Leon TH-cam videos always have complaints no matter how true, honest or informative it is. Your videos are saving the world and people in a small way, so complaints do not matter or count. I’ll watch your videos a dozen times with every add that shows for the kids scholarship fund.
I Love His ideas I built plenty of five gallons the buckets I got it free from my brothers work They throw away thousands of them I showed them How to utilized it this way now my siblings nephews nieces are all doing it save the earth we also collect plastic Water bottles Thank you Leon for your ingenius ideas God Bless keep sharing
He is going to get his YT 100,000 sub plaque! At this time he has 101,000 subs! He did it and he is still the best. He is the reason I am now a gardener :) Such a good man.
I don't understand the issue with ads....SMH. He spent his valuable time and resources making these videos and he's not trying to sell anything. The least we can all do is support this awesome person.

LEO... YOUR growing tips, tricks, information is exceptional... and especially for homeowners with small yards... our senior club has benefited so much from your valuable information
Why would someone complain about ads. They can skip them. I’m glad to watch to generate funds for the scholarships. 💕 I’m in Florida and I’m starting seeds now.
I was having some trouble with wicking. Figured it was the soil/compost I used...but needed to make do with it. I remembered a trick my grandma used to do with her house plants. She would take some string and poke it through one of the drain holes then work it into the pot almost to the top. The end of the string would sit in a saucer of water and wick the moisture up into the soil. So. I took some cotton clothesline and worked the end of it into the bottom of my tub then cut the line level with the soil. Sure enough, it started wicking just fine. I've since been able to use better compost, and haven't had wicking problems, but we were able to make the other work while we needed it to.
Granny Hatchet That’s what my grandma taught me too! Eventually the string rots. But by that time the roots have followed the string down to the water so it still works.
Thank you for doing the scholarship fund. So if it requires ads then so be it. We need the younger generation to learn this to raise food to learn where our food comes from. Keep on making videos love watching them
I just found you tonight and now I'm binge watching your videos. I love them. I always skip ads. But since what you just said I will let all of the ones on your channel run. Bless you.
For those who don’t have compost it’s Best to use strictly bagged “potting MIX” not soil. Or mix your own. Larry Hall on you tube has a recipe it’s mostly peat moss with some additives I think the square foot garden soil recipe might work as well.
I like that your update video now says, don't need to use the cloth barrier. Ever since your first video about this where you used some kind of barrier, and then other videos from others where they didn't use a barrier, people have been wondering, which way is better? Now that you also say this, it's good to know you have very likely tried both methods and decided that this design without the barrier, is doing good!
I always skip ads, but since yours will benefit a scholarship fund, I don’t mind letting them play through now. It’s the least I can do. You taught me so much and am very grateful.
Thank you for showing this Mr Leon I will admit I am one that has to be shown step by step how to do things so I appreciate your patience in teaching and explaining thank you
I’m in SWFL and am very grateful for a way to grow in the ‘only season we supposedly unable to; by being able to move plants around to the north side, (In and out of direct sun), into my garage for a heat break if needed and also to prevent overwatering. Plants started 3 weeks ago are growing at an incredible rate. I start them off in plastic egg cartons, to solo cups, and then the healthiest into 5 gallon buckets. I use 2 pieces of drain pipe (the kind with with small holes all around), cut 2 about 7-8” lay them side by side, insert a piece of PVC pipe, and place an aerating ground cover inside before covering with soil and nutrients, (10-10-10) and epsom salt. Thank you Leon, be blessed my friend.
Thank you for your patience with the new viewers. I know you have covered a lot of this material before and still have to explain again and again and again . Thank you sir for your love for others.
Thanks Leon! The fertilizer explanation helped! Here on the plains of Texas we don’t get enough rain so I don’t think if pots are outside it is necessary for the plastic on top? Course that would stop weeds. Things dry out here so fast. I put wood chips mulch on the top of mine. Course I don’t have the big buckets yet just 5 gallon buckets, but let me say I LOVE this method!!!!
