Welcome to the Nikon family. I got an FG for high school graduation way back in 1985, dug it out during covid only to find the electronics fried. So I bought another along with an FM and FE. I'll likely sell the FE soon.

You got a lot of really great shots here! Love the pool tables, and that diner with the big old Pepsi sign. Lots of charm in those old buildings. Fun at the mall too (after-school adventure!).
When you started with that ramble about not knowing what you are doing, I instantly thought, "that's why you bracket!"

The fisheye really is great, sadly sold mine last year but I have a 20mm that is normally on the F4 at all times so I got something wide ishhh. Any 800 speed film is great, really need to shoot more of the portra though. no Cap. Great photo in the coffee shop. Old signs really are so appealing and I love seeing how a logo has changed over time. That sky light photo towards the end is so good as well. Anyways, great video and congrats on the new new.

Hi Caleb, only just found out you are using my all time favourite camera, it makes taking photographs so much more enjoyable, it’s the little things on this camera that I love, the film window, exposure lock and dx code support to name just a few . Just keep it quiet as they haven’t rocketed up in price like other cameras and I might buy a silver body this time around

Ah Portra 800 is one of my faves too! I think it just has something extra special about it, compared to Portra 400. I pretty much always shoot it at ISO 400 (unless I’m shooting in low light), and mainly in the summer, and it captures the vibrant blues and greens of the Ontario (Canada) summers so well. The only downside to it is the price haha.

    • @BadFlashes

Yoooooo nikon fa buddies now! My favorite lens on that body is the 50mm 1.8 pancake e series, well was until I dropped it and a nikomat ftn lol. To it's credit, it's still perfectly fine other than stiff focus near infinity.
But it's so tiny and light, makes the FA basically pocketable. Plus 1.8 is always great, my favorite lens for doing nighttime neon/sign photography. Good luck man!!!

Nikon FA camera, first with multi segmenten matrix exposure meter. Great little camera.
If you go further with your Nikon exploration, I Suggest the Nikon F4, the most versatile camera Nikon produced. Can handle all non-AI, AI, AI-S, AF (including the two F3AF lenses 80mm f/2.8 and the 200mm f/3.5 [careful will not work with the F4s and F4e models of the F4 camera]). Professionals did not like the slow auto-focus and jumped to Canon. But because it is under appreciated it is cheap. Careful to check the condition of the LCD (leaks) and camera back (Sticky). F4 is a beast of a camera, so can be used as a weapon during you spooky abandon building photograph sessions.

    • @BadFlashes

As long as we don't overdo it, a true fisheye can bend horizons and curtain rods into swooping arcs of fun. I would run out and buy one, but I already have one for my Canon (14mm). On the other hand, mine is rectilinear, so some stuff-shirt engineer yanked the bendy fun into straight lines. So maybe it's time to scour the pockets for a fish eye.
