If this is about the company that everyone thinks it is, then their "employment-without-employing" thing has happened many times and it's super shady. They wanted your time, effort and creativity - and they probably didn't want to pay you (hence the no contract, no official offer of employment thing). There's been a lot of buzz (heh) about it on youtube - Kat Blaque has a really interesting video on the topic (along with links in the description to various articles from former employees who have experienced the less-pleasant side of the industry). I'm very glad you didn't accept the offer as it's likely you would've ended up tied into all kinds of exclusivity agreements preventing you from creating anything elsewhere and transferring ownership of the content you /did/ create to the company!
thanks for the extra info. it did sound like since he offered no employment but wanted videos it could suddenly turn out to be volunteer / intern work down the line. i know in the videos sometimes interns feature so it could suddenly turn out to be that. i guess at the casual meet emma could have tried asking a load of questions rather than remaining silent and seeing where it went.
