      But yeah, totally agree some situations seem warranted.
      Bottom line the machine needs fuel for ratings and their money. Sad that true feelings or misunderstandings, whatever, become fodder.
      Lovely day to all, happy thoughts!! 😁❤️

      What I learned recently about Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield both were smart ladies with high IQs but for the life of me why didn't they played their cards better especially Marilyn who was upset when she learned Elizabeth Taylor playing Cleopatra was going to get 2 million dollars while Marilyn lived in a small house without the luxuries which she would have liked to have had and plenty of money. I believe her disposition not being available to the directors and producers of those projects due to her mental health issues caused her to lose so much more than money, but her reputation was tarnished for years.

    • @evernit
      @evernit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      She did actually. She got the top billing in few movies, including the starring role in _The Girl Can't Help It_ (1956) which became one of the biggest successes of the year, earning more than let's say _Gentlemen Prefer Blondes_ had three years earlier with Monroe. Her film career however would suffer several setbacks and she was often unable to fulfill the contract due to repeated pregnancies, so Fox stopped viewing her as their mainstream star .
      Not that I would be a fan of her work, just a note of hand to keep some of her records straight. Mansfield herself was a major movie star for a while, able to attract large audiences also overseas. Anyway, her adoption of Monroe's style and mannerisms would eventually also turn against her. After the death of her senior rival, Hollywood didn’t want to be reminded of blondes and she herself passed away tragically shortly.

    • @Kaboomboo
      @Kaboomboo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      At her peak she was considered that. Let's not forget that she was already pretty popular in New York City thanks to her Broadway success. So the leap into Hollywood wasn't that big of a gap. She starred in two major movies back to back, and had a few modest successes afterward. Sadly her peak ended very quickly and her downfall was attributed to many factors:
      1. Repeated pregnancies that effectively kept her out of work for 2 years
      2. Her marriage to Mickey Hargitay, angering studio executives
      3. Tawdry and cheap publicity stunts that led her getting dropped by her fashion label
      4. Getting shipped off to make cheap European films for years, keeping her out of the Hollywood eye
      5. Over spending in her personal life leading her to take any job that came her way
      6. The death of Marilyn Monroe marking the end of the blond bombshell
      7. And most importantly (at least in my opinion), her unwillingness to take the role of Ginger on Gilligan's Island.
      Despite these drawbacks, Jayne was still very popular and sought after in her own right. She had a successful Las Vegas revue and Nightclub tour. But the 60s was a much different time than the 50s and Jayne's body type and general aging in years just didn't fit with them. She tried to cling to being a sex symbol but 5 children and three failed marriages worked against that image. By the end, she became less of a glamorous Hollywood actress and more of a Kim Kardashian-type celebutante.
      I think if she had been on Gilligan's Island, she would've had steady work and she'd still have mega star status. But she was too proud to be a "television" star and insisted that she just do movies in starring roles. She may have had some breathing room to rework her image to something more dramatic.

      Both were great actresses especially Elizabeth but Debbie showed she had many talents that directors and producers weren't willing to see. Despite her Oscar nomination "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." However, being placed in certain types of funny movies never got the vehicle to do more serious roles like, "The Rat Race with Tony Cutis which she was great playing opposite Tony. However, those were the breaks in being type-cast as she was. I recalled that Ginger Rogers got tired of playing opposite Fred Astaire and decided to push for other roles which she got an Oscar immediately after playing single pregnant mother in "Kitty Foyle" back in 1941. It was worth it since she played many other roles even "The Black Widow" which we never guessed she was the killer. Ginger was wise to push for those roles which helped her achieve more accolades.

    The Davies - Crawford feud is fabricated for the most part. Sure, they weren't friends but for the most part they weren't rivals either. Their carrers seldomly entertuine before Baby Jane and normaly they took on completly different roles. Even all the bickering after Baby Jane can have been more of them taking advantage of the public's interest on a possible feud than actual bad blood between the two. I can assure all of you Bette Davis's and Joan Crawford's feud with each other was all too real but admittedly one sided: Bette Davis hated Joan Crawford way more than Joan Crawford hated Bette, Joan only said nice things publicly about Bette, while Bette publicly said the most vicious things about Joan she could think up - Bette was pathologically jealous of Joan for some reason. Bette had other enemies too: 30's star Natalie Moorhead detested her as did Barbara Stanwyck who found Bette to be greedily over ambitious while Natalie told a director that in a film Bette and her were in she told the director: tell the bitch to quit stepping on my lines !! Bette rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Note: in the 30's Natalie Moorhead was all over the place, she also starred with Clark Gable and Joan Crawford in a very early Crawford gangster film, (Clark was the gangster.)

But it wasn’t just the pop starts it was pretty much most young woman and young girls at the time were dressing and copying everything she did or you could say they were inspired by. You're wrong about Hearst and Welles: although true Hearts was angry about "the portrayal", it was * not * Welles' portrayal of Hearst that angered him. Hearst was angry about how Welles slurred the images of Hearst's girlfriend, as were many in Hollywood. Welles even admitted he'd made up his study of her abs a failure, and he admitted it was wrong to make fun of her in the way he did: she was a very talented and well- respected actress, and apparently also a really nice human being. Many in Hollywood said this, and were shocked and angered by Welles turning into the drunk failure he did
    That is why Heart attacked Welles, * not * because of Welles' portrayal of him.

      It was that the most beautiful girl in any crappy town moved to Hollywood to make it big, and ugly girls didn't. Naturally, all the most beautiful girls in one place are only the ones who moved there. To this day, Hollywood has gorgeous waitresses, extras, salesgirl, etc., because they all grow up being the prettiest in their town and go to Hollywood, only to find out that they are not the prettiest in Hollywood, and get regular jobs. I worked in Hollywood in the early 90s and it was the same, all the teen movies then were kids from every podunk town in the country. Honestly I feel really bad for the sad life Monroe had growing up and all her issues but she is way too idolized and for what? Being the biggest sleaziest actress up to that point? There’s even going to be ANOTHER movie about her life coming out soon. At this point I don’t know who’s life has been made into a movie more, Marilyn Monroe or Ted Bundy.

    • @ccgrey8731
      @ccgrey8731 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      gigglyme2001, What was sleazy about Marilyn? Have you ever even seen a movie she was in? She was terrific at comedy. How To Marry a Millionaire with MM and Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall remains one of my favorite 50's movies. In real life Marilyn worked to better herself. She was an avid reader. She was not a partier and didn't have a flashy lifestyle. People made up so much fiction about her and still do. She dressed in an understated way unless she had a big event where she needed to be the movie star. There is a video on TH-cam of her attending Clark Gable's son's christening. She arrives dressed elegantly but not flashy. One can get a good sense of her from it. There was nothing sleazy about her, quite the opposite.
