My father flew fighters off the Oriskany and the Bennington during that conflict, and told be of many sorties they were used for regarding close air support for ground troops and hitting numerous Targets on the ground.
The British used it in the Atlantic was used in every island campaign in the pacific theater could out preform anything Japan had too late fight ? I don’t think so
Maybe Warbirds should be display flown, low passes, barrell rolls, etc, not high-stress racing. Keep warbirds warbirds and race the kind of purpose designed planes Howard Hughes built.

I saw that fly at Chino air show and it made a roar that put the Merlins to shame.
At times in the video it almost had a Harley sound to it, just much more of it. I still prefer the sound of the Merlins though.
