Veritas Twice: No, he wrote translator and he meant translator. That's not being nit picky. That is ** making up * something to nit pick about. Why would you post something so mental?
Anthony Starfield: While the poster's meaning was evident, it's not "mental" to point out the contrast between these 2 terms, which according to a succinct explanation on languagescientific.com is "only the difference in the medium: the interpreter translates orally, while the translator interprets written text." Actually, the interpreter was doing some minimal note-taking, but seemed to do a stellar job.
This interpreter is loads better than the google talks woman. This should be the most viewed video. I actually play this video in the background as I tidy my room.
She is the most adorable person I have ever seen. So well mannered - I love the way she keeps looking at the interviewer when the translation is taking place. The translator is excellent- I hope she is always with her. At 67 I am still learning new tidying methods. Does it Spark Joy - that is the way to go. Love her
I've listened to a bunch of her interviews and though I don't know any Japanese this seems to have been the best interpreter. The comments from people who understand the language confirms what I was thinking. Great interview!
Came here to cleanse my eyes and ears after some episodes of the "Get Organized with The Home Edit" show on Netflix. Good for "The Home Edit" that what they do works for them and their clients but it's so standoffish how rich celebs evade their own messes, glamorous hoards only the wealthy can pull off and hire people to create cold and surgical spaces for the satisfaction of the sight, but where's the emotional connection? I praise Marie Kondo for helping me slowly build a bond with everything I own which also helps me to consider before buying something if it will actually bring me joy. Her humanist approach is a healthy alternative to the organization of our homes and has a more profound impact when we reflect and wonder what decisions spark joy in our lives. Remember that the Konmari method is nowhere near apathetic minimalism contemporary trends, is a method that expects you to be respectful and grateful for your house and belongings. Not to just throw away but to embrace and organize your crazy collections when they truly spark joy in you.
No wonder I love walking into my house. I started cleaning up my act years ago. My home is so peaceful and full of joy. Thanks to God. I love Marie's tidying methods and was able to apply them in my bedroom drawers. They were already tidy but her method in the best. God bless her.
I'm so happy and grateful to have learned Ms. Marie Kondo only though through online. She really helped me and those around me not only materialistically but also emotionally! I realized that I was shrugging off the dust and the grandized view of my parents when I saw how few stuff which I thought were valuable which I received from my parents were actually not. I felt great in a new way.
Great interviewer! Very calm and responds to the flow of the conversation and still poses her questions that she prepared. She understands the focus is on the guest, which also is reflected in her black clothing. Great job!
Everything about this is amazing. I've told tons of people about this, and they are all the same - their eyes open wide and they proclaim "That's exactly what I need to do!" I'm a rough 'n tough guy, but this is serene enlightenment.
Wow, lucky New Yorkers (: Marie Kondo is such a positive person. I just love listening to her, even if I can already guess most of her answers by now (=
What a fantastic presentation! I have been inspired to use Marie Kondo’s method as it makes so much sense...the order (clothes, books...)...the connecting with the joy an object gives...the gratitude for faithful service of things you let go of. I start with my clothes tomorrow morning, as it is now time for me to sleep so I can start the new week, the new day, the new me refreshed. Thank you for the wonderful Q&A session...very insightful questions were asked. Thank you, Marie and The Japan Society of NYC!
I'd be interested to see how the KonMari method can be applied to our digital life. I feel like my computer and inbox are utterly cluttered. . . . sometimes more cluttered than my physical surroundings.
Yes absolutely! Exactly my thoughts. I already did almost all my pictures, texts, inbox... I'm a photographer so I've got TONS of photos and other stuff like business documents and so on. I already started trying kind of the konmari method here. At first I sorted all pictures of clients that I need to keep and put the pictures in folders with their names. These I didn't sort out a lot as I'm not the one to decide whether they spark joy. Then I put all my pictures I've done for my portfolio, to learn, for fun or work with models in just one folder to see how much of them I have. And now I started to import them to Lightroom and give 5 stars to the ones I want to keep. The others I just delete and thank them. Also I am studying graphic design at the moment and had a similar approach concerning those files. I just created a folder with the stuff I want to keep and put the things that spark joy in there. For my inbox I also decided which stuff I needed to keep and put them in folders. Then I cleared my inbox. And every time I get a newsletter now I unsubscribe from it if it doesn't spark joy. Maybe I could give you at least some new thoughts, digital is very tough!
i tried but the KonMari method in that way but unfortunately I wasn't able to put my computer back together after organizing all the little parts by category.... DAMN YOU KONMARI! You let me down.
This may be a very late comment but you can try to implement the “Joy at Work” version of the Konmari method. That one is geared more towards work related stuff (which includes digital clutter)
Marie is a genius, and she is so sweet and cute. I love how she represents the best in the Japanese culture. And I LOVE her method - it's extremely helpful. Now we need somebody to invent a method to make humans stop littering.
That (littering) must be a type of mental illness.. where one feels so disconnected with the world around them that they loose all respect for themselves. I used to walk around with a bag.. picking up trash, and muttering insults and getting angry at disrespectful people who littered...but one day I had an epiphany. I began to have compassion for those poor ignorant souls that were so far from the source of their own joy... so now I just walk along with my bag, I serve nature and my surroundings. It's a choice... I now consciously choose Joy. As for the litterers... Karma happens. Clearly World Peace starts WITHIN ourselves. So now, far less anger , .far more Peace and Joy.
I was taught many of these methods as a child in Australia. Mind you I’m not so good at putting them into practice. I’m watching now for inspiration lol 😊
I love hearing Marie Kondo's voice! A few of the clips I have seen of her, her voice is completely overrun by the interpreter. She has a delightful voice and she occasionally sprinkles in a few English phrases. This interpreter seems very good too.
I was brought up with the saying "A place for everything and everything in its place". If you buy only what you need then there will be no clutter. I also think being paranoidly tidy is so important in Japan because the homes are so awfully small.

