    So well explained. Thank you for all the professional tips!! This was excellent.
    I have to make a new wooden countertop for my RV and add an undermount sink. One shot is all I have for cutting that hole. If I miss, whole countertop is wasted. Scary business. Thank you!

    I just built a walnut countertop for an island (30x48) and will be installing an undermount sink. This video was absolutely the best and most useful, and professional video that I've found. Exactly the procedure that I was looking for. Thank you for putting this video together. Signed, Travco Construction

    Good reminder to place a scrap piece under the cutout to prevent from drillbit chipout.....that would definitely show up on the lip of the sink hole!

    Thanks for video on your sink cut-out on butchers block counter top! To be sure what type of saw blade did you use? Standard 24 tooth or other ( 40 or 60 }?

    • @CarpentryPlus

      @@CarpentryPlus thanks! Do you think using a 40 or 60 saw blade would make a better cut , or not necessary?

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t really think it’s necessary as this is a rough cut staying inside the lines to be cleaned up with the router later.

    Does a 3/4” bit cut better than a 1/2” or does it matter?

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably doesn't matter. I have both and the 3/4 matched the sink better.

  • @davidbissett4919
    @davidbissett4919 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a great video but a little more info would be helpful. I'm a weekender without much router experience and I burned up a flush cut router bit on an acacia butcher block countertop. Probably running too fast, but I'm thinking that acacia might be harder than the countertop in the video too. I'm trying again with a straight bit making several passes so I can bite off less than the full depth of a longer flush cut bit like used in the video. So in general some pointers about tools being used would add a helpful element to these videos. Probably a lot of viewers are amateurs.

    How do you get the radius of the sink corners to match the radius of the corners of the hole in the counter top?

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In this instance the radius of the router bit was a close match to the sink corners.

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah should work fine. I used 3/4” for this project because it matched up with the sink radius really well.

    how did you make the corner cuts on the template? Did you use a jig for those? Could you explain this as that's critical to being able to make the cut.

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The template is made of 4 individual pieces of plywood that we pocket screwed together giving us crisp clean inside corners. We then use a 3/4" diameter flush cutting router bit which happens to match (close enough) the inside corners of the sink we were using. There are other ways of doing it but that's how we did it here.

    • @chrisgermain4876
      @chrisgermain4876 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarpentryPlus thank you! So basically 4 pieces with square corners and rounded them with the router bit?

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@chrisgermain4876 I didn't actually round the corners of the template. they were left square and when you run the router but inside the template it will leave a radius corner whatever size the router bit is.

    I'm about to cut a hole in a bar that I have been working on for the past 1.5 years off and on. I came across this video and it was exactly what I was looking for. We are also installing an under mount sink in a slab of red oak. I was planning on using Rubio Monocoat on it. Would you recommend this top coat? Also, how did you seal/mount the undermount sink? Anything special other than the install kit that comes with it?

    • @CarpentryPlus
      @CarpentryPlus  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've personally never used Rubio but I hear good things so I'd say you should be fine. I used the mounting hardware that came with the sink and sealed it with silicone.
