    Thank you, I’ve been needing a trustworthy video like this. Ardent reel clean swabs work well on the reels and rods also. Can’t wait for the next video!

    Magic erasers are also awesome on the old crankbaits i find in the water. Easiest way to clean em when there’s so much gunk built up u can’t even tell what color it is

    The Magic Erasers for the cork is a great idea. I prefer to use either Simple Green and blue shop paper towels, or Lysol wipes, and spare toothbrushes to clean the rest of the rod and guides. And you GOTTA use rod socks when transporting and storing rods.

    I coat all of my cork handles in polyurethane, makes keeping them clean a snap and keeps them from soaking up water, takes a day or two to get everything coated and set, but I love the end result and my rod cork looks and feels great after the season in nothing flat.

    Gene, I have a rod and reel I bought when I got after high school, I am guessing it is nearly 45 year old. I have fished it in salt water and fresh water. I have never cleaned it in my life except after I salt water fish, just spray it down with fresh water. The reel I would take it apart, clean it and apply fresh grease in the housing. This is the first time I ever heard about someone cleaning their rods like that. It is a very good idea to do

    Hey Fluke! I just went out on a whim and bought a rod cover/carry system that I saw on Facebook. Normally Facebook products are gimmicky but I liked this one. Google UPRVR. I really like it and it protects rods very well while carrying them to the car, dock or while bank fishing. It’s the UPRRVR Rod Caddy.

      I think that is the one the copied the Rod Mule from CalCoast Fishing

      Flukemaster yeah maybe, they are both very similar, but a little different at the same time. I don’t know, I don’t get all into product drama haha I save that for my lady’s makeup videos 😂

    Hey Flukemaster , Question for you , i acknowledge as a angler we should clean our rods and reels at least 1 once a year epescially during the the off season meaning from December / January through March , The Questioni have for you is this , How often through out the year do you clean your poles and reels??? once or twice a year??? im asking , because i remember while back a angler was saying that if you take the time to clean your rod and reel during the seasonand ecpecially during the off season then your rod and reel is going to last longer , google says if im fishing fresh water then i need to clean my rods and reels 1 in every 5 trips. so im like ok well which is it , 1 in every 5 trips or twice a year??? is why i ask

    I use a 2 step process for cleaning my rods;
    -First I’ll use an Armour All protective wipe and clean/wipe down the blank and guides to remove dirt, grime, salt build up
    -Then I’ll use a paste type car wax and wax the blank and inside of the guides.

    • @Flukemaster
      @Flukemaster  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the rod stay slick after using Armor all? I just worry about using petroleum based products. They might soften the epoxy on the guides.

    • @Skolmann
      @Skolmann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Flukemaster never had a problem with the epoxy cracking or otherwise and I’ve been doing this on some rods that I’ve owned for 15+ years. Not only does the Armour remove the grime it gives the blank that “brand new “ look and when you add a coat of wax over it-it not only protects the blanks from sunlight UV rays but also prevents fish scales and the like from adhering to the blank. After use just a light spray of fresh water and a wipe with a clean terry cloth towel.

    @flukemaster, i have a question for you, I'm from El Paso Texas and here in the summer can gets extremely hot, is it a good idea to keep the rods in the garage? currently i keep them in my bedroom but my wife is ready to kick me out along with all my fishing gear lol

    • @Flukemaster
      @Flukemaster  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That should be fine just keep them out of the sunlight when storing them.

  • @bigredbass7898
    @bigredbass7898 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video Fluke. What do you think about high summer heat and harsh winter cold affecting your gear if left in the garage?

    • @Flukemaster
      @Flukemaster  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely effects fishing line and could hurt rods but it may take years and years to see the effect.
