Larry Charles (Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Borat) on TYSO - #42

  • What a treat to celebrate Hanukkah with COMEDY LEGEND, Larry Charles. Writer, Director and Producer, you know his work on Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiam, almost all of the Sacha Baron Cohen movies and of course, as a Take Your Shoes Off alum.
Per the holiday spirit, Rick gives Larry a few gifts. One inspires a story about how he came up with the idea to have Jerry Stiller play George's dad on Seinfeld. One, they smoke. Any guesses on the other two? (HINT: you can get one of them here www.rickglassm...)
Once high, Larry talks about what makes the greats, like Jerry Seinfeld, so great at stand-up and gives Rick a little advice. Larry say the holidays are nostalgic, and how he tries to avoid nostalgia. And, you can't have Larry over TWICE without pitching him a project. So Rick does just that! Stay tuned until the end to see if Larry wants in!
Thank you Goblins for joining me on this wild ride of #8NightsOfTYSO. It has been a LOT of work, and we're almost done. Join Rick as he hosts his first guest of TYSO, and last guest of 2019... Jon DeWalt!!
Produced by: Rick Glassman & George Krikes
    Edited by: George Krikes
Sound & Mixed by: George Krikes
Theme Song: Casey Abrams on vocals and bass, Jacob Scesney on sax, and Rick Glassman on keys
Additional Editing & Art: Pepe Llamas ( / pepelokz )

It’s fantastic to see Rick engaging with guests who likely expect an ordinary podcast experience but leave with something unforgettable. The way guests enjoy and seamlessly dive into his questions and jokes is remarkable. I’ve been enjoying one or two episodes daily, and it’s fascinating to compare Rick’s growth over the past four years. Each episode truly feels like a masterpiece.

19:04 the DVD box set uses the original John Randolph version of "The Handicap Spot." I remember because it was shocking the first time I watched the DVD. But side note, when looking up the episode name, I realized Jerry Stiller is only in season 5 onwards. He has such a vivid impact on the texture of Seinfeld that it's weird to realize how late he's added to the cast.

Science preceeded the 3 monotheistic religions. That is, in pre-Socratic times land surveying was already used mathematically to demarcate land ownership after floods washed out markers.
Aristotle represents not only the culmination of Greek philosophical thought, but he was known as a scientist , biologist and physician as well.
Scientific research and principles were necessarily in use to construct Egyptian pyramids, sarcophagi and tombs.

Pitch: Man on the street one cam follow, where you go around different cities engaging the public in different public spaces. Sidewalks coffee shops, BB&B, start with cities you know branch out as you tour. The content as you were stating about BB&B and your stand up act is the playing with energies. Taking your stand-up act on cam to single individuals in the form of awkward random human interaction but ultimately to a much broader audience. Ideally, having your podcast in a public place, interview someone in public and then walk around engaging the public. Alternatively, Segmenting out the different segments. With that format there's also the possibility of recruiting young improve types to pretend to be whatever character for this episode adding a punkt element and allowing for steering without need to do it yourself. Ultimately, you take the basic narrative of the late night talk show, except you ditch the studio, and the class and the budget. And you do more or less segments but its all in a Starbucks in Tuscon this week or wherever you can get approval. Just taking your idea and flushing it out but it would be fun to watch probably not too hard to make, one cam guy/ editor. More or less two man operation you and that guy. Then the guests and maybe a stringer, finding locations and getting people to sign the authorizations. Ostensibly major hangups are lighting and sound in public places, but most of that can be fixed by proper mic setup and attaching lighting to the cameras. Just a thought.
