In this process Co2 is generated at the cost of RuBP not being regenerated, therefore the CO2 produced can not be fixed in the Calvin cycle.( Since the Calvin cycle requires RuBP ) So the co2 produced really has no use which is why I highly doubt that this mechanism is a way to gaurantee co2 for photosynthesis and is more of an evolutionary fault.

Looks like photorespiration only happens in significant amounts when the stomata are closed. If they are closed, then the 3 carbon dioxide atoms lost to this process don't have anywhere else to go. So they will probably be reabsorbed in the normal Calvin-Benson cycle.
I noticed that Sal wrote Rubisco's name as RuBP oxygenase-carboxylase. However, I learned in one of his previous videos that Rubisco is short for RuBP carboxylase-oxygenase (hence the acronym). Pointing out that detail, great video otherwise!
