    the comment before this seems to be someone who could not understand and follow the threads of the lecturer's arguments. Also this lecture seems to be a very basic treatment of the subject matter - undergrad or post grad level. I enjoyed it.

    Thank you for this lovely video,. it got my curious about my origins so I looked some online and took the My Bronze Age Origins test (Gene Plaza). I found out that I was 14% ancient Hebrew, the people of the Bible! I never knew I was Israelite, but I guess I should have known because I was always curious about the bible stories and always felt part of the people of the bible. Now I have proof. I have also 22% Chongoni Rock art , which fits with my ancestry because I am a quarter black. Just a warning, don’t get the beginner test, it’s cheaper but it doesn’t have the ancient people of the Bible.

      Your discovery is fascinating in regards to you being 14% Hebrew, however keep in mind that a Hebrew is any descendent that came directly from the seed of Abraham. But this does not qualify every Hebrew as an Israelite. An example of this is Abraham son Ishmael who was also a Hebrew but not an Israelite and therefore he did not inherent the promise. Remember Abraham son Jacob later God called him Israel and the promise was given to his 12 sons which are the 12 tribes of Israel. This is not emotional but biblical and historical facts.

      @@anthonyt2745 Exactly. Arabs, Israelites and Canaanties are all genetically the same ... biblical stories aside. That's what DNA testing is showing ever-more.

    Call it whatever you want - a country or an empire. It was nation with political leaders, law, army etc. Actually archaeology proofs the existence of King David and King Solomon. Check it up on the internet. Land of Ancient Israel wasn't always occupied by the empires you have mentioned. It was a sovereign "entity" for a long time.

  • @MarekSchott
    @MarekSchott 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What time frame are you talking about? You are saying that there was no ancient Israel. Who was Saul, David and Salomon then? Shepherds that were made kings by literary-ideological construction? Because I always thought that they were kings of Israel, which would actually imply that there was an ancient country probably called Israel...

    Not only that: but the patriarchs are seen as in some way reflecting a "background" to Israel's origins from the outside. But archaeology shows that what defines Palestine for thousands of years prior to the appearance of "Israel" is absolute continuity WITHIN. Crises and their resolutions over centuries were always internal. There's no room for hypotheses about nomadic invasions to explain changing cultural horizons.

      Maybe the United States should give the land back to the natives and Canada also . How many Western European countries occupy some other people’s land? What about the Saxon invasion of England ? Should France give back the land before the Saxon invasion and don’t forget the ango invasion of a place that we call England. It’s called the divine right of congress unless you want to be fair and give back Ssudi Arabia and TransJorden too .

      I agree. I imagine this NYU course was difficult for students to get through. It only takes a couple of lectures such as this for the student to become confused or disheartened or disinterested in the course. The visuals are poor and the delivery of this prof lacks motivation. Is this the type of lecture NYU students normally receive?