Walmart has 17 gl tubs. If you don't care about colors 3 tub pkg red white and blue and 2 pkg of colors. I have them delivered to the house lol. free with 35$ orders.
Leon. Don’t worry about the nay sayers, what your doing is invaluable. I’ve learned so much already and I just found u 5 days ago. Thank you and keep on keeping on... and oh yea, I’m all about smart pots. I swear they so much better. I’d love to see them partner with you on a design. I’d love that. I’d b ur #1 customer. Thank you again
Leon, you could show people how to convert their decorative pots. Just plug the hole in the bottom with silicone or putty. If growing vegetables, make sure it is kitchen grade or food safe. Boom. This is great. You are doing a good deed. This is definitely the purpose God intended for you. ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you sir for sharing your wisdom and passion. My kids and I came to your farm to buy seeds, plants, fertilizers and soil. Unfortunately we missed seeing you. Praying you're doing much better after your wreck. And we hope to see you next time.
That is awesome your doing the Scholarship to get kids educated for the future. Amen Leon. That is so neat. Using the plastic recycle is a great job. I remember my Aunt would do a wicking with a old rug from a coffee can sitting outside her pot filled with water and the other end in the soil in the pot . At her cabin up north. It was enough to water her flower pots which she wasn’t there . Great video.
Absolutely wonderful information!!!! Thank you so much for teaching gardening.....you are a wealth of knowledge and experience that money just can’t buy.
Mr. Leon you’re a gem and I just love watching you! I’m in the process of starting to put my tubs together. I can’t wait for my yummy veggies to grow. Thank you so much for giving of your time and knowledge to help feed America! 🇺🇸
I appreciate this channel. I really would like Leon to connect with some of the engineering channels on TH-cam and get a few patents so he can release a complete product on a large scale.
Thank you Leon you are so awesome, I don't like ads but in this case what a fantastic reason to have them! Your scholarship program is creating urban and backyard farmers, increasing knowledge about food security is important.
My corn now has ears on it. I think we are going to make some corn this year. It will be our first time for corn in our garden. I know we started pretty late because that was when I found your site on the internet, but it works! We are so excited. If we run out of warm weather before the corn makes, well we will start again next year. Thanks Leon for making this possible. Most people in my area have no garden at all because of all the rain we had in the spring.
Wow what an awesome man! Sir, God has blessed you abundantly with wisdom and compassion. I came here from watching another TH-camr who mentioned wicking containers and said he got the idea from you. I subscribed because I believe I can learn a lot from you...and because you are God fearing and so am I.
Thank you so much for explaining about the fertilizer I am always so confused as to which plant needs what. I love your channel and really appreciate you sharing all you knowledge.
At 6:07 you say you don't use any weed cloth barrier like you showed in your previous videos. Wasn't the weed cloth a good idea? It seems it would prohibit the different size organic materials in the soil from eventually plugging up the little holes you put in the milk jugs, or is that not a problem, and the jugs don't get plugged up over time?
Those who make large IBC tote wicking beds follow the same principles, but use the white, more flexible row cover (less expensive) as a barrier to keep the growing medium from clogging the holes in their water reservoir pipes or jugs. Because it is thinner & more flexible, you can push it down deep into the space between pipes/bottles so that when you dump in your gowing medium it can reach down deeper to wick up. Just don't let the white row cover fabric block the weep hole outlet. A friend used a bit of hot glue to tack the cover to the sides above the weep outlet hole.
I just found this channel and thank you for what you do. I’m shocked at people who come on this channel and complain about ads, you do so much for the community and for everyone on TH-cam. Some people are just plain unhappy to complain about making their life easier and can care less about others. Keep doing you, you are amazing.
You've given me hope, Leon. My first attempt at gardening veggies did not go well at all.... and to see a process pretty much self sustaining gives me confidence to try again. Thank you, Leon.
Thank you for helping these students, I don't skip the ad in your channel. Also thanks for replying back to my question by sending the instructions via text msg

