      As far as Robles and BWP, it’s sad. It’s the end of an era for a core that won three Supporters shields. The RedBull teams of the mid-late 2010s should be seen as one of the best teams in MLS, despite never winning MLS Cup.
      But I see why. They say it’s better to get rid of someone a year too early vs too late. Not sure BWP would ever get back to 20+ goal seasons, and I love Robles but I don’t think he had his best season last year. Eventually you’ve got to give Meara a shot.

    As a Red Bulls fan going back to the MetroStars' inaugural season in '96, I suspect that this situation is going to drag on indefinitely. The MetroStars were supposed to get their own stadium promptly, but wound up playing in Giants Stadium - which was far too big for them - until 2010. D.C. United had to wait until 2018 to get their own stadium, and the New England Revolution are _still_ waiting for theirs, with nary any relief in sight. Plus as you accurately point out, NYC is both extremely crowded and extremely expensive.

      Yup,and sadly,any place where they could build has said no. They've tried Queens (which would have been THE best place to build, considering the soccer audience in NYC ),next to CitiField,but the Mets said no. Then there was upgrading Wien Stadium in Manhattan,but civic leaders protested. After that, there was another project discussed in the South Bronx that has since fallen silent,and the most recent rumor was a stadium near Belmont Park,where the Islanders' new arena is being built. As someone who is a Yankee fan in baseball,this would be considered sacrilege,but I wouldn't mind if they built on the site of the old Yankee Stadium (but baseball fans would say no)

      Now, playing in oversized football stadiums for a longer period of time, like 5-10 years, isn’t as bad as a baseball stadium. And certain teams, such as the Revs, are owned by guys with football teams (in their case, Robert Kraft) and aren’t going to spend more money building another stadium. But what’s going on with NYCFC is insane. Playing in Yankee Stadium was a bad idea from the start, but it’s what they have to do. If only the Jets had built the West Side Stadium back in ‘08...

      It was supposed to be "temporary",but everywhere they've tried to build has said no. It's why Red Bull bought the MetroStars outright. And yet, they are going after Nashville before match one saying "oh, the new mayor had a change of heart? Maybe no mls for you." And trying to strong arm the city. He should be doing the same for NYCFC. And I watched a friendly between USA and Guatemala on TV when they played at Busch Stadium; baseball fields in general should not be used for football pitches.

  • @adub4ever

    NYCFC came in as a super club, but in the years since, their glow has dulled each successive season to the point where they’re actually an eyesore... I simply can’t watch NYC games on TV anymore no matter the stars on the field. It’s just not real football. Apparently there is hope City Football Group can acquire the land across the street from New Yankee Stadium and squeeze a SSS into a parking lot and old utility building. It would be massive for the league once they get this done. I believe it will eventually happen, but construction in NYC is a nightmare. Best case scenario they spend 3-4 more seasons at Yankee Stadium. 🤮

Etc etc. This talk that its completely a NFL stadium and ATL UTD just moved in is completely false. Arthur had them playing in the stadium before the stadium was even a reality. King Wes11 I am well aware that the Mercedes-Benz Stadium was also built with Atlanta United in mind, but that doesn’t change the fact thats it’s not specifically made for football. The stadium is beautiful and no one can take that away, but like I said, it’s not only football. We still have some minor inconveniences such as not being able to play in our home stadium during the opening games of the CCL.

      @westheking12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@agustinsoto6040 but most of the big important games like the final and certain rounds we do play in the Benz. For me it's not like we are getting a soccer specific stadium in Atl where there is really no room at all for one unless we somehow tear down GA State stadium or do a complete rebuild of Bobby Dod with partnership of GA Tech. So the fact we have one of the best stadiums in the US and probably North America is fine by me. And its indoors! Unlike what Inter Miami's 2 stadiums will be in very hot climates. Plus the fact it was made with soccer in mind just makes it even more perfect. Unless we get a deal struck to have the first soccer specific stadium to be indoor and outdoor in America. I dont see why its a big deal for some ppl.

    Honestly, I think it's an absolute embarrassment to the MLS and the sport in general, to have a team playing in a baseball stadium. It's fine as a temporary solution for the first year or two, but we're less than a month out from season six. I think it was a mistake for the MLS to accept an expansion bid from a team that didn't have a plan for it's own stadium. I wouldn't be bothered by this if this was a USL Championship, League One, or NISA team, but this is one of the biggest markets in our top league

    As a San Jose Earthquake supporter I can say that having a soccer/ football specific stadium makes a huge difference plus there's more pride for your team and City, it makes it complete because you have a home of your own, not being second or third fiddle to baseball and football teams stadiums and just to play in a great pitch and grass. New York with such a huge market would definitely benefit. Also New England and a few others deserve it too. Also MLS is or has gotten too big to continue with expansion teams and with no soccer specific stadiums waters down the league and you won't get great young potential players from Europe or South America to come over and play, unless they will start to implement Relegation.

