    Finally.
    Someone tells how to power up the unit. Only took 4 or 5 videos to find that information. It's not in the manual and other tutorials leave it out.

      Right ?!?!!? Glad the video helped out - I guess it makes sense on some level, the new model is the same way - for me, it's no big deal because I run my G1X on a pedal board with one power switch and everything stays plugged in

      @NS TCG ... That is a REALLY dicey question. My initial response is NO but that comes w/ qualifications. I had a buddy a few years ago, great guitar player and luthier, who had a massive pedal board built to HIS own professional specs. He had $1500 in that board easy, maybe closer to $2K. Functionally, just about everything on his board is in this Zoom pedal - but there was NO comparison in terms of sonic quality. Dedicated professional pedals will beat this Zoom pedal all day long, and the ability to tweak-n-tune on stage is SO much easier with a full board of physical pedals in front of you. So he's a professional who would never use this pedal playing "live on stage." I'm not a professional, I play with a group of guys who aren't professionals, and we don't have pro equipment (except the drummer, he's got a killer setup.) Point being, I would happily play "live on stage" with this pedal because that's about the "level" of the guys and equipment I play with. Could a pro hear the difference? Probably so. Will anyone else, given the fact that we're just a group of older dudes banging around trying to play music, probably not. Which is precisely why I have THIS PEDAL and not a full blown pedal board - LOL !!!

    You should be able to record if you plug into an audio input device such as a Focusrite 2i2 and record via DAW software. It will record whatever comes out of the Zoom G1Xon. Hopefully I'm correct.

    • @TheImageDoctor
      @TheImageDoctor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep - for mono recording, just run a standard instrument cable from the Output jack into an audio interface. However, the G1xon does produce a stereo (L/R) signal, so you can also come out of the Zoom w/ a 1/4" stereo splitter cable into 2 channels of your audio interface for an even richer, fuller sound.

    • @georgewilkins7877
      @georgewilkins7877 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Image Doctor, many thanks. So the loops and whatever else goes down the output cable can be recorded onto computer. Extraordinary value for money. All that for the cost of a mid-priced pedal.

  • @FairPlay0007
    @FairPlay0007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Can you set a rythm, make loops, and use effects all at the same time? It has a bass simulator too, it would be like REALLY good if you can use that effect while recording a loop.

    I bought two of these (one as a present) because of all the good reviews.
    What the reviews do not tell, is that most effects are quite noisy...Practically, to create a patch without noise - you have to sacrifice the most valuable effects, like amps etc...or live with the noise.
    (yes, i know there is Noise Gate)
    Also, the device does not like other units chained before/after it - it ruins their sound.
    I don't practice with it anymore, I prefer a $10 miniamp from those on Ebay (not going to advertise a brand here :) ), which i carry in my bag pocket. These also have an AUX input, so you can play rhythms/backtracks from your phone.
    All in all, in 2017 - the device is quite outdated as quality/price.

    • @TheImageDoctor
      @TheImageDoctor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suppose you're right - I'm not a discerning or professional player - the unit sounded great to me as the only "effect box" in my chain for jamming in the bedroom sort of stuff

    Great reviewer! Simple and instruction friendly! Well done Sunshine.... but I currently use Cubase 9.5 Elements and wanted to play my guitar thru this (I only have the G1 On version - No wah wah pedal!) and for any tune to be placed straight onto my workpage on Cubase where I drop all my samples. I assume I need to buy an interface (Behringer Euphoria UMC22 for example?) and do it that way? I fear that is the only way to get the best sound? 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack reduce quality? Thoughts please! Thanks, Colin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    • @TheImageDoctor
      @TheImageDoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The G1X (and G1Xon) uses the same 1/4" jack for line-level (mono) output AND stereo headphone output - and yes, you'll need an interface of some kind to get into your DAW - personally, I'd come out of your G1X with a 1/4" stereo patch cable (i.e. single stereo jack on one end split Left / Right jacks on the other end) to take the native stereo output of the Zoom pedal directly into your DAW audio-interface - hope this helps

  • @johnsilvers3192

    That auxiliary cable is actually very useful especially you if you have an amplifier that is either solid state or is a multi-effects travel amp like I have which has an auxiliary in which would allow me to bypass all of the effects on the amp and just use the amp as a cabinet brilliant honestly. I think that was the final selling point for me. That and the idea that you could easily use this for Live performance with the Looper. Nice video really good explanations. I guess my only question would be is there any way to store the loops externally and what you would suggest for that??? I doubt it could do it internally??? I was thinking that if I ran the pedal into my Tascam recorder and then out from there to an amplifier that I could realistically record the loops? What do you think?

    • @TheImageDoctor
      @TheImageDoctor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a great idea for storing loops away from the unit - though I suppose the S/N ratio of the outbound signal may be more noticeable going into a field recorder or DAW

      Sure you can, and it WILL work for the looper and drum machine. However, since you're using a keyboard, you probably don't want/need any of the effects (???) so I recommend editing patch A1 to be completely clean - no effects, no amp sims, nothing, just a clean signal.

      This is purely personal opinion, but I feel the sound is much "fuller" at LOWER volume levels using (amplified) speakers - such as would be used with an mp3 player, iPod, iPhone etc. - than a low watt guitar amp

      Maybe try a factory reset, then a firmware update if the reset doesn't work.
      By way of seventrumpets.com who found it in the G1Xon manual, here's how to reset the unit:
      To restore the factory settings of Zoom G1Xon multi-FX, you must power on while simultaneously holding the HOME button. When the display appears a message “Are You Sure?”, select YES and press ENTER button to start initialization of the program. The Factory Reset procedure is complete.
      Warning! This procedure will return all of the settings to the values when the GT-PRO was shipped from the factory. Do not use this function unless you are certain that you want to do this. This function also works for the Zoom G1on.

      Sure - all you need is an audio interface of some kind. Technically, I suppose you could plug into the built-in "microphone" port of your computer, but that's probably a mono signal, and probably doesn't sound very good. If you have an aftermarket sound card, it may have L/R RCA input jacks, and that would probably be much better input signal quality. But a dedicated audio interface would be your best bet for recording to a PC.

I'm also a little frustrated that my current guitar pickups seem to color the sound a bit too much IMO. I really wish I could get a pure, neutral signal into this unit so I could really tune in some sounds...

      Your call on that one bro - once you mess around w/ the Zoom unit its really easy to use, but it does take a little getting used to at first. If you want instant "on the fly" changes for live performance, you'll probably want a pedal board w/ individual pedals for each effect in your chain.