Sam Calcutt you don't - you only tidy your own things, as you have to decide what sparks joy in yourself. I suspect that if you wanted a clean toilet.. and you had no brush... procuring a brush might indeed Spark Joy... of course.. not ALL toilet brushes are created equal.. soooo chose the one which sparks the MOST Joy. : ) I have definately tossed an old grubby brush for a nicer, more streamlined one. I doubt a dirty toilet would spark too much Joy.
Tania PinkSky Yes you’re spot on. There are a lot of honorific expressions in the Japanese language which reflects its extremely polite culture. I actually think that this translator is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Her translation was precise and captured the nuances perfectly.
Truth :( I prefer Lida more (the latter translator of her and more professional in my opinion) she translates every single words Marie said and even with the same amount of energy Marie expressed
Some would say that women collect two. We collect make up, jewelry, purses and shoes. I also collect sunglasses and Jackets. Not to mention all my face and hair stuff. If you have three or more things that do the same thing, I would consider that a collection. On the other hand man collect tools, cards Star Wars figurines. We don’t really see those things other than tools being useful for something.
Any time I see a person outwardly this “sweet” and “cute,” I can’t help but think they are hiding the most terrible temper. And that’s what makes people such as this likable and interesting, btw.
I hear you... but I think that is an important part of the process... it really does take some initial commitment if one is serious about changing one's life after all. I found that once I emptied it all on the floor I just wanted to keep going. I couldn't afford to dally . Once I was committed to tidying it sort of took on a life of its own. The end result was SO freeing... It truly surprised me. I will say though.. I only did My own clothes. BUT.. as Hubby started observing what I was up to he began to catch on.. and to my amazement.. 2 large bags of his old winter clothes ended up in the Donate pile. I do believe that an inspired attitude is contagious.
The host doesnt have much enthusiasm the entire time the interview went. She just asks and when Marie gives answer she just replied shortly and then change into totally another questions without any linking between She doesnt even thank Marie for the talk, the least of thing a host can do. Omg
The translator did a great job!. Her name is Yuno Imai.

She is Precious!♡
That is a perfect adjective for her.. yes. : )
I can’t take the cute!! Marie is adorable.
I want to see a collaboration with her and "Hoarders"
Yes, I'd be interested in that, especially like an on-going six month collaboration between a Hoarder and Marie Kondo being the coach.
It's (kinda) happening! She has a new NETFLIX show!!
@Brenda White
You just linked the video we're watching right now
that’s rude, Marie does not need to deal with that!!
Been watching a lot of videos about her and her methods, currently halfway with the book and I couldn't wait to start the process! Thank you #KonMari
I am a bit obsessed with this. Also has started an interest in Japanese culture for me.
so tidying up is a spiritual journey too :O I'm doing it right now
Thank You I'm inspired about your method.