These are great videos!! Thank you so much for doing them. I have been looking for options for my very small city townhouse "yard" space. This seems like a great option!! I've read that we shouldn't drink water from water bottles we've left in our car because the plastic will leech into the water. Is leeching a concern with this method of growing? Will the plastic leech into the water then be passed on to the plants? So much confusing info out there😳
I was lucky to find 100 year old saw those pal my family back in the 1800s had a Sawmill that’s what you need to find an old sawmill I was lucky to have a oak sawdust pile there was about 25 to 30 feet deep covering over 3 acres
So with using 1 gal milk jugs, is the side hole on the container at 5” or 6” from the bottom? The outside hole on the video looks pretty low. On all the other videos he tells everyone to drill the hole 1” down from the top of what ever you use inside. Maybe he already said something about it, but I don’t recall hearing him mentioning it about milk jugs. Thanks in advance for any help.
Update, I went through again on Leon’s explanation on building the wicking tub on episode 20A and he did mention to drill the hole at 5” with using the milk jugs. Hope this helps out with newbies like my self.
How do you keep squirrels and other critters out? I love your videos and will be trying a wicking garden tub outside of Tampa fl. I have a lot of squirrels and they have already dug up and ate a few of my bulbs.
I love your video's. Thank you! I was just wondering if using plastic milk containers and plastic bottles don't give issues with microplastics in the water (and in the plants). That's just a question....and I hope someone can help me with an answer...
Might be a funny question ⁉️ but how do you know how much water you're putting in.. ??? About how much water will it take to start running out the hole in the container.
I’m a little bit late to the game but the taproot will go all the way down and find a water source. People that are complaining that their soil is too dry don’t realize that the taproot will find the water. It’s not absolutely necessary to have the entire route Submerged and or at least wet. It’s a way to do hydroponics. I’ve done it several times.
The “DISLIKES” are Automatically set upon Every channel on TH-cam. No real people actually watched the video - until the end - and then took the time to “dislike.” Its the TH-cam politics. It’s wrong but dislikes are not really indicative of anyone’s real, actual opinion. NO ONE gets a perfect score of no dislikes. Even if it’s true! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and bless you! From Canada

Mr. Leon, you are a wealth of information on how to do things right. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much for explaining about the fertilizer I am always so confused as to which plant needs what. I love your channel and really appreciate you sharing all you knowledge.
Thanks for all your hard work. It looks like we all will need to be able to grow our own food from now on.
wow! i just found your channel! i am going to try this wicking tub. thank you for haveing this video!

Thank you so much! You're such an incredible person!
Great tips Mr Leon !! Just came across your channel love it..
Thank You so much for these videos. I’m going to make one of these this weekend. I love how you showed how to add the pvc pipe. I can’t wait to grow my own spinach and lettuce. Thank You again 😃
Love the channel. Thank you for doing the scholarships for those young student. Thank you for teaching us.
Love your golden heart sir Leon
Love the videos, Leon. I'm up in Guthrie and can't find any of those empty mineral tubs. I've been using those blue ones from Lowe's but the rim starts cracking after one year in the sun.
I've only watched a couple of videos and they are great. Fertilizer ideas are great, I really need help in that area. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for another informative video Leon. I just picked up on the correct amount of fertilizer when watering. Nothing did burn Leon and I had a good harvest, will be picking the last tomatoes this week as frost is coming maybe this week. Glad I called you Leon. Bill in NH.
Thankyou for your presentation Mr Leon , would this red tub & system be deep enough for growing indeterminate tomatoes 🍅 ?
Thank you for this explanation. Am growing tobacco so I assume I need super high nitrogen fertilizer
Just want to say I appreciate your sharing with us. Love the content. Thank you and stay well.
Thank you for doing this again!
I so love Leon. You're soooooooo knowledgeable! I wished you were near!
PS Love your show and thank you so much..
Hello from Scotland
Love learning from you!!
So much confusing info out there😳
I found 100 year old sawdust pile at the sawmill it works great for a wick poting
100 yr old sawdust doesnt exist, heck I would say 5 yr old saw dust doenst exist. Saw dust breaks down very fast.

I'm in Phoenix.. we don't have a lot of rain, but I'm wondering if a garden fabric over top of dirt would work as a mulch to help keep the moisture?
I live in canada and I have started my seedlings inside first. I am using rubbermaid bins for my wicking bed.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I. Sure this is a stupid question but what stops the soil from clogging up the milk bottle holes
Hi Leon, can you put water before the dirt? Thanks for education videos.
I am fine with advertisement. you're worth it !!
I’m a little bit late to the game but the taproot will go all the way down and find a water source. People that are complaining that their soil is too dry don’t realize that the taproot will find the water. It’s not absolutely necessary to have the entire route Submerged and or at least wet. Leon would the plastic over the barrel also help keep the soil wet.....I live in NE NM so its very dry and hot here....

The “DISLIKES” are Automatically set upon Every channel on TH-cam.
