Thank you for including shots from across the net as well as close ups of the execution. I like to see the result of the shot on the other side of the net. Awesome!

Thank you, Deb! You make the sport a delight to enjoy in our golden years. You have so much to teach us and it sure makes us be more competitive around those seasoned players for us newbies. Keep up the excellent work and hope to see you in some tournament, hopefully not at the other end as my opponent in doubles.

First, I applaud the dedication you have to making these videos. You obviously care about teaching people and it is risky to put yourself out there on the Internet. That said, the advice in this video -- and others -- is misleading. Spin is the combination of paddle path AND angle. An upward swing path does not, on its own, create topspin. A low to high swing will create topspin only if the paddle face is neutral at the moment of contact. If the face is open, you will get some backspin.
Further, this video conflates spin and timing. One can hit the ball on the rise with topspin or backspin. They are not mutually exclusive the way the video suggests.

In singles pickleball, does the receiver of serve have to stand behind the base line until the ball is served or can she/he stand anywhere they wish?

Thanks for the video!! Can you explain how topspin and backspin affects the ball as it lands? Thanks in advance.

Topspin hops up toward the opponent. Underspin reverses the spin back toward the net. Underspin forces your opponents to hit up on the ball in order to clear the net.
      Hope this helps!

Thanks Deb! So how do we choose if we want to hit with topspin or underspin? Is it harder to return the one with underspin and if so, wouldn't we always try and do that?
Thanks again for your great video's. I LOVE how clear you make everything by repetition and slow motion. Much appreciated!

I think that the more difficult shot to third shot off of is the underspin. Sometimes called 'chip and charge' so that you can close in with a deep underspin shot. Because your opponent has to 'lift' up sometimes they have difficulty clearing the net. I, however, you give a short underspin return, be carerful of the third shot blast from your opponents.
glad you like my videos. I love doing them!

Today an opponent hit a legal ball in the kitchen by my right side pole. The ball bounced and came back over the net into the kitchen on his side. I was by the pole. Could I reach around the pole and hit the ball on their side of the net? This is the first time any of us playing saw this happen.

+Joseph Yukish Yes you can as long as you don't allow anything on you or your paddle to touch the net or pole and that the ball lands fairly into their playing zone.
