Algunos no estudiábamos, no había tiempo. Same here, 9 years old, back in the days, and falling for Lani. Little boys know perfectly well, and still know how to distinguish the real thing from fake! And her appearance and voice knew how to wash away trouble when life happened to be tough at times.
I LOVED Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66, as a young 13 year old, and still do now. I had to have each new record album every year, and would get them for Christmas and my birthday. When a concert was announced, my mom went on the first day and got tickets on the front row for me, my twin sister, my brother, my Aunt Coco and herself. It was the first time having front row seats, and the concert was a Dream! Lani Hall and Karen Phillips wore Mod Shift dresses in Shocking Pink and Bright Orange, all covered in sparkling sequins. They were So Beautiful, and l used their beauty to sneak up onto the stage, when the concert was over. The Security guard was transfixed on the ladies as they took their bows, that l was able to sneak in on the stair where he stood, and go through a fabric curtain. I spoke with Sergio, told him how much l loved his music and that l had All of his albums. He gave me his autograph and also introduced me to Lani and Karen and the band. They were all So very nice, and All gave me their autographs. I then heard my Mom trying to explain that l was backstage, but he didn't believe her. "Lady, no one Ever gets past me!" Then l said, Mom l'm back here, he comes to grab me, but Sergio told him it was Alright, Please let them all pass!" So, all of my family got to meet and speak with them all! It was night l will Never forget, mainly because they all were so Sincerely nice! Saw Lani and Herb Alpert last year in concert. She sings as beautifully as ever! She is married to Herb Alpert. Sergio Mendes is God's gift to the World, with his wonderful music!

I saw Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 in October 1967. I was on leave prior to shipping out for my first tour in Vietnam. My fiancé was a graduate student at the University of Texas and got front row tickets for us. Best show I have ever seen. Lisa worked for the University and got us backstage after the show. We stood and talked with Lani Hall for around 15 minutes. Lani had two cokes and chewed on her straw. When she left to go, she put her drink down and I pulled the straw and put it in my pocket. I carried that straw through most of two tours as a good luck charm.

The truth is probably felt she owed him. Mendes fired her and his first 66 Brasill backup band and singers, inc her. Alpert stepped in ( now remember he is co-head of A&M basically Mendes boss) and "convinced" Mendes to keep ONLY her to go with the new band. So not really.
@@Wixom2200 Don't be such a cynic. True or not, she and Janice are the main reason the group made it so big. They gave the songs life and gave the group a uniqueness not found in any other group at that time. Their magic still goes on today and has outlived them as a group.
I was born in 1962 but remember this song when I got a little older! Wow what a great song, it reminds me of Saturday mornings as a small kid in our kitchen with the radio going and my parents listening too this great music. I can listen too this tune every day and not get sick of it, it just makes my day!!!
Me too- I first heard it as a classical guitar instrumental in the late-60's/early-70's while in grade school. Fast forward to the mid-80's when I heard this version on the radio while stationed in Bermuda. For the longest I wanted to find out who it was and hear it again. I only just now found it via the Google Find Song app by humming it-
+Ron Sauer For some of the finer things in life, you need experience and maturity, developing an appreciation for well arranged and beautifully vocalized music is jus one of these things.
What GORGEOUS Women! What BEAUTIFUL Voices! What HAPPY, VIBRANT, and UPLIFTING Sounds AND FEELINGS coming from Sergio and the group! We NEED MORE of this FABULOUS music more than ever in the world TODAY! LOVE the SOUND of BRASILIA!!!!!!
Notice how happy they are making such great music. Future historians will look back at the 1960's and marvel at music makers like Sergio Mendes, et al.
Man if that isn't the truth then nothing is. Autotune is crap. Try and tell kids there was a time when artists were artists and could actually carry a tune. They look at you like you have 2 heads.
Thank you for all the great music since I was a kid. You will be missed and always remembered. I was looking up his tour schedule and found this terrible news. RIP Sergio
Herb's wife is wonderful! My aunt worked for Herb and Jerry in the 60s and I got a tour of A&M and my aunt gave me tons of promotional stuff. Lani's voice takes me back!
I remember the first time I heard "Girl From Ipanema" sung by Astrud Gilberto. It was on the radio and immediately I thought "What kind of music is that?" My Mom told me to stop talking so we could all listen to it.
They do not make music this beautiful today. This is so wonderful to hear as I grew up listening to this kind of music as a child and I still love it. The music they make today can not compare with such raw talent as these folks. I think we have to face it the we will just have to keep listening to the old music for quality singers .
Absolutely one of my favorite songs ever, but it was a benchmark of my sixties when I was a budding pianist. It still influences my music, and I play it regularly. Still get lost in my dreams when I hear it.
I remember my dad surprised my mom with a brand new '68 T-Bird coupe (white...no vinyl top thank God)...loaded at the time with all the options, including the 8-track stereo tape player. My parents loved Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66...this song was on an album that was released in '69...of all the tapes they had, that album was played to death in that beloved car. Happy times.
Was so sorry to hear of his passing. This is one of the songs I most associate with him. Feeling grateful that he shared his musical talent with us. 🙏♥

