  • McRaven house in Vicksburg is regarded by many to be the most haunted house in Mississippi. In its 225 years of existence, the home has been a magnet for tragedy, treachery, and supernatural sightings. At least five occupants have died on or near the property including the original owner, a highway man who robbed travelers on the Natchez trace, a young wife who died in childbirth, and a businessman killed by Union troops in retaliation for a brick throwing incident. The McRaven house was also used as a field hospital during the Civil War: the site of countless surgeries, amputations and deaths. The visitors to the McRaven have reported full-body apparitions, mysterious voices, slamming doors, and lights turning on and off without explanation. One previous owner even had an exorcist come to the house to banish its more malevolent spirits.
