Can you dive more into sunshine hours. I think thats more important to most people than temperature or rain (we dont mind it raining and being a bit chilly if we can see the sun). Over the last year it must be pretty dire.

For some reason sunshine hours seems to have become unfashionable. We know about the wet; we know about the rain; we know about the wind; we know about the temperatures. But I think the grass is not growing like it should is because we are down on sunshine hours and many places are still like bogs. I don't think I have had so little grass in my garden for mid-April.?

Interested in the wind map for April (so far). So here's my simple question....which I fear will elicit a complex answer! To make the Deep Dives better rather like our weather just mix them up would be my suggestion. Another one looking into past tornadic events in the UK would be great and please do follow up on that latest potential tornado. Maybe it was merely a straight-line wind event which also suggests we have more videos about wind then? Best wishes, Tony.

Another great insight into the weather. It would be interesting to also see a chart like the temperature and rainfall for level of zonal (from the south west/west) weather. This clearly has a big impact on temperatures and rainfall and I'd imagine this year has to be right up there with the most zonal of years. If the zonal weather was to continue into the summer I'd assume the average yearly temperatures would come down, though rainfall likely to continue to rise. Really hoping it doesn't continue though.

Why is the Met office app so off in its wind speeds. It has been over 20 miles per hour out and gives a wrong impression of what to expect.

My wife was travelling into Lincoln, and she was convinced she drove through a tornado. She is obsessed with them, but her evidence was, hail super high wind's and horizontal rain..and she said she spotted a hook in the clouds.

What would be good is more explaination about cloud types/formation/inversions in mountainous areas to help hikers predict the weather - send Aidan out on a hike!

It's hard to imagine how this brilliant programme can be improved. I was wondering if there is a pattern to this years weather as in it being an El Niño year. Do we get more rainfall in those years? As in do the above average rainfalls coincide with El Niño years? Thanks Alex and welcome Greg 😊

What are the chances we could end up having a summer like last year? What was it, like 9 weeks of low pressure dominating summer wasnt it?

1666 A high end F4/low end F5 past through Welbourn, Wellingore, Navenby and Boothby Graffoe in Lincolnshire. Killing 3 people. Rated T8/9 by TORRO which is equivalent to F4 on the Fujita scale. Slight possibility of being an F5. we did have big one in 1091 london taking out 600 homes some reports say f4. Portsmouth on 14 December 1810, with a T8 (F4) rating. modern times we got lucky not had big one for a while now we prob due a big one at some point

Hi Alex, I know we have always had tornadoes in the UK, but the frequency of damaging ones does seem to be increasing. Will the UK look to invest in tools to allow us to better predict a likely tornado?

Yea we get 30 to 40 each year. They do seem to have become more frequent but there's not much evidence in the stats. It's quite a small number to see trends over years with such a large variance. I agree we have had an unusual number of impactful ones in the past 3 or 4 years. I'm sure there'll be ongoing research around this.

Hey folks. Thanks for the great info as always. While I love the trend reports showing how wet or warm things have been. The graph showing us that we are having a warm April and even trending towards the top end of that. Its based on the overall average, any chance we can get some regionality? (spelling?) I live down Southampton way, we are thin blooded and April doesn't feel like it has been warmer. Would be nice to see those line graphs for some of the areas so we can see how our (local) weather is fairing?

Alex, were the Met Office surprised by the intensity of the wind. Could it have been a named storm?
