    New to the sport and your content has been very helpful on the learning curve.
    I like the quick adjustability of the cotton sling vs the hard leather version. For a newbie getting comfortable quick is helpful in reducing stress and a leather slug seeps to take more time. What brand of sling do you use, does it come with hardware and what is the overall length?

      Over the years I have gotten my slings from a variety of sources. Most recently I purchased a couple from AmmoGarand. I don't think web slings are any particular brand. They usually come with the hardware. I think the length is pretty standard.

    Have you tried using the sling's hook to attach to the sewn in end piece to make your loop? I have a lot less wear and tear on the sling this way. The end piece has sharp corners that cut into the sling. The hook doesn't.

      I would have to see the configuration that you are describing. I sometimes run some sandpaper over the buckle to deburr it. These slings are cheap enough that they can be considered disposable and replaced each year.

      @@konrad1853 It's really easy. I can't attach a picture, so the easiest way to explain would be to leave the end hardware empty of any loops through it. Slide the sling's hook, that also attaches to the rifle, and attach it to the end piece instead. The loop forms automatically. Once you get that just face the pieces so they don't dig into your arm and you're set.

    Not a sling question, but what ear protection are you using? I’m looking to get rid of the bulky headphone style.

      I use custom-molded ear plugs. Impressions are taken by an audiologist and sent out for molding.

    Have you noticed a significant difference between the cotton and nylon web slings? Is there any physical difference between the sling issued for the M1 Garand, for the M14, and for the M16?
    I used one of these slings in boot camp, but only for drill and hikes; a vickers sling for shooting was used for shooting and is standard issue now.
    Where do you find good ones?
    What do you think of the "silent sling"?
    And finally, do you think the vickers sling will ever be accepted in hi-power matches? It is now the standard issue sling in the USMC, after all, and that seems to be what makes something allowed in hi-power matches or not. Have you ever seen somebody use an ACOG in hi power?

    • @konrad1853

      I've never heard of a vickers sling before. I don't know how to use one for highpower so I can't tell if they would provide any advantage for competitive shooting. Match rifle shooters can use any sling they want but they don't use the vickers so that might be telling.

      @@konrad1853 It's just a particular quick-adjustable 2 point sling.
      Lets you keep the rifle wrapped around you at all times, able to loosen it enough instantly to bayonet people, or tighten it enough to make a very careful shot. Are quick adjust two points popular amongst match shooters?
      If they're completely absent when any sling can be used, I'd be a little surprised. Do those guys just use the seat belt sling and the leather sling?

    • @konrad1853

      Highpower competition is a bit different than many other shooting disciplines that rely on rapid changes to positions and changing targets. Each stage has a preparation period where you set up yourself and your equipment. So quick changes to the sling aren't as important as you might think.
      The focus is more on executing the fundamentals of marksmanship within the environment that the day provides. The course of fire is common from tournament to tournament so there isn't the need for drastic adaptability.

      Back when they had the A4 rifles, you had the "parade"/web sling with you to qualify. Every other time, you would use the silent sling instead as it would be easier to move around. I never seen anyone use the web sling outside of the quals. I never used the vickers sling myself. In theory, you should be able to use any sling as a web sling. However, the problem is generally that it is too long so you have to shorten it down and put it on the front and rear sling points. Most of the time the sling is long, and has two points of contacts on the side so you can keep it on your body and quickly deploy. It sort of defeats the purpose of the sling when you shorten it like a web sling. Overall it's probably best to get a web sling and keep it handy for events like these but use the vickers sling everywhere else. The web sling is usually

      @@Dan-di9jd Yeah, I'm going to get all the types of issued slings, for history even if I don't practically use them. I was just wondering if anybody had done it at CMP. Regardless of effectiveness, I'm going to do vickers sling+ TA31 ACOG at a hi power match some time just because those are what I learned to shoot on. My service rifle. : D
      I saw the web sling in boot camp, we used it before we got our grass week/range rifles. It's cool to see the changes over time. The silent sling angers me in a weird way. So minimal that I genuinely thought it was random trash people just gave away with rifles... but some people are still issued it. An absurdity in the present year, I feel. There's far more serious issues with anything in the world, though, not a big deal.
      I plan on taking some of my buddies to Talladega's CMP range : )

    What are the advantages and disadvantage of using a leather sling vs these nylon slings?

    • @konrad1853
      @konrad1853  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The preferred web sling for highpower is cotton, not nylon. Both leather and web slings can be used to shoot good scores as long as they are used properly. Take a look at my sling video to see the reasons I prefer the web sling nowadays.

      @@konrad1853 thank you. Sorry I was thinking those were nylon slings. I didn't know they were cotton. I started on a leather sling with my Garand and still use that to this day. I have 2 of the cotton slings but never tried them. Maybe I should?
      Thanks again sir!

    Konrad,
    I have seen in previous vids you had marked your web sling for adjustments. What are you using for a reference point for marking length positions? I haven't figured out your system. Thanks in advance.

    • @konrad1853
      @konrad1853  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually get into position with the rifle and note the approximate placement of the end of the sling. That will be about the middle of the range (setting #4 or #5) so I have adjustment to loosen or tighten.

      I used to buy several at a time on commercial row at Camp Perry. They are available from several online vendors nowadays, including the CMP.
