Sleep Token has a whole lore behind the band and its songs. A deity known as Sleep appeared to the lead singer in a dream and the four members are united in their worship of it. So, the band name itself is a clue. A token is an offering or tithe, so Sleep Token as a name essentially communicates that the band and its songs are an offering of worship to Sleep. There are a lot of theories around their lyrical subject matter and apparently much of it aligns with an ancient Norse legend of a goddess. I don’t know the specifics, but if Sleep is a goddess then applying that theory to all their lyrics would reveal a study in the most tumultuous, euphoric, loveless, loving, draining, fulfilling relationship.
If that’s the case and everything they’ve created is just part of the story of Sleep and Vessel’s relationship with her, then there’s a level of absolute genius in the writing in that each song’s lyrics are specific enough to reveal an aspect of the relationship or chapter in the lore yet ambiguous enough to be completely relatable to real-life situations for the listener. If you listen to Chokehold and envision he’s singing about Sleep, it works. If you listen again and envision some past relationship in your own life, chances are that works, too. I could be completely off-base, but if I’m even in the ballpark, the ability to write with those kind of guardrails while churning out evocative, piercing metaphors and have it all make sense in multiple contexts is something that goes beyond talent in my mind. Worship.

I spent the entire year trying to get this song out of my head. It's impossible. It's haunting, brilliant, damn near perfect.
A lot of people's favorite off the new album, well what's been released so far, is The Summoning but if I had to pick one it's Chokehold. Its just so beautiful and epic, I get goosebumps everything I hear it still.

Great reaction. Chokehold is my favorite Sleep Token song. I highly recommend the Will Ramos cover of this song and my second favorite song Alkaline. It also has a badass video.

Granite should be next. It's a straight banger. You cannot go wrong with any Sleep Token song. Just pick one.
The first verse made me think it was a song from the perspective of the axe. "When we were made, it was no accident" sounds like weapons. "So you keep me sharp and test my worth in blood" The monster had the axe in a chokehold.
All that said, I'm guessing it being metaphor makes more sense.

Vessel is the vocalist and he and the drummer are the only two permanent members of the band iirc, lastly you should check out Will Ramos’s cover of this, he fucking crushes it

Everytime this comes on, I think this has to be an MMA fighters entrance theme.
Most of their tracks seem to be about relationships to me. Nobody knows who they are, they're completely anonymous. We just know that the band comes from London. They all wear masks, they even wear black out body paint during shows so you can't identify them by tattoos or anything.
I think relationships is a surface level song meaning for bands like ST. There’s is some truly dark, metaphorical lyrical content in their lyrics.
Will Ramos from Lorna Shore did a vocal cover of this song, you guys should check it out, and if you haven't already, then I HIGHLY suggest that first you listen to his cover of "Hypnosis" (also by Sleep Token) because that was the video that gave Sleep Token their Popularity boost!

There isn’t much information about this band.. They’re two official musicians Vessel 1- Vocals, Vessel 2- Drums.. They are mysterious musicians from supposedly other bands.. Also they are British..

ST has everything. To pigeon hole them as a metal band is unfair. They have RnB and Pop tunes that fucking wreck anything in the mainstream. They apparently have a nu-metal track on the new album that I can't wait to hear.

I know intellectually that _"Vessel"_ is a talented and technically sound vocalist... But I just don't like how he sounds here... I'm TRYING to get into this band. I love their concept/gimmick/look... But I'm up and down with their sound.
It doesn't help that I REALLY like the Will Ramos cover of this song- I don't even care about the screams he added... I just think his voice/tempo/even the slower speed of the cover is better... If anyone is a worshipper of the Cult... chill out and don't attack me here, instead, give me a few tracks that you think will win me over some more... I am not a big fan, but am open to being one.

I'm Sleep Token's fan, so I'll try to recommend some songs that maybe you gonna like it: Dark Signs, Like That, Jaws, Vore, The Offering, Granite...I like how Vessel sounds, but it's very personal, and subjective to like it or not...hope you enjoy some of this songs!
