    Thank you for your video. Why we did not re-check the thickness of concrete that we assume? Kindly advise please.

    Dr. Saleema Panda Ma'am, I have a few doubts regarding the design presented in the video. BM you considered for design of vertical walls and main reinforcement placement. You have idealized the vertical walls to be a propped cantilever, right and calculated the BM also using same idealizations. Then the main reinforcements should also be in vertical direction rather than in horizontal direction.

    Here, L/B = 11.35/5 = 2.27 > 2. Hence, Long walls will act as cantilever throughout 2.8m. For short walls, first 1 m will act as cantilever, the remaining 2.85 - 1 = 1.85 m will act as slab fixed supported between long walls. Also long walls will be subjected to axial tension + Moment and axial compression + moment. Similarly short walls above 1 m will also be subjected to BM + Axial Tension and BM + Axial Compression. Normally the underground tanks are designed for (i) Tank empty + soil outside and (ii) tank full + no soil outside as two critical conditions. Sometimes, we need to consider soil outside as saturated condition also. Additionally, in this case you have taken wl^2/15 as maximum moment. We need to also provide the reinforcement for wl^2/33.5 as it is having an opposite direction BM.

    Nicely explained in a simple way. But the main steel for the vertical walls to be placed vertically not horizontally as mentioned.

    Hi,
    Mu=0.87*fy*Ast*d(1-(fy*Ast)/(fck*b*d))
    Right?.
    Why is 0.42/0.36 multiplied with (fy*Ast)/(fck*b*d)?

      Both hinged means indeterminate structure. You can analyze to calculate the moment due to triangular load of water pressure and lateral soil pressure on the wall by using any structural analysis method.
