      Wrestling match.
      Freddie vs. Andrew Feather.
      Its only fair that Andrew does what Freddie looks best at.
      Also...Andrew cycles at the speed of an Ebike! He rides at moped speeds uphill! What the actual fuck?! Andrew Feather can put down 500watts continuous. He is astoundingly fit. Crazy power he puts out, standing up almost the whole way.

  • @FlatSpinMan

    Watching Andrew Feather deploying his climbing watts, gave me a great business idea - wearable defibrillators for cycling mortals. You somehow hit 620 watts, your heart of course naturally... stops. Quick zippity-zap and you're back on track to half-assing your climb. Money in the bank. Watch out for my kickstarter.

    Would have been very interesting to see Freddys power numbers too!

    • @NetQvist
      @NetQvist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did say he needed a boost to 340% of his power just before the numbers, so we are talking an average of a kilowatt at least it seems.

    • @The1trueDave
      @The1trueDave 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@NetQvist I reckoned about 667 watts based on the following:
      Recalculating Andrew's w/kg based on system weight (about 6.5 w/kg)
      Multiplying that by the winning margin (333/318 seconds) giving 6.7 for Freddie + bike
      Factoring Freddie's system weight back in (98kg).
      If you then divide that by 4.4 it suggests that Freddie averaged 150w and the bike added 340% of that or about 510w. This is based on the assumption that their speeds were purely proportional to w/kg; in practice Freddie is probably less aerodynamic and probably moves less efficiently too. So he could have been putting out nearer 200w I suppose.
      I've always thought power meter pedals would be a good addition to an ebike, to truly tell you how much work you are contributing!

    • @The1trueDave
      @The1trueDave 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@princeg973 They're limited to 250w continuously-rated but they can deliver about 500w peak or maybe even a little more. This is all perfectly legal, it's just the way they're classified - and it's why a novice riding an ebike can kick your ass most of the time :-)

    Great video. Andrew Feather is mind blowing! I commute to work from a small village in South Devon. I start with a climb Strave calls 7% average but the OS Map calls in at 16% minimum at peak. Not the best start on a cold morning at 0700. I joined Strava and must have hit some weird setting because as I passed the Church at the bottom of the climb it told me my virtual training partner had finished! I realised it must be referring to a segment and assumed it was a short one-part of the climb only. My time was given to me at the top of the hill however. I got to work and checked out my Garmin and Strava to see what was going on and it transpires I had turned on live Strava segments for that climb. Andrew Feather appeared to have been through our village at some point, crushed the KOM by a huge margin and appeared as my training partner. I looked at the gaps between us and channelling my inner Homer Simpson turned that live segment off

    GCN really should get a beginner and do a series where they take them from zero to hero. Get a beginner and take them to an intermediate racer/rider.

    Freddy seems more like a proper GCN presenter now instead of a Beginner. You guys need to hire him to do “beginner” challenges.

    Besides being restricted to 25 kph aren’t the European ebikes also restricted to 250 w motors? That would mean that Freddie is “only” 250 w behind his hero… Keep up the good work, Freddie!

    I'm glad that there's E-bikes in the States here that can reach 45 kph. Getting some crazy speeds on paved bicycle trails is an absolute joy.
    As for Freddy, it's almost time he does some hour long and/or all day challenges, isn't it? In any case, he's a huge inspiration to me.

    This video is so true. If you don't believe me try to overtake an ebike while you are on a normal bike.
    I was lucky enough to have that experience today and I still remember the amount of effort I had to put on the petals to overtake for a short amount of time an ebike.
    The ebike was ridden by a roughly 50 year old lady while what it looked like she was carrying groceries on the back of her ebike.
    And I am a 38 year old man and I was on my 26 inch mountain bike.
    On a rather mild uphill she was doing 20 km per hour without breaking a sweat and my speedometer on my bike was saying 23 km per hour while I was overtaking then while I tried to take a breath she overtook me while maintaining the same speed of roughly 20 km easily!
    It was a mindblowing experience to say the least!

    I'd love to see a 100 mile race - one rider with an eBike and one with a high end racing bike. eBike would have a big advantage until the battery died, then a disadvantage due to the weight. I know some have huge long range batteries but many will die after 50-60 miles. Could be interesting.

    Freddy has lost fat it looks like. Besides, I too have a Grail:On. It is really great to ride. Though it has some limits and you get the best results, if you are constant in your pedalling up a hill. On the flats, I usually go above 25 km/h, so the engine is cutting off. Anyone claiming you can not get a good workout on an e-bike, is misguided. You just have to turn off the engine help when doing HITT. Then you will have to use plenty of power to keep riding. I find the e-bike good for us larger sprint riders, who have some difficulties to hang on, when going up hills - or have some sort of handicap which limits your leg strength - like I have due to a previous spinal injury. This way I can keep up with my cycling friends and still get a good workout.

    Fair match? Nah. Fun to watch, absolutely. In all of these e-bike challenges I've been rooting for the road bikes. Just a prejudice I guess. But so much fun to watch. Though little as much fun as watching Manon in the recumbent!

  • @umfilmmaker8253

    The speed limiter doesn’t mean you can only go to 25, it means that’s when the motor cuts off and if you want to go faster, it’s all human power after that.

    Using an online calculator: 85Nm torque at 70rpm = 620 Watts. Even at a cadence of 50 rpm that will be 450 Watts. Almost double the legal limit.