I like the way the interview went through. Very interesting info.
Inspires me to learn Japanese
Yeah, It's a beautiful language
would like a home tour of konmari ' s home.😊
She is so sweet! I love her method.

Kriss Kawaii Oh Jesus.
Japanese women are so refined- soft speaking voice and gentility. i love their culture
Not all japanese women...there is a variety in that area...
But thank you! lol
Somehow I doubt you know much of anything about “their” culture.
mija : you are brilliant.
I do like the 'calm' and 'respect' they tend to use in everything they do. It seems like a very intentional way to live, and a good way to interact with the world.
She's so cute
+takeru51 OMG! Yes, she is! She is such a lady and I just love her mannerisms. She's so petite and adorable!
The interpreter is a genius!
She calls herself a freak... But what ppl don't realize is, we "freaks" end up being the most successful in life.
That is so true.

Great video. I think it needs more volume. I'm watching on a phone in a truck. A loud truck. I will be subscribing
yay my japanese is becoming more fluent i can understand most of what she said before the translator put it in english :)

I suspect that if you wanted a clean toilet.. and you had no brush... procuring a brush might indeed Spark Joy... of course.. not ALL toilet brushes are created equal.. soooo chose the one which sparks the MOST Joy. : )
I have definately tossed an old grubby brush for a nicer, more streamlined one.
I doubt a dirty toilet would spark too much Joy.
What a stiff crowd. She was at least trying to be a little humorous.
I heard them laughing!
Ms. Kondo speaks showers of syllables, then the translator speaks a few words.
downbntout perhaps Japanese is not a very efficient language? Ironic really. Uses many words to discuss having less stuff 😊
The wife did not spark joy. Time to sell or donate
How do you Konmari with adhd? Having all that stuff in one place is a distraction quicksand.
having ADHD myself the Konari method has been a godsend.
I literally threw everything out in my apartment. I can breathe!
She very sweet!
Delicate cherry blossom on the outside, inside as hard as steel: the ideal japanese woman. She's impressive
I wonder if she has a specific folding table at home....🤔
Some would say that women collect two. We collect make up, jewelry, purses and shoes. I also collect sunglasses and Jackets. Not to mention all my face and hair stuff. If you have three or more things that do the same thing, I would consider that a collection. On the other hand man collect tools, cards Star Wars figurines. We don’t really see those things other than tools being useful for something.
Some translation seems missing.
seriously, how big is the translator's notebook? lol
Legendas em Português ou Espanhol por favor!
JAPANESE PEOPLE TALK AS FAST AS RAPPERS WHY DID I EVER DROP THAT CLASS
No entiendo lo que habla como se puede traducir en español gracia
Su primer libro ya esta traducido al espanyol.
CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM, BUCKOS!
Men tend to collect things.... yessss... oh those old toys my husband have..
Have you tried it on XXL t shirts and jeans? It Ain't the same shit.
Actually.....I folded 2X / size 22 women's clothing in this style and I can attest that it DOES work, and the fabric was flimsy with some of them.
Any time I see a person outwardly this “sweet” and “cute,” I can’t help but think they are hiding the most terrible temper.
And that’s what makes people such as this likable and interesting, btw.
I remember someone saying in another comment section they visualize her going into a private room to just cuss.

So fucking scared of piling up all the clothes in my house!

Can’t believe she said tidying dilemma
The Audacity.
The host doesnt have much enthusiasm the entire time the interview went. She just asks and when Marie gives answer she just replied shortly and then change into totally another questions without any linking between
She doesnt even thank Marie for the talk, the least of thing a host can do. Omg
近藤さん⁽⁽٩(๑˃̶͈̀ ᗨ ˂̶͈́)۶⁾⁾いつもありがとう〜
Cleaning while I listen. My mess is indicating my arrogance. My arrogance is indicating my blessings
She's sort of like the Waldorf School philosophy in action
Toys! And Japan is famous for making toys!
