    Been following this channel for years and learned a lot from your videos. Just bought a beautiful 1997 FLST SPECIAL (Heritage Softail) with 16k original miles and already love it. Put 100 miles on it the first day I owned it. Thanks for all the bike reviews...

    Have a 2006 Heritage Classic FI and absolutely love it. One of my favorite bikes I have ever ridden. The best way to describe it is that it feels like an extension of yourself while riding. So comfortable, the only two complaints I can even think of is; 1) I wish it had a 6 gear transmission/gearbox....always want to shift to 6th gear when on the open highway (but not a huge deal) and 2) if you ride aggressively in a turn or curve, you can easily drag your floorboards. I’ve ridden sport bikes for years (my last bike was a 2010 Honda CBR 1000rr) before test riding this beauty and I never turned back. I plan on keeping mine forever, classic style and sounds absolutely amazing!

    Heritage is the best handling bike HD ever made. One problem, it sucks in tight curves in the mountains. Too low and it will drag bad in tight turns. I had a 1994 Heritage and now I ride a 2010 Heritage. As far as the windshield, you will want one when you get caught in a good rain storm.

    YES it does have cruise control. If you will look under the throttle by the cable lines, you will see a thumb wheel. I can barely see the edge of it in the video. At least, t hat's what I think I see. Anyway, if you turn that thumb wheel towards you with your Index finger, it will lock the throttle in it's current position, allowing you to take your hand away with out losing speed. When you want to release the throttle, just turn the thumb wheel with your thumb, and "Bob's your Uncle"

    • @kenmacleod9589

    I am sorry to say I own a 2018 soft tail with the 107 engine. Been nothing but headaches since I got it. 400 miles and the rear brakes blew out. 2700 miles the oil light came on for a possible glitch in the sensors. 2800 miles and back in the shop for brake issues again. I get a round around from the dealership and a headache from the factory. Does the word “lemon” come to mine!

    • @mahjamarie2214
      @mahjamarie2214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I AGREE "LEMON" !! Same thing I'm dealing with!! Bought 2018 Heritage 107 new off showroom floor to avoid potential costly repairs from a used bike- I've had mine in 4 times for same issue - oil from breather all over side of bike and saddlebag. Dealer tells me it's this, it's that, puts bandaids on and sends me on my way- now 2yr warranty is up- It's at 12,000 miles- I still owe $17,000 -bike vibrates, oil blows all over my bike, it never wants to go into neutral amongst other clutch issues, and I can't get an honest answer as to why this is happening to a BRAND NEW HD!!!
      Sept 2020: So my bike wouldn’t start and I’m a 1000 miles from my dealer- had it picked up and transported to H-D dealer in OH- they diagnose bike; needed new battery and continued to check noise/vibration issue I was having- Come to find out belt tension was too tight which created premature bearing failure therefore my rear wheel had an inch of play- My H-D dealer back home in FL apparently should’ve checked this during any one of my service checks (1000mi) (5000mi) etc - Never were remarks recorded that a belt adjustment was made - So how did the belt tighten itself??? $1300 out of “my” pocket for their negligence but at least I didn’t eat pavement!! 🙏

    You should be using the rear brake more than the front brake. The rear brake is what allows you to slow maneuver and in a bad situation the rear brake and downshifting will allow you to slow faster and more controlled in many situations.

Getting ready for riding season then I blew out my Knee , not from the bike. Sucks cause the weather is finally warming up and can't ride now. Hopefully I will be riding within a month after surgery. No, the new heritage has lost its soul. The modern headlights on the new ones look like if someone where to put LED projector headlights on a Chevelle. You just don't do that.

      @@Jisstifer83626 The leds look odd to me also but that’s the way everything is going, and they are way better if you actually want to see at night. I think after awhile they will look normal to me. I think they look way better than the projector leds on the touring models

    Rode a Softail (2015, 18K miles) recently...hated it. Heavy, ungainly, uncomfortable forward controls...and no highway pegs. Also not a fan of spoked wheels and what looked like tube tires.

    My 88 flstc w 118,000 mi is a 2 finger braker, also ,DYK you can put up to a 2003 motor and a 6 speed tranny in an 86 To 2003 heritage although the blockhead is a more reliable motor , after 99 they started having to use Chinese parts.(wich I refuse to abide)

      @@honestlynate7922 you probably should start off with a used sportster it is in your range, but i doubt you will find a Heritage softtail for that, and a softtail is not a beginner bike.

    40k prob gonna need new cam tensioner, they tend to b shot at anything over 40k, cheap fix if its caught early. Most replace the chinsey chain setup with retrofit gear drive thete awsome but there like $750...

    • @jacobmckee5862
      @jacobmckee5862 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, looking at the cam chain tensioner is always a good idea on these bikes, mine needed replacing at 20,xxx

    • @Johnny96ri
      @Johnny96ri 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cam chain tensioner shoes, counterbalancer on a Softail. Also, if it has the "self adjusting" the primary chain tensioner, pitch it for the old manual adjuster. (It's available as a Screaming Eagle part.)
      Personally, not a fan of Twin Cams. Sportsters forever!
