‘It’s all about the adventure’! Ben you’re truely inspirational, there’s a handful of hunters, from New Zealand and the rest of the world that motivate me and you’re at the top of that list. The way you enthusiastically capture the beauty, emotion, pain, successes and failures of hunting is exceptional. Your promised lands will always be full of great times, thanks so much for sharing and maintaining your high standards. And yeah, think like a deer, take home a deer; it makes sense to me. Kia kaha.
Thanks mate, everything you mentioned is exactly what I was trying to portray in this film. One the things I stress to hunters, especially young ones, is chase the adventure not the trophy. Its like focusing just on the destination and not the journey. The journey is where all the real magic happens! Keep Charging mate!
Apologies about delayed reply mate don't have the comment notifications on. Oh mate it was heart breaking for sure!! I know a hunter who showed me photos of a helicopter illegally dropping hunters off in that exact spot a year later. All the best mate!
Going out on a limb here and saying this is probably the best hunting vid ive ever watched, well done on the stag a well deserved trophy and an amazing story to go with. Keep them going and keep producing awesome content, cheers👍🏻
Appreciate the respect mate, just trying do my part to help the hunting community achieve greater status and respect in society. There's something so special about looking at an animal that represents so many amazing memories. Its all about looking back on your life when your 80 years old with a smile ear to ear thinking about all the magical memories created and experiences had in the mountains. Keep charging mate!
Nice stag and a great effort put in to claim him.. Hopefully the next generation of hunters decide to take care of the lovely land but it's up to us to show them the way. Those helicopters need to be caught and given the what o. But money talks which beats the walks... Keep up the great work cheers
Couldn't agree more mate, experienced hunters need to act as role models for the up and coming generations. That's why everything I do in the hunting community (rod n rifle writer, solo backpack hunter, cinematography, wildlife photography) is all centered around portraying hunting in a positive light, 100%! For us as a community to gain respect, power & positive change we can't afford to live without high ethics, morals and standards due to the fact our progressive society will eat us alive if we display inhumane and unethical practices. Your not wrong about the helicopters, they are crafty and money makers!Keep charging mate!
Another epic video mate! You always do well capturing the reasons we hunt and our drive to be out there in the wilderness. Look forward to the next adventure. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more mate! Hunting is so much about the country we get to call home for a short period of time and the majestic animals that inhabit such rugged topography. Shooting an animal is just a bonus, adventure first, trophy last! Keep Charging mate!
Well done, that stag was well and truly earnt but the real trophy is your video. Really enjoyed that. I share your values and don't worry I'm sure there are a more than a few hunters left that do as well. Thanks for sharing
Your dead right and I'm glad you can see what the real trophy is, the amazing memories created in the Southern Alps. I'll really hope so, we need to increase our (hunting community) social status which can only be done through sound ethics and morals. Keep charging mate and creating those memories!
Thanks mate, I'm all about the journey and not the destination. You certainly won't be seeing me in a chopper any time soon as the walk ins are where the character building occurs haha
@@bendb_wildaboutnz they can get you into some legal spots that not many walk into but yer we walk in as much as we can you feel a sense of achievement
@@robertshuttleworth Yeah for sure, once my body can't handle the massive walk ins the choppers will be used. I've used a chopper once into the Landsborough for the Tahr ballot and made me feel like I didn't deserve to be in there. I'm slightly crazy mate, the harder the better. I've got to remember it's each to their own! haha
Appreciate the respect mate, something I'm big on with any content published online is "what you see is what you get in real life". I truly love the simple act of being able to breathe air of the planet we live on. Stay safe mate & Keep Charging!
Great video mate.loved it from start to finish. One of the best with the best attitude. I will follow your videos.hope u inspire some young fellas to get into what u do.
You hit the nail on the head there, inspiring others to chase those epic adventures is one of many motivating factors to create these films. Less technology and more nature is the key for the younger generation!
Great video, really loved it. Just getting about in that country is hard but to film well in there too is really impressive. Congratulations on your lovely stag and thanks for another great film.