    • @dannytradio
      @dannytradio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting out of Seat Geek Stadium had to be priority number 1. The Fire had 0 impact in the city, and having a stadium far beyond downtown definitely didn’t help.
      But, so far this offseason they’ve butchered the rebrand, and still have a long way to go to field a competitive roster. Doesn’t matter where they play, if they continue to keep losing, fans won’t be showing up. I think it’s a good temporary location. But if they stay there past 2-3 seasons, then it won’t be any better than Seat Geek Stadium

    New York City FC needs to build their own Soccer stadium and they need to do it in the city, and if they can do that, not only will the value of the team sky rocket but if they do rebrand as the Cosmos in their new stadium, then the league itself is going to Sky rocket in value. but unfortunately the rebranding part probably won’t happen, but I hope they do get their stadium in one of the Burroughs and hopefully turn into the MSG of MLS as well.

      It's an 82,000-seat venue. Neither NYCFC nor the Red Bulls could fill it on a regular basis. As a matter of fact,the Red Bulls started off in the old Giants Stadium,which seated just under 77,000, and had to tarp off the top 2 sections.

    NYCFC fan here. I agree with the the idea that ideally the club needs a legitimate soccer pitch of their own but the expectation for them to be able to have one legitimately in NYC is absurd at this point when it comes to popularity of the MLS in America at this point. It's reasonable to be playing in Harrison NJ like the Red Bulls. But at the same time it shouldn't be held against the club for not having their own stadium in NYC at the moment

    The location for new stadiums are terrible. Soulless parking lot dead zones. Being next to Arthur Ashe Stadium is also a good look on a global scale.

    The Flushing Meadows (not Flushing Airport) proposal was not acceptable because the site was next a superfund site as well as an indoor swimming pool/skating rink that was built to replace two facilities from the 1939 World’s Fair. It also would have caused the removal of several soccer fields used by rec leagues. Given the controversy surrounding the expansion of the BJK Tennis Center in the 1990s, giving up even more parkland to a commercial sporting enterprise was not feasible.

    I'm going to be completely honest, as an American and a Yankee fan I never really paid attention to MLS until NYCFC came into existence. I believe playing in Yankee Stadium helped NYCFC significantly grow their fanbase, allowing for it to be the "Yankees of MLS". New York is, as far as I know, the only major media market where baseball is the most watched sport, so tying the soccer team so closely to the baseball team helped them more than any individual-tenant stadium could have.
    I have only gone to one NYCFC and I will admit it's because they are owned by the Yankees and play in Yankee Stadium, a place I frequent during the baseball season. It's a sub-optimal situation, I'm aware, but this was the best way to get fans into the seats, at least initially.

    One of the biggest annoyances of using public funding is the fact that the team is OWNED the the UAE Royal Family. They have the money, in fact they have more money than anyone. The funny thing is that their new approved stadium is in Queens which was the best location and they're paying for it 100% themselves with no public funding. It's almost as if using your oil money was the solution the entire time.

    And here we are almost 2 seasons on, and nothing has changed. And the bad part of all this is: It was all eminently foreseeable. Anyone who watched the Metrostars/RB fight for a stadium over a decade to no avail knew the score. Anyone who has seen this same thing play out in cities around the world *knows* how hard it is to get City councils to give up prime downtown real estate for a stadium in any sport. Let alone soccer. And the more dense the city, the harder it is. This was a Garber vanity project. And ok, given everything he's done for the league, he gets a pass on it. But NYCFC, by the rules he laid out, never had any business being created.

    Well, since grass is not mandatory in professional football(soccer) in the US, I guess an American Football stadium would be more suitable for NYCFC, rather than an a baseball stadium. In fact, some MLS teams already do it: VAN Whitecaps or Seattle Sunders for example. They will probably reduce costa as Yankees own part of the team but from a fan perspective, it doesn't look right

    I think they should at least for now share Red Bull Arena, at least it's a SSS... But they should probably build their stadium in Staten Island or New Rochelle/Mount Vernon/Yonkers. Yea I know Staten Island isn't the best option but at the end of the day, it's part of New York City and there's definitely land there unlike in Manhattan. And New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, and Yonkers is right outside of the Bronx. It's not that far. They've tried and failed too many time in the Bronx and Queens. And right now beggars can't be choosers. I agree with you 100%. Playing in Yankee Stadium is hurting their attendance and it's just bad for the league.

    Sure, they should have their own stadium, but where else can they go without just co-oping with NYRB? I don't even get why it's embarrassing to play at a baseball stadium...its Yankee Stadium! They're never going to get support from locals that aren't fans anyway, because of how old the city is they would be better off updating infrastructure and building affordable housing than building a new stadium. Unless they could invest in making Columbia University's stadium in Manhattan up to MLS standards (seems like the best option to me since the ground already exists), the fans should be thankful that they at least play in an iconic stadium, even though it wasn't built for them.
