  • Its time to cut the pasture for the first time with the Kubota L2501 and the Land Pride Rotary Cutter RCR1260. I discovered that the stock top link on the 3 point was too short after I added the Pat's Quick Hitch system. I also had to chop up a big limb with the Stihl MS 461

    I have the same setup (L2501 and RCR1260) and I'm thinking of adding Pat's quick hitch system. Because Pat's quick hitch adds 4'' of distance, I wonder do you need to use a PTO extender or replace the rotatory cutter's PTO shaft with a longer one? How much PTO shaft overlap is there in your setup? Thanks.

      I have Pat's Quick attach on my tractor and I didn't need a PTO extender, however, I did need a longer top link which I posted a video about that purchase and install. I now use the longer top link for all my implements except for my middle buster that requires the stock top link.

    May I suggest a tip using your rotary cutter. The rear of the cutter only needs to be no more than 2 in. higher than the front of the cutter. A longer top link would compensate for the extra length added to your lift arms using the PATS set up. The tail wheel on your cutter should always be in contact with the ground when lift is in down position. Mowing with the rotary cutter is my favorite use of my tractor.

      Thanks for that tip, Jerry. Yes, I did get a longer top link (see the video) and the last time I set everything up I had a much better setup for the cutter. The results are much better with the cutter more level with just a few inches higher in the back. I also love using this cutter, so much satisfaction seeing the field manicured after the tall weed growth. Thanks for watching!

    Please lower the bucket when mowing. Would hate that you get hurt because of the high center with that thing up in the air like that.

      @homesteadpilgrim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback, Ref N TX! Yeah, that was my first rotary cutting experience and I learned that I need to finesse the bucket constantly depending on the circumstances, maneuvering around obstacles (bucket raised), long stretches (half way for visibility), and lowered (for any branches in the way). Learning a lot each time I hop on the seat. Thanks for watching.

    just watching this without seeing the others that posted , please put that bucket down or take it off , my dad would run it 6" of the ground to find stuff before the cutter would , looking to get one of these cutters myself , just be safe and keep the bucket low !

    You do very good videos. I can see you really keep up with the maintenance of your equipment as well. I have a Kubota 2501 as well. I got the same set up as yourself except I got a grader box with it. Since I have purchased a wood chipper. I too am going to purchase a grapple. Those implements would be good for you as well seeing your place on this video. One other thing I put a quick attach on the back of the tractor because it makes changing things super easy. I hated wrestling with the 3 links hooking up and disconnecting. Wish you and your wife well. And think about those other add-ons for the tractor. May God bless!

      Hey, Garry! Thanks so much for the positive comment! I would love to get a grapple some day, it would be used a lot hauling cut branches and logs around. I have the Pats Quick attach that is working really well so far. Take care and thanks for watching!

    I am thinking of getting another Land Pride mower, a 60", so enjoyed your video a lot. I will off a suggestion, like I have to several other video posters, not a criticism , but when you show a part of your video at 2X or 3X normal speed, it doesn't do anything for the viewer. We watch the video to get an idea of how it is cutting at a given speed, but when it's speeded up, we have no idea what speed you are really going. Af you wan to get to the end faster, just edit out a minute or two. but than for posting it. it was well done and very enjoyable to watch. Glad your wife is ok.

    • @homesteadpilgrim
      @homesteadpilgrim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Keith! Thanks for your suggestion and constructive criticism on video speed. I try to speed up more repetitive sections and I do understand that it may distort actual cutting speeds, etc.

    This is like the 3rd or 4th video I have watched on Rotary cutters, and no one has secured the outer Drive shafts with small chains. They are designed to be chained so that the outer sleeve doesn't turn. It is a safety issue, too keep you safe. I know no one likes the safety police, but it's such a easy fix. I'll get off my soap box now.

    • @troyr57
      @troyr57 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      After all that, I really do appreciate the effort that you put into making this video.

    • @homesteadpilgrim
      @homesteadpilgrim  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Troy! Yeah, I saw a recent video by Tractor Mike addressing just this issue. "WHERE DID THE LITTLE CHAIN GO???". th-cam.com/video/Cwkj-Befgeo/w-d-xo.html Worth a peek as he states that rotary cutters are no longer shipped with safety chains and he is saying that there must have been a lawsuit or injury that the vendors now see a liability with providing the chains. He also saw that the economy priced machines were missing chains when he visited a dealer lot. I also re-read my owners manual and it doesn't mention safety chains. In the final analysis, I think I'll go ahead and get the chains just to increase my level of risk mitigation. Thanks for pointing this out and spurring me to get those little chains! Thanks for watching!

    • @Miniscapes515
      @Miniscapes515 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can literally grab the otter safety cover on the drive shaft and it will stop spinning. That stupid little chain isn't saving you from anything.

    Accidents do happen. The fact your wife is a survivor is really good news and statistically she will probably not have another for years to come.

    • @homesteadpilgrim
      @homesteadpilgrim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bay! You will never believe, but I was rear-ended by a teenager on Durham Freeway on my way home from work. He was texting and ran into me. 100% liability is his, but he could have hurt himself and me. Luckily just damage to my truck and his minivan. Nothing you can do in those instances, I did talk to him about driving defensively. Important thing is that no one was hurt!

    Hey buddy, did you raise your top link pin on the tractor to the top hole? That should extend the top link. Bottom for under ground, middle for surface, top for mowing? Haven't finished the video yet, but thought I'd throw that at ya.

    • @homesteadpilgrim
      @homesteadpilgrim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Ironheadbiker! Yep, I ended up on the top hole after trying the other two as well. I'll have to get another longer top link to get it to where it should be since the Pat's quick hitch causes the whole system to be further from the tractor.

    • @ironheadbiker
      @ironheadbiker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That Rear Wheel on the Mowing Deck tells me you have it way out of adjustment. It MUST tilt back on that wheel, otherwise you could damage your 3-Point

    • @homesteadpilgrim
      @homesteadpilgrim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeffrey! Thanks for the comment. This video is my first setup of the cutter and since then I have fixed the adjustment ( I hope) where the wheel is contacting the ground and supporting the deck. Check out my most recent two cutting videos and let me know if I need further adjustment. I think I do need to raise the deck a bit to help with discharge of debris. Thanks for watching!
