As a Finn I must say that after the first transition I was waiting excitedly for each transition's horrendous google translated titles. I'm always excited to see our weird videogame culture (and culture in general) from an outside perspective. Keep it up king.
What's the cultural explanation behind the (mostly) soulless civil worker grinding focus & the weirdness in social interaction most Finish and Germanic games have? Pathologic hit very close to home since I am from slavic country and are perfectly familiar with the folklore references towards the Dostoevsky-like gloomy realities & helplessness against the world, dark humour & irony\brutal satire, and humanitarianism that could only be achieved via the sacrifices of others, but Ghotic 2 on the other hand somehow felt even more artificial than the entirety of farming simulator 2018 with sallow lore and fantasy props being there for the sake of being fantasy game rather than fulfilling any actual purpose. Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinise, Japanese, and even Korean cultural references waren't that hard to comprehend, but the Germanic....? I honestly refuse to believe that Truck drives can't wait to get home only to play Euro Truck simulator and that comes from the mouth of a Finance student that enjoys playing finance management games. That one demonic Finish folklore game about “the bride of the pig”, “the well flower demon” and the lesson about bullying was hard to digest, it wasn't hard to gasp but unbelievably hard to digest.
Fun fact, the game isn't actually set in Finland, but a fictional country called Stolland (of which Stalburg is the capital) sandwiched between Finland and Sweden.
@@leDespicable Looking at the map that's definitely part of Denmark in the lower left corner. Finland only shares a small part of its northern border with Sweden.
Hey you're that guy from the game essay thread. This was a great video. Honestly that's how videos like this should be, no needless fluff just to the point and consistent. It makes games that I would never try seem interesting, it also helps that your voice is pretty nice to listen to and not grating.
This game is in a whole different league compared to other games even slightly reminiscent of it. AND at the same time it showcase that Source game engine is still holding up even as of the time of this writing 2022. IMHO nothing does bleak urban decay better than Source.
