That’s all well and good! But I’d sue the crap out of them on top of that. Class actions only go so far and are semi-useless. Get them by the balls. Everyone in that building should sue one by one. It can actually be argued for textbook criminal negligence too. I hope these residents are 😊safe….AND that they get what they’re deserved. Ugh how awful. Get ‘em.
For some reason, I thought it was 1911. Regardless, this is the same bldg that had reports of bricks falling onto the street quite a while ago. The city is also negligent, because they didn't follow up on the reports and accepted permits as enough.
This lady is very well composed and articulate. Given she has just been displaced from her home and lost all her possessions she is very controlled and self aware. I hope all the residents are being looked after. The building should not have been allowed to house human beings due to the long term decay.
There's no housing for people anymore & the housing we do have are falling apart & in really bad shape !!! It's all over the country! This is sad & should have never happened! Lives lost & all these people are going to be now Homeless
Wow pretty wild! They need to do some building inspections down in those apartments in those areas ASAP after this tragedy, no one needs another one of these happening again. If complaints are made the action should be taken seriously, not blown off. I hope they can find everyone. Prayers to those affected
Also Iowa is doing a grant for individual assistance programs for those affected by this and can receive up to $5000, to replace items and help for temporary housing.
When Uvalde happened we were promised Iowa 1st responder’s won’t stand and wacth like they did in Uvade. When needed our 1st responders did nothing just like Uvade And just like Uvade the police arrested any one who complained about them watching and doing nothing
No one died. It is being blown out of proportion. Tragedy yes but it could have been much worse. There are still part of the story that do not make sense/line up. Scott County is extremely corrupt.
My God! If gas had been leaking before the collapse, it might have incapacitated some people so they were too sedated to even try to get out! I think the powers that be who failed to properly maintain this building should be criminally charged.
Something is wrong with the people like take care of your building and people. If there is water in the wrong place and it smells should probably do something about that. That’s so sad 😢

The building is over 110 yo. Your question should be what we're the repairers doing to cause the collapse and did they support it. If bricks and stuff are falling, then it's the weather that's the culprit. How would I know? I work for a masonry restoration company, and we see it every day. Atm, we are repairing a chimney that was built in 1987. Freezing water cause cracks to expand, and I guarantee that was a major factor in the collapse. Water rust iron beams that weaken over time. I've seen angle irons completely rusted through, and the only thing holding up the structure above was brick and mortar. Tearing it down is sometimes sketchy . Always start at the top when repairing brick ,block, and motar. One brick at a time and always support structure if it's really bad.
Honestly, 50 years from now "awoken" will probably be an officially recognised word. Many words in English started of like that. In fact, many English words are not even 40 years old. So, let it go, you can't win against this. 😅

I agree with the other commenter. People lose their cleaning deposit, plus have to come up with the new place's cleaning deposit, first and last month's rent, plus cost of moving boxes, moving truck, and movers.

Well said, this is a problem in too many places. They charge so much and then treat tenants (usually poor) poorly.
Why does someone on that crew fix that mic so we can hear that reporter CLEARLY ?
The bldg. was formerly a luxury hotel. And was turned into an apt. complex. The bldg. was built in 1907. It was formerly called the Davenport Hotel.
