. A CCO Stinger 32 gr. 22 lR 1,640 fps.

    As compelling as the ballistic gel is, it is not a human body. Smashing into bone, blood, and arteries even with a 22 can kill. Actually, the 22 has killed more people than any other gun

    .22 LR HP is effective against large dog breeds like GSD, pitbull, rottweilers etc.? or need 60 grain heavy .22 round for such breeds?

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, not an area in which I have any expertise. In general, however, I would think that shot placement and penetration would be key. Personally, if I had to choose between a Walther PPK/S 22 and a good pepper spray like the Kimber Pepper Blaster ($40), I'd go with the Pepper Blaster when dealing with possibly someone's dog. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on TH-cam.

    Just got rid of my PPKS 22 after ammo failing to feed, failing to eject, and failing to fire. Great looking gun and it felt great, but the minuses outweighed the only plus's which was looks and feel. It wasn't for a lack of trying, with at least 500 plus rounds of ammo and only CCI and Normas not having issues. So, I picked up an M&P 22 with the trade in, and for sure it can't be worse than that Walther.

    Re price: I very recently bought one of the nickel plated PPK/S 22 L.R. for $279 at a local big name hunting sports outfitter. Order online and it was shipped to the store for pickup. Only one to a customer. Duh. It’s for my wife’s Christmas present. She’s always wanted one. Found some G10 Ivory grips for it too. It looks just right.

    I’d rather have a pistol that can shoot subsonic reliably. Did you ever address the type of ammo that feeds reliably?

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. Sorry, I haven't been able to get my hands on subsonic ammo that's recommended like Federal Premium’s American Eagle Rimfire Suppressor load, CCI Subsonic .22 LR or the Winchester’s Super Suppressed load all of which just seem to sell out in my area. These are the ones I'd try out since I've noticed that the Walther PPK/S 22 does not like some of the cheaper ammo I've used when the suppressor is attached.

    • @Evenflo76
      @Evenflo76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You shouldn’t need subsonic with such a short barrel. 22lr standard velocity ammo will not reach supersonic velocity in a pistol under 5”. Personally, I save subsonic for the rifle.

    I wish they would make this in a true PPK, or as the PP - I don't like the S . . .even more I wish Walther would make the TPH again . . .I've owned several Walthers - at least 8 of them . . . the TPH is the one I wish I had never sold.

    I had always heard that the "K" stood for "kriminal" for undercover work.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be. As I understand, "kriminal" is indeed the connection and it refers to "detective" in translation which could be the same as undercover, as you suggest. Thanks for the comment.

    • @praeceptor
      @praeceptor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mick Mac's reference is on spot. To quote the Wikipedia article on "Kriminalpolizei": "(...) in the Federal Republic of Germany, the state police (Landespolizei) perform the majority of investigations. Its Criminal Investigation Department is known as the Kriminalpolizei or more colloquially, the Kripo."
      But since most of the undercover work is done by Kripo detectives your interpretation is also covered.