Only those that have walked that country know how truly challenging it is. We Kiwi's are so lucky to have such 1st class wilderness to hunt in and its awesome to be able to portray is aura and beauty! Cheers Mate, love the story behind it and the country it was shot in, epic! Keep Charging mate!
Cheers Mate, glad your enjoying the articles, love writing them and being apart of the R&R team. Most definitely mate, I was down that way 6 months ago without a rifle but keen as to explore with a rifle some day!
Fark just came across this! Semi gutted but actually pretty stoked for you bro, 99% sure this is the same stag I passed up last year before lockdowns and bla bla, he was still too soft to shoot, good to see he went to a good fulla, awesome viewing keep it up man!
Oh no way! Message me on FB and we'll see if it was. Proper hard yards getting in there be interested to hear how you got in! Cheers mate, love traditional backpack hunting as you truly earn your animals. Keep charging mate!
Awesome stuff Ben👍🏽. I know how you feel re the disappointment of witnessing dishonest machine operators squeezing a buck. However, your winning attitude is commendable & end of day you get sooo much more doing what you do. Thanks for sharing with such honest& real photography bra 👊🏽
Shot brutha, it's one of the hardest things to mental comprehend, having helicopters operate illegally on public land. They can cover so much ground in such a short period of time, not to mention there are so real cowboys chasing dollar signs by conducting unethical & illegal operations. Hopefully I can get some justice, working with DOC to do so! Truly hope you and your awesome family are doing well! Keep charging brutha!
Hi Ben, just stumbled across your channel. Enjoyed the video, and scenery shots. Being a coaster living in Australia, and not been home for a couple years i was feeling a bit home sick again.... hopefully soon. One thing i would like to comment on is your idea of not showing where you are. I totally understand exact locations, but i feel there is really no secret location, especially on the coast and in areas like that. I have only been into there myself once, about 25 or so years ago, and that was flying in from the east coast for a quick overnighter on the valley floor. Not in any wilderness areas i might point out, if they were even around then. My point is it didn’t take much for me to work out what area you were in so trying to hide it has no point. I dont believe you are going to see more people in a place like that because its been shown in videos. Theres only limited people out there prepared to put in that sort of effort, and they are most likely already in there also at some time or another. Anyway, just my view and nothing against what you are doing. Looking forward to watching your other vids and new ones in the future. Thanks mate.
Yeah mate, I know full well if you have been to that spot you'll figure it out. I can watch a video/see a picture and know the area just on vegetation. I would rather someone have to do the leg work to figure it out vs seeing it on youtube or national television and have to do no leg work to figure out where good animals are. Not showcasing a spot at the core of it is, I want a young up and coming hunter to learn how to hunt in the best way possible, boots on the ground. Nothing is more valuable than time in the hills and going through that right of passage. Additionally, hunters are relying less and less on beating the feet, rather, dialing up the chopper and getting into hard to access country quick & easy. WARO / Fly in & out hunters are my biggest competitor and have ruined many hunts for me, hence, I really don't want to give any unnecessary intel to chopper operators / fly in hunters. I dream of a backcountry free of helicopters or at least areas, so I can feel as close as I can to those pioneering deerstalkers of the earlier 1900's. Nonetheless, appreciate the open dialogue, certainly understand your point of view. Keep charging mate!
Cheers mate, love creating those memories so I have something to truly be happy about in my retirement days. Good to see your getting after it and creating those memories! Keep charging mate!
So NZ has wilderness areas set up throughout the South Island. In those areas, one of the legal rules is Helicopters are NOT able to drop off or pick up anyone, essential not allowed to ever touch the ground in a wilderness area. The only time you can is during the Tahr Ballot where temporary landing permits are granted. Outside of that it's completely illegal to ever land in the wilderness area. Outside of a wilderness area landings are allowed and heli operators have to obtain landing permits for specific sites which they apply for. DOC has heaps of information about wilderness areas.
