As President of Bulgaria since 2016, Radev has been a vocal advocate of the tightening of Bulgaria’s borders and the strengthening of relations with Russia whilst maintaining active membership of NATO. Previously the Commander of the Bulgarian Air Force, he is a qualified pilot and holds a Doctor of Military Sciences degree in the field of air combat tactical training. He will be speaking on ‘Security Challenges Facing Europe’.

The best example of president who are trying to unite the one of the oldest European community, ready to sacrifice his own prosperity in the name of cultural and historical values. Which seems to be impossible, but he trying to achieve it while the geo political and regional political organizations became voices of the world leading corporation interests. Body language and eyes look are giving you enough feelings and thoughts to decide whether is honest or not.

Bulgaria is led by government, not by president. He has only representative function and has nothing to do with leading role.
This speech is a matter of populism and represents Radev's own ambitions, rather the people of Bulgaria.
The President is responsible for conducting Bulgaria's foreign policy, and is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces. This speech was mostly about international security, which seems fitting for his role.

Bulgaria is led by government, not by president.It is parlamentarian democracy The president is ,and remains formality coming up from the demand of constitution of the Republic. .....just my opinion .
Up to now, 30 years democracy no president has ever had any significant role in taking any decision . He can talk, stop the implementation of certain lows for short period but he is not able to do anything against the Parlament.
@@lrbib6828 Although Bulgaria is a Parliamentary Democracy, the Constitution does quite cleary grant the President (and Vice President) many enumerated powers.
From the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria:
"Article 92. (1) The President shall be the head of state. He shall embody the unity of the nation and
shall represent the Republic of Bulgaria in international relations.
(2) The President shall be assisted in the activities thereof by a Vice President. "
"Article 98. The President of the Republic shall perform the following functions:
1. schedule elections of a National Assembly and of bodies of local self-government, and appoint a
date for conduct of a national referendum, where the National Assembly has passed a resolution on
this;
2. address messages to the nation and the National Assembly;
3. conclude international treaties in the cases specified by statute;
4. promulgate the laws;
5. acting on a motion by the Council of Ministers, endorse changes in the boundaries and the centres
of the territorial units;
6. acting on a motion by the Council of Ministers, appoint and remove from office the chiefs of the
diplomatic missions and the permanent representatives of the Republic of Bulgaria to international
organizations, and receive the credentials and the letters of recall of the foreign diplomatic
representatives to Bulgaria;
7. appoint and remove from office other civil servants specified by statute;
8. confer orders and medals;
9. decree the acquisition, resumption, release from, and deprivation of, Bulgarian citizenship;
10. afford asylum;
11. exercise the right to pardon;
12. forgive uncollectible state receivables;
13. name places of national importance and nucleated settlements;
14. brief the National Assembly on basic issues within the range of the powers thereof. "
"Article 100. (1) The President shall be the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the
Republic of Bulgaria.
(2) The President shall appoint and discharge the highest command personnel of the Armed Forces
and shall award the highest military ranks, acting on a recommendation by the Council of Ministers.
(3) The President shall preside over the Consultative Council on National Security, whereof the status
shall be established by statute.
(4) The President shall order general or partial mobilization on a motion by the Council of Ministers in
accordance with the law.
(5) The President shall declare a state of war in the event of an armed attack against Bulgaria or in
response to the need of urgent honouring of international commitments, or shall proclaim a state of
martial law or another state of emergency whenever the National Assembly is not in session. In such
cases, the National Assembly shall be convened forthwith to pronounce on the decision. "

He’s speaking about Gladstone and Disraeli and failed to mention what ultimately swayed the British government, namely, the Ottoman atrocities, or rather, the reports thereof, against Bulgarians (and Greeks alike). Why and wherefore? (I know he’s a politician but it’s not in anyone’s interest to omit this part of the sad truth about the Balkans.). Turkey?! What about Greece? What is he hoping to get out of a relationship with Turkey? Fewer migrants?

My honest assessment:
Exuberant narcissism.
Good public speaker.
Honest concern with security and the reluctance of European states investing in their security.
Overblown concern with security risk posed by economic migrants, while nothing to say about his country's gasman, Putin, and the anti-liberal leaderships in Hungary and Poland.
Completely wrong about public opinion of the EU, which in reality has never been better.
Wrong about a supposed European "Open Door Policy": in reality there is no such "policy". A lack of EU-level resources in tandem with overwhelmed individual states, does not equate to an open door policy.
Quite fluent in the art of grandstanding, regarding state security jargon and theory.
I don't think he's a good speaker, a bit slow and rather uninteresting. Probably because English is not his first language

His English is excellent, he just has a fairly strong accent. That's normal he lives in Bulgaria and speaks at least three other languages fluently (Bulgarian, German and Russian).

If you read a little bit of the Constitution of Bulgaria you will know that the president only have representative function, so he is doing his job very well.