Not only was Lani a terrific singer: Herb Alpert was smart enough not to let her get away!!
My husband got us front row tickets in 2019 in Honolulu when Herb Alpert and Lani Hall performed. It was magical and dreamy! ❤❤

Don't be such a cynic. True or not, she and Janice are the main reason the group made it so big. They gave the songs life and gave the group a uniqueness not found in any other group at that time. Their magic still goes on today and has outlived them as a group.
You've got that right! I wonder, back then, if Sergio was smitten with her... I'm guessing, yes-
More than likely the other way around. He's the zillionaire... not her.
I only just now found it via the Google Find Song app by humming it-
Thank you, Sergio Mendes for all of your beautiful music over the years. RIP Sergio
This isn’t just one of the best Sergio Mendes songs...this is one of the best songs period
Rest in Peace Sergio Mendes .. thank you for your beautiful music that makes our world prettier💕
When this song was made I was busy peddling my tricycle. I'm so happy to have discovered Sergio.

For some of the finer things in life, you need experience and maturity, developing an appreciation for well arranged and beautifully vocalized music is jus one of these things.
Yes,I was 4 years old !😀
What GORGEOUS Women!
Well Said!
Karen Phillip's had it all. Hope she did well in enjoying her life. Best group ever. Thanks Sergio!

She did a beautiful pose for Playboy a long time ago. She also appeared on M.A.S.H.
Karen PHILIPP.....🎶 💕
Remember this group from my teen years! Just "feel good" music Love and light energy 🎉
Notice how happy they are making such great music. Future historians will look back at the 1960's and marvel at music makers like Sergio Mendes, et al.
I had that dress! The 60s were the best decade to be a teenager👏😍. Tommorrow @hollywood bowl- @sergiomendes ! My bucket list✔💙💜💚❤
This comes from a time when artists were chosen based on talent, unlike (the garbage of) today.
I know what you mean.
As much as I love all their talent, sometimes that drummer's timing for example, Mas Que Nada, knocked me out. Made me want to play drums.
Yes, what talent! And they sound wonderful. All without a microphone in sight! lol
Man if that isn't the truth then nothing is. Autotune is crap. Try and tell kids there was a time when artists were artists and could actually carry a tune. They look at you like you have 2 heads.
Excellent lip syncing here, kids today have gotten lazy with it.
Still remember this song from when I was six or seven. Pure magic.
Thank you for all the great music since I was a kid. You will be missed and always remembered. I was looking up his tour schedule and found this terrible news. RIP Sergio
I have never heard this song before, and it has the best lyrics I have ever had the pleasure of hearing❤
Fell in love with this group because of my dad!🥹
Same here. My mum and dad were big jazz people and absolutely loved Sergio. So sad he’s gone.
Thank you for your kind of music that perks up our day to groove..RIP Sergio Mendes
Herb's wife is wonderful! My aunt worked for Herb and Jerry in the 60s and I got a tour of A&M and my aunt gave me tons of promotional stuff. Lani's voice takes me back!
This band is fabulous, those 2 singers are beyond fabulous, their timing, stage presence, it's a joy to watch
The way Karen danced and smiled blows me away !
Such a pretty song..Sergio is a musical genius...Very unique written songs...
Its about the year when Rudolph came on TV, best years...for me & for you 🎶
Reminds me of when I was little… mid 60ies.
I always loved Brazil 66 even as a young child, still do.
I remember the first time I heard "Girl From Ipanema" sung by Astrud Gilberto. It was on the radio and immediately I thought "What kind of music is that?" My Mom told me to stop talking so we could all listen to it.
Thank you Sergio for sharing the gift of your musical genius with the world. Rest in eternal peace.
This is the smoothest, purest, and sexiest video in my entire collection of thousands of music videos
I remember riding in the car with my parents and when this came on the radio we all got quiet and just listened :)
They do not make music this beautiful today. This is so wonderful to hear as I grew up listening to this kind of music as a child and I still love it. The music they make today can not compare with such raw talent as these folks. I think we have to face it the we will just have to keep listening to the old music for quality singers .
This was music. Made before I was born and I still love this sound.
Love the hip movements of Karen Phillpp!
Was so sorry to hear of his passing. This is one of the songs I most associate with him. Feeling grateful that he shared his musical talent with us. 🙏♥
It is not wrong to be mesmerized by these two young ladies. Love their voices.
If heaven exists, it is eternally in the 1960's. I was so lucky, my whole infancy was lived in that decade.Music painted life.
My ultimate favorite song of all time!--( And I am 63 years young!!!)
