I think Autodesk's constant model of manipulating professional knowledge and financially exploiting professionals will die out. It has no future. It costs zillions of dollars to subscribe to the software and equal wealth to train someone. Now you say there will be something entirely new written by AD for the BIM domain. Everyone will rebel or stick to something more honest and reliable. This is the first problem. Mind you there are a lot of companies that still use Autocad!! AD announced it dead 10 years ago. The second problem is that a building database model such as IFC is still not a standard in comparison to HTML and CSS on the WEB. Likewise, I believe the API model and cloud-based app is definitely not realistic software model in the near future, 10 years at least. Sketchup started it, Adobe started it and it did not work. As far as your criticism of the actual tool and software engineering of Revit I agree with your comments 100%

One of the most profound and revealing glimpses into the future of AEC. Following Martyn's work with great interest - this needs to reach as many AEC professionals before they have no ground to pivot their skillsets and understanding of the industry upon. I commend you for your efforts, and am hoping to get more active in this space once I've arranged a few pieces on the 4D chessboard that is my free time.
I see the need to raise awareness of the future state of the industry as an obligation of all BIM professionals. The narrative needs to shift in the BIM community from showing cool Revit tips and tricks, we should actively challenge this as old news - this is not a popular opinion I believe, but I have to put it out there. For many firms it is likely too late to pivot I believe, especially those literally just getting into BIM as a technology let alone a process/business function.
Great episode Nicolas, really enjoying the line-up and sessions thus far!

Very insightful. The key takeaway for me is to make sure the data you create is stored in an open, documented and accessible schema. Currently IFC is the best we got in this space but I hope it will evolve.

So the hideus trend of owning nothing continues. Its a shame we still don't understand or value owning the fruits of our labor and instead have chosen to live in a society where companies dictate what we can or cannot do with our creations.

Definitely worth a listen, though disappointed to hear Speckle mis-sold as geometry exchange rather than data/information.

Are they talking about Revit going to a true database system similar to E3D and S3D?
