From what I can tell, the "Academia" aesthetics seem to be 90's grunge with steampunk undertones (farewell bright colours, hello brown). Since I've tended toward that look (even down to the home made ear cuff) since the 90's, when I went to a school which perfectly fit the whole aesthetic, I'm grateful to finally know how to describe my style (light in summer, dark in winter, of course) ... Even if I'm really too old to wear it now!
