    I just want to say thank you. Out of all the reptile breeders and youtubers etc. this is the first time I’ve seen the thumbnail picture of a crazy colored reptile and it was actually real not just a photoshopped picture to clickbait people. Those are some crazy colored iguanas!

    I love to see reptiles so well taken care of....too many people have reptiles in enclosures that are much too small & lacking in essentials. Great job Mr. Clutchfield.

      Agree, it is sad to see people treating animals more like "objects" than an actual pet which you provide 100% of your heart to.

      Tony Grind if you can’t afford to keep an animal then you shouldn’t own it, same goes if someone can’t afford to raise a kid then it’s unfair and selfish of them to have a kid

    You touched a little on this in the beginning. I tell people all the time that moving your animals to different enclosures without acclimating them before hand can cause stress enough to kill the animal. Also, switching the cage around drastically can also do this.
    This is a great video.

  • @alscritters156
    @alscritters156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    I wish people understood this when they keep pets, especially some TH-cam channels you see. Some people are keeping animals more like a "collection" rather than pets. Especially when people start keeping animals in small enclosures and not providing the best for their animals. Unless you are breeding, I don't see why, for example, reptiles should be kept in a small bin cage with just papertowl, one hide, and a water bowl.
    Even with rodents, some people don't keep their hamster in a proper cage size(similar to a 40 breeder). Instead you see people keeping hamsters in those plastic cages. Don't keep a pet unless you know you are able to give it all its need and not just the minimum amount of room for it to survive.

    • @T.R.A.V.Y.N
      @T.R.A.V.Y.N 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I somewhat agree. I don't understand collectors who treat their animals super well, but hidden and uncelebrated stacked upon stacks like a breeding operation. It's all sanitary and organized.. but its not exciting for the animals or for the home. I have a no stack policy for my animals. They are all incorporated throughout my house in highly visible and elegant enclosures we either built or repurposed out of antique furniture. My animals are always in the mix, and learn how to be social and explorative, especially since we are constantly updating and beautifying the environments. If you are a breeder, this isn't the method for you. But few of us need to be breeding or have any business doing it, and shouldn't be over collecting. quality over quantity indeed!

But then I looked at the date and what happened to Slinky hadn't happened yet. Thank God he's healthy again. In Louisiana we recently within the past 2 months had a freeze spell and the swamp froze over. You know what gators do to survive. They wait just before the water freezes over and they stick their snouts out of the water and then they let the swamp freeze over. They are stuck like that until the swamp unfreezes, but they live because they go into a state of dormancy and can live in freezing temps in the water. 👍🏼

    That is very close to what happens often with feral cats. If you try and take a feral out of its area and then unceremoniously dump them in another they often go off food or even die trying to make their way back to the area they were in before. That is their territory. If you absolutely must move a feral cat you have to keep it contained for usually a minimum of 6 weeks in the new site while providing care. Even then the failure rate is abysmal. It helps to bring scent marked items from the old area as well so they can smell themselves and feel as though it is familiar

    I absolutely love the pink building with the aqua trim. It looks like paradise. If I ever come back as a reptile I want to live with Tom or at Kamp Kenan. They have the best homes for reptiles and turtles and other animals. I know it's safe to keep them all stacked up in drawers and bins and in large just Vision cages but to see those animals outside and in the natural world they've just got to be happier and healthier. That b**** about removing an animal from its area and placing it in another has a 100% mortality rate is astounding. If we keep taking their habitats we are going to be a planet with no animals. And a planet with no "animals" means that we won't be here either. Think about it!

    About turtle breeding, concerning the ones that are not reversing or changing their breeding habits: While I'm not a biologist, I do know a fair amount about plants. That being said, I'd suggest breeding has less to do with our seasons in the USA, though in a way it does: While ambient temperatures are doubtless a factor in breeding cycles, I'd suggest their cycles have a bit more to do with light. Being sensitive to not only quality of light but more significantly length of daily illumination might be crucial. During Spring and Fall the day length is fairly equal, may be influencing and perhaps triggering the reproductive cycle.
