The results actually surprised me because when the battery is dead, holding it to the button should start it.
So the deactivation of the fob is really that strong. 🤔
Anyway, I hope this video helps answer some questions out there!

I left a question in the comments but I'll ask again here.... I misplaced my key fob but still have the little key (from inside the fob) attached to my key chain. I can unlock the door but can I start the car with just the little metal key inside the fob.

If your battery goes dead. You place the back of the fob to the push to start. It will recognize the fob then you use the push to start as usual. I seen this trick and took my battery out to try it. Works great. Good video man.

Hey Brian. Saw your other video on deactivating and reactivating the FOB . I use it all the time now and really appreciated the heads up. Re starting car with low fob battery. I have a 2017 RAV hybrid and when I purchased the vehicle new the dealer advised me that even if the fob battery was too low to open the door I could use the manual key on the door and the FOB would still have enough residual juice for starting if you held it up against start button.while pushing.it.. Just in case I also carry a spare replacement battery in the car since you can also use the end of the emergency key on the small slot on the top of the fob to open it for replacing the battery. Toyota is just miles ahead of everyone with these smart multi use designs.

Hi Bryan: Nice tube! However, if the “dirtbags” are waiting near you car to scan the fob, once you activate the fob to start the car they can grab the code then! I just had my Lexus RX stolen, June 4th. I didn’t know about deactivating the fob or I would have done it as my RX was parked on the street next to my house when I was getting the driveway paved. Otherwise, it is always in my garage.

The battery for the Toyota fob is dime size CR3022 and seems to be used in most fobs like the Honda and the garage door opener. Good to have a half dozen on hand with all the other extra batteries.. If nothing else, like you can't remember how to deactivate the fob wrapping it in aluminum foil also keeps it from receiving or transmitting. Battery life varies based on use. For the fob used everyday ours lasted about four years. The second fob is unused. Battery life TBD. ==> 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Hey nice video again man! Just wondering is your truck lock when you use the key to open it? Or did you unlock alarm first before using the key to open it?Why is your alarm not alarming you that someone open your door? Thank you

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Thanks! Ok so if you’re speaking about this video, the truck was locked (the fob was deactivated) and I used the key to get in.
The alarm wouldn’t go off because I used the trucks key to get inside. The alarm only goes off if the truck is opened without the key or remote. That counts as a break in.
The slide out key is made specifically for my truck. Each key fob has a specific key to each car. Same as a house key.
But for every day life, I just tap any button to reactivate my fob before leaving the house, and then simply enjoy the convenience of grabbing the door handle to unlock it thanks to my smart key. Hope that helps!

I have always used this method each time my battery runs down. However, today, it was raining heavily and all attempt to use the method failed.
I reasoned that the battery in the FOB was cold and so I opened the FOB and placed the battery directly on my phone which was a bit hot to warm the battery for about 30seconds, closed the FOB, place it against the push-to-start button again and it immediately started. Best of luck if you find yourself in similar condition but go a replacement immediately.

If your fob battery is dead and you get into the car with the key, you just place the Toyota symbol on the fob over the start button and the ignition switches on. Then press the start button and the vehicle starts.
Had to do this recently as my fob has lost it sync to the vehicle to unlock and lock the vehicle.

    • @poluticon

Lol "they " don't need to insert anything 🤣 If they want it and have knowledge they will get it. Everything you own is sending signals that can be and are being copied and manipulated. Not only can "they" take over your car remotely , they can walk past you or sit a mile away depending on there tools) and take the signals of your cards, garage door, refrigerator, air conditioner, and TV remote ETC ETC ETC And you allow it and pay outrageous amount of money for all the ,"SMART SHIT " Even your vacuum can be used to spy on you if it has any Bluetooth, wifi, smart panel, talks and says it's finished charging etc. Your wallet is filled with signals and hackable information. Carry your key fob ,phones, gate card entry, credit cards etc in a protective case. Hide your garage opener in a special protective bag and don't buy shit that has you agree to permissions. That is the absolute bare minimum of protection if your worried. But most likely wanted to talk about your car.
Honestly I've done it even lazier and just called AAA to pick the vehicle up lol especially if you create a new account and haven't received your permanent card yet. 😂 ITS to easy . Getting past there so called security measures is a breeze and the drivers can except tips. My point is you can't do shit to stop someone if they r after your car and its personal . Not someone with half a brain and skill

Hi Brian, I have a 2016 Hilux 2.8D automatic. the engine start/stop button doesn't work. I recharged the car battery and the key fob battery is good to unlock/lock doors. Back in May this year I had found a video with a trick to start the truck but unfortunately can't put my hands on it today. I vaguely remember it was a short succession of pressing the start button releasing it and then again with or w/o pressing on the brake pedal. just like the last time this occurred I've noticed the brake pedal harder than anytime before when I could start it. last time with the trick at one time the brake pedal became slightly softer and the truck started then and again after that. Any idea that could get me out of this before the local mechanic tells me I need a few new expensive parts? Stuck near Cape York, northern part of Australia right now. Cheers mate!

Personally, I deactivated the proximity detector of the car and removed the battery from my fob. That way it can't be accidentally re-actived in my pocket. Also no one can steal the car with the fob anywhere in the yard/house areas. The only way is to pick the lock, plug in and program a new key right there. No one can stop that AFAIK. So how do I start the car? Just like a dead battery, place fob against the start/stop button till it beeps and then push it. Been doing it for 5 years so far, never fails. I'm surprised no one has listed the steps to de-activate the proximity detector. I can list the steps here. It's easy using the unlock button of the remote and opening/closing of the driver door.

@@mikhailp7297 Here are the steps to disable the proximity detector. I believe I found them on a Prius forum.
Note - close/open means close or open the driver's door. Unlock means push the unlock button on the fob remote. Start with driver's door unlocked.
      1. Unlock once
      2. Open once
      3. Unlock twice
      4. Close, Open, Close, Open
      5. Unlock twice
      6. Close, Open, Close
That's it! Now when you approach the car and grab the door handle the door will stay locked. Use the fob to unlock it or like me, remove the fob battery and get a real key made for the door.

@@runningbuffalo4326 Yes you do what you can. If you are new to the Toyota brand, all I can say is, Toyota culture goes deep. Kaizen (always getting better over time) is a big deal to Toyota and it’s true team members. It is a family. We love Toyota’s because of their reliability, dependability, and durability.
Toyota is the only brand I’ve seen really listen to it’s customers and have a gateway to communicate with them. It’s also the only brand I’ve seen honor such a huge recall for so many years (the truck frame recall).
So if you’re on the fence, I’m always here to guide you and inform you. Deactivating the key is a very strong form of theft protection. But with almost every single new Toyota coming standard with Safety Connect, and many with remote connect, the vehicles location is monitored vis GPS which helps with recovery, God forbid needed.
I hope you watch my video “Attention all Toyota Owners” and read the comments and have faith in giving the brand a try. You might stay for life!

@@brianruperti Yeah. Something like that. Where I’m from, Continental Subaru and Honda started a subscription based battery program with a company called ‘foreverstart’ where you pay $75 every three years which apparently covers the battery and the auto start. Steve Lehto’s channel informed me about Toyota’s practice on the key fob thing. I think they are backpedaling on it due to the bad press they’re getting on it. From what I heard, it doesn’t roll onto the next owner so if someone buys it used, they have to immediately start with the subscription pay for the key fob. If it was on the phone, or something third party like the XM radio it would be a different story.
