Jace Solomon probably because it sounds good on paper. "If the rich guy has more money, he'll hire more guys, and give us raises" kind of hard to argue with that logic, until you factor in real people, and of course people are the worst. "Oh, on second thought I think I'll just keep the money for myself, I've totally earned it, honest"

We've done this twice now, and it was a catastrophe both times, even the republican god Reagan realized how bad it was and tried to undo it, but once you open pandora's box you can't close it.

The motor of the economy is the middle class, they have money and buy stuff and the group is many times larger than the rich. At least it used to be, the middle class has been decimated.

"Under _our_ tax models at the Treasury... um... this will pay for itself."
Am I the only one who gets sick of hearing this? I heard it over and over again while _Bush_ was in office and it never turned out to be true. What's wrong with either asking the wealthy to demonstrate their sincerity when they say the nation needs more defense spending by asking them to pay more in taxes to cover it, or asking them to demonstrate their sincerity when they say they need lower taxes by _cutting_ our defense spending to cover _that?_ Because the claims, "We need more defense spending," and "The wealthy need lower taxes," cannot be reconciled. This is the sort of thing that pushes up the national debt.

    • @FILMkijkertje
      @FILMkijkertje 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

lazyperfectionist1: Question should be "How much is enough for the defense complex?" We are already outspending the next 10-15 countries, so where is the threath? Since WW2 NO country has declared war to the US. Since Pearl Harbor, NOT a single foreign soldier has set foot on US soil and fired a bullet. Yet the majority of Americans (are led to) believe they are and have been on the verge of being invaded for the past 70 years. But then again if the US army is still paying 40 USd for a box of nails, one could argue they need more money. BTW what happened to all the statements of the generals since the late 80s that we would be leaving conventional war and moving more and more to technologgy warfare with drones. We have an entire drone complex yet it isn't getting any cheaper

What makes so interesting is that his persona alone could potentially make other black swan events much more likely to happen compared with other presidents, like nuclear war, the halting of global trade, invasion of Iran, invasion of NK, etc. Just because of DJT factor. If he's pulled one of those black swan events, then the theory about Man of History is proved still relevant in the age of information and high-technology environment. Cheers for academic!

We need TAX INCREASES!! Huffington Post April 25, 2017 The next time your right-wing family member or former high school classmate posts a status update or tweet about how taxing the rich or increasing workers’ wages kills jobs and makes businesses leave the state, I want you to send them this article.
When he took office in January of 2011, Minnesota governor Mark Dayton inherited a $6.2 billion budget deficit and a 7 percent unemployment rate from his predecessor, Tim Pawlenty, the soon-forgotten Republican candidate for the presidency who called himself Minnesota’s first true fiscally-conservative governor in modern history. Pawlenty prided himself on never raising state taxes - the most he ever did to generate new revenue was increase the tax on cigarettes by 75 cents a pack. Between 2003 and late 2010, when Pawlenty was at the head of Minnesota’s state government, he managed to add only 6,200 more jobs.
During his first four years in office, Gov. Dayton raised the state income tax from 7.85 to 9.85 percent on individuals earning over $150,000, and on couples earning over $250,000 when filing jointly - a tax increase of $2.1 billion. He’s also agreed to raise Minnesota’s minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2018, and passed a state law guaranteeing equal pay for women. Republicans like state representative Mark Uglem warned against Gov. Dayton’s tax increases, saying, “The job creators, the big corporations, the small corporations, they will leave. It’s all dollars and cents to them.” The conservative friend or family member you shared this article with would probably say the same if their governor tried something like this. But like Uglem, they would be proven wrong.
Between 2011 and 2015, Gov. Dayton added 172,000 new jobs to Minnesota’s economy - that’s 165,800 more jobs in Dayton’s first term than Pawlenty added in both of his terms combined. Even though Minnesota’s top income tax rate is the fourth highest in the country, it has the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the country at 3.6 percent. According to 2012-2013 U.S. census figures, Minnesotans had a median income that was $10,000 larger than the U.S. average, and their median income is still $8,000 more than the U.S. average today.
By late 2013, Minnesota’s private sector job growth exceeded pre-recession levels, and the state’s economy was the fifth fastest-growing in the United States. Forbes even ranked Minnesota the ninth best state for business (Scott Walker’s “Open For Business” Wisconsin came in at a distant #32 on the same list). Despite the fearmongering over businesses fleeing from Dayton’s tax cuts, 6,230 more Minnesotans filed in the top income tax bracket in 2013, just one year after Dayton’s tax increases went through. As of January 2015, Minnesota has a $1 billion budget surplus, and Gov. Dayton has pledged to reinvest more than one third of that money into public schools. And according to Gallup, Minnesota’s economic confidence is higher than any other state.
Gov. Dayton didn’t accomplish all of these reforms by shrewdly manipulating people - this article describes Dayton’s astonishing lack of charisma and articulateness. He isn’t a class warrior driven by a desire to get back at the 1 percent - Dayton is a billionaire heir to the Target fortune. It wasn’t just a majority in the legislature that forced him to do it - Dayton had to work with a Republican-controlled legislature for his first two years in office. And unlike his Republican neighbor to the east, Gov. Dayton didn’t assert his will over an unwilling populace by creating obstacles between the people and the vote - Dayton actually created an online voter registration system, making it easier than ever for people to register to vote.
The reason Gov. Dayton was able to radically transform Minnesota’s economy into one of the best in the nation is simple arithmetic. Raising taxes on those who can afford to pay more will turn a deficit into a surplus. Raising the minimum wage will increase the median income. And in a state where education is a budget priority and economic growth is one of the highest in the nation, it only makes sense that more businesses would stay.
It’s official - trickle-down economics is bunk. Minnesota has proven it once and for all. If you believe otherwise, you are wrong.

As a woman, I suspect there is a reason that Pence is not allowed to entertain other women without the wife present. It's not normal for a couple married for so long (trust generally builds over time.) But, I could easily see how a past situation informs the present.

Historically speaking, tax cuts for the rich have never paid for themselves. They didn't during the Reagan years, the first part of the Bush Sr. years before taxes had to be raised, and during the Bush Jr. years, hence the massive deficits the country's budget had during those administrations. Trickle down economics has been proven to not work.
The tax cuts did cause an increase in economic activity, but most economists attribute that to the fact that part of those tax cuts went to the lower and middle class, who actually spent and invested the money given back to them. The rich on the other hand overwhelmingly chose to deposit their portion of every one of those tax cuts into their bank accounts and sit on that money (which generated no increase in economic activity on their part). The economic activity generated by the pittances given to the lower/middle class have never been enough to offset the lost federal revenue from the massive tax cuts given back to the rich.
And surprise, surprise, Trump's tax cut is structured even more favorably towards the rich than the ones during the Reagan and both Bush administrations. When tickle down once again fails to do what the conservatives promise it will do, the people who voted this administration in only have themselves to blame when the country is bankrupt in four years because Trump ran on this obviously tried and failed economic policy as one of his key policy planks. The non-wealthy who voted for him deserve even more so the ass-fucking they get when the federal programs they've been proven to benefit from get their funding slashed in draconian budget cuts on top of the ones already planned for the next budget because of said federal bankruptcy.
