Skip, you gave me more reason to keep writing train songs about Ed and the 844...here comes one now, and "IT'S ALRIGHT!" Fabulous chase and camera work right from the get go when Ed said "844 ready to go!...over."
In one word. Fantastic. I am sorry that in Portugal with so many steam locomotives and that they are no longer used especially with tourists and children so that they could see what it was like in the old days.
I did my steam era 1945 to 1953, then it became diesel era. These ole steamers don't have the traction for the power they really have. Great looking ALCo :-)
0:11 Union Pacific 844: (over radio) Union Pacific 844 calling musician, please announce that I’m ready to go by giving me a G major chord. I repeat I need a G major cord please, over. 0:36 Union Pacific 844: (over radio) Union Pacific 844 calling musician, please serenade my departure from Lodgepole with your rendition of This Little Light of Mine. 844 out.
Good video, never get tired of watching UP Steam..! Wondering how many miles UP put on the 844 during the year, what with trips over all the major routes in western U.S.A. & from north to south...???
the ALCo FEF series like No. 844 is a express passenger type locomotive (this is obvious by its large diameter driving wheel), the FEF series could go to 100 mph
@@voidjavelin23 100mph? Wow! Is the 844 bigger than a German 01 series? The 01 Series where a marble in their time. Today, they are still impressive. Some are still active.
Okay, u won. The UP844 is a lot bigger then the German 01-5. if where able to, I would buy a 01-5 and bring it in the USA back to life. Are some billionaires among us who want to see a German steamie on US Tracks?😉
Up 844 blows it's currently whistle used for behing in UP 150th anniversary special
It's nice hearing this whistle back on 4014.
I've seen that one in town before on its tour. Absolutely massive and astonishing
Bad news: stock whistle’s back on
That whistle/horn must be the ultimate toy! Well in fact the whole train.
Up 844 está soprando o atualmente apito igual a voz do meu papai
Built with no technology, a ruler a brain and a pencil absolutely incredible.

Great video - a Lodgepole legacy!
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO
Mabey 2014 or so, we will try to find out more at Cheyenne Depot Days May 19 & 20
Which locomotive do you think is more awesome ? The Union Pacific Big Boy, the 3985 Challenger, 844, Southern Pacific 4449, or the Santa Fe 3751 ?
And the North Platte Railfest folks must be disappointed about that line UP of events.
Lower emmissions than a bunch of hippies at a save the planet gathering. A lot less damage to the forests also.
I love trains
Listen to the rumble. Listen to the roar.
The old Uniden BC72XLT scanner
awesome shot! makes me wonder if the throttle was wide open?
How exactly are you picking up the radio transmissions?
great video, hardly a highball though. He never breaks 55
@Skip, does anyone know when 3985 is projected to be back in service?
This comment aged well 😅
they should put the elephant ears back on the challenger
Raymond Leggs nooo
Raymond Leggs 3977 still has em.
Agree
Is the 844 a freight loco or express loco? How fast can she get? German express locos can do up to 80 mph. Freighters absolut 50 mph.

@@beekey30 of course its bigger than a average DRG class 01 because midwest part of US has more free loading gauge
what is his top speed?
100 but the track limit is usually just 79 mph
844 is cool but 3985 is twice the fun
Who is the Hog head on 844 today?
Great chase, but who left that freight train there ???
Ted Cartwright make that two freighters
Nice! is 844 your favorite?
do trains use normal cb radios? if so what channel?
iam having this engine in trainz simulator android
What is the purpose of the diesel? Power generation?
Being a douche and ruining a steam locomotive’s glorious moment
no dumbass ^
The diesel is used for electricity generation to other pulling carts and ensure emergency braking is needed.
@@sablesaber5930 no they dont supply any electricity to the cars because its a freight type locomotive

LOL I said "Ohhh shut up!!" at 6:11
Was that in new jersey
