11 years ago today I lost my troubled son at just 21 years old, I've often found comfort in this song, and as I sit and write this with eye's full of tears, this version is the most beautiful and moving I have heard. God bless Christopher. Thank you Joe and RIP Dean.

Mr. Dean Ford came full circle when he made this rerecording of his classic song. His amazing vocals withstood the ravage of time that many are unable to duplicate. This song offers each one of us to reflect back on our own lives. As a 66 year old, I can remember when I was a young man thinking that life was forever. Now, I realize more clearly that life is only a fleeting moment and each one of us are temporary in this world. We only have a certain number of days to leave something positive in this world before our time is up. Thank you Mr. Dean Ford for your contributions to music and the love you shared with us to appreciate the little time we have. We are all going home when our time is up. Enjoy the stay while you still can. God Bless and Rest in Eternal Peace Mr. Dean Ford. ❤️

      I couldn't agree more.
I am going to be 62 in April. I likely don't have much longer on this earth. It took a chronic illness to illuminate the truth about my life. My failures. The opportunities I had to have a wife and family. All gone now.
It took this illness to make me see my shortcomings as a human being. Life can be beautiful, but also harsh.
      Thanks again.

Dean Ford was a brilliant song writer. May he rest in peace. It is sobering to see both versions of Dean Ford. One very young and the other so much older. It happens to all of us. And in between the young and the old years is where we also change physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. We are gone so fast from this world and we don't get a do over so make sure you enjoy every single moment. It dawns on me right now of my own changes... As much as I loved the original version I have changed enough to appreciate this version too.
    Take care everybody.

Words can’t express the depth of sadness I feel every time I listen to this song. The original version helped me get through Vietnam. At that time I was feeling betrayed by our government and unanswered prayers were also not helping. Music became my crutch, and still is. The sadness became more profound when I heard that Dean Ford had passed away. Soon after reading about his death I realized I had employed him under his birth name (Thomas McAleese) as a driver for a limousine service I owned in Hollywood back in the early 80’s. He was an alcoholic and drank the booze from the bar in the limo and I simply fired him. I had no idea that this man and his music played such a huge part in helping me when I was emotionally crippled and feel like I missed a chance at paying him back and helping him in some way. The lyrics remain relevant today, R.I.P. Dean Ford.

I think you should rest easy, aguynamedave1, because Mr. Ford eventually overcame his addiction and enjoyed his life according to what I've read. And you did give him a helping hand by hiring him at a time when he just wasn't ready for it. This is the only song that brings the tears to me, even now at 68. I hadn't heard it for decades until today and, yup, it still brought the tears. Just a beautiful composition. Man we were so lucky to have music like this growing up. And new generations will have it on youtube. Peace to all. Rest in Peace Mr. Ford (McAleese).

This was a very popular song with the troops in Vietnam and many of the lyrics seemed to sum up the war. Take me back to my old home, or take me back to the world. I am changing or should I say I have changed not for the better. The world is a bad place a bad place a terrible place to live, but I don't want to die. I was gone in 69 after spending three tours with the 1st Air Cav and the 101st Airborne. I don't think I ever really made it back home. Seems like yesterday

I was not born yet then, but when we learned about the Vietnam War in high school I cried for two hours. I had to leave the classroom. It was too much. Then in 2012 I went to the War Memorial in Washington DC and it hit me deep in the gut and in the heart to see all those names printed up there, all the veterans coming back, soldiers from more recent wars. My heart is with soldiers. God bless you. It's very sad and this is a very sad very impressive song. I might cover it. In fact I will.

It's funny, as a youth music is about the beat, the tempo, the movement, while the words are just so so. But as we age, as life and the world around us affects us, the words become pertinent. This song, these words will break the strongest of men. Take me back….to my old home, and this song surely does, takes me back to the days of my youth with tears in my eyes, on the reflections of my life. Thank you Joe, RIP Dean ❤️

Thank you Joe, this song which brought tears from the opening notes.
I stood apart from adolescent buddies about music. They preferred louded screaming guitar rifs, pounding drums with that thudding base line.
I preferred thought provoking lyrics and melodic harmonies that had something to say.
THIS song, with its painful reflective regrets, always touches my heart with a deep and powerful of release from all "...my sorrows" and I know that: "...I'm changing, arranging
I'm changing I'm changing everything..." Everything inside me.
There has been 50+ years since my searching teenage heart felt the impact of THAT song on my psyche, and in time the boy became a man who is not afraid of tomorrow anymore.

When the song came out (what seems like a hundred years ago) I never really heard what it says. I loved listening to it, because it was beautiful. (And still is. ) Up until about 5-6 years ago it was rare to be able to hear it on the radio. After I got to the computer age I listened to it quite alot. I am just short of 65 and just missed Vietnam. However, I did time in the Army so, I feel a huge connection to anything Vietnam. Sounds crazy I know. It is tough for me to watch a movie about the Vietnam war or listen to music from then. This song just tears me up to no end. I try not to cry but, can't help it. Even reading the comments on here had me crying as well. My wife and I drove from central florida to see The Wall in DC on a whim of mine about 1984. She had to hold me up. I just sobbed like a baby. Everytime I hear this song I cry my eyes out. I think it is a combination of getting older but, mainly I cry for all the est. 59,000 we lost in VietNam and not to mention all the ones that came back and what they had to deal with. This version is so powerful it is hard to explain but, I believe you guys know what I mean. Thank you Dean Ford. Thanks to all of you for letting me ramble on. I needed to do this for a long time.
